I'll stay with you for all of time.
I'll go wherever you will go,
if I could make you mine.
The music softly played through the room as Cadence laid next to Pete both of them staring off into space. The radio only playing as background music to throw off the silence that had been running rampant since they had gotten back to his house more than three hours ago.
"What are you thinking about?" Cadence's asked as she rolled over onto her side and looked at Pete. She had been trying all different ways to get his attention, but she seemed to be failing terribly.
"You." He answered as he remained on his back, his eyes glued to the ceiling. In his mind it killed him to look at her. He just wanted to stick her in his pocket and keep her safe forever.
"Well, that's corny." She laughed a little bit as she draped her arm around his waist. "I'm right here anyway." She told him. It was beginning to bother her that he wouldn't look at her.
"Cad, why didn't you tell me everything?" He turned on his side and looked at her. "And, don't lie because Patrick told me everything about your Uncle and the cops and the rape-" The words stung leaving his mouth, but she had cut him off before he even got to finish.
"He had no right to tell you any of that." She sat up as she moved away from him. This was all too good to be true. She was in what she considered the perfect relationship and because Patrick was an asshole he had to go and ruin it for her.
"Baby, no, stop." Pete grabbed her arm gently. He knew the bruises were there so he wanted to be careful, but he couldn't let her push him away.
"Don't. Don't baby me." She spat at him and crossed her arms. "I know what this means so why don't you just spit it out already."
"No, don't be stupid, you don't now what this means. This doesn't mean anything. I care about you, so, that just means that something needs to change. We can't let him do this to you." Pete pulled her closer as he ran his hand down her face.
"There's nothing that can be done, Pete. I'm stuck." She whispered as she looked away from him. This was actually harder than it had been to tell Patrick.
"You're never stuck, I'm going to make sure of it. You don't have to stay there, you don't have let him do this to you, Cadence. Please let me help you?" He was almost begging her and if it came down to it, he would beg her. He didn't want anything to happen to her just when he was getting to know and really care for her.
"Where am I going to stay Pete?" She questioned, she wasn't really looking for an answer, she was being somewhat sarcastic. She had no other options and she was wondering where he would just come up with one out of nowhere.
"I don't know exactly where you can stay, but I know you will not stay there and I'll make sure that everything works out okay. There has to be away around this."
"Promise?" Cadence looked at him as she stopped resisting his touch and finally began to melt into his arms. She was just so tired of fighting everyone and everything. She had to give in to something.
"I promise. I promise on everything that I have and everything I love that I will not let him hurt you anymore. And, this does not change anything, you understand?" He raised her head to look at him.
"Okay, Pete. I'm going to trust you." She whispered as she moved closer to him as she pressed her lips against his. "Don't make me sorry." She moved back to the bed as she wrapped her arms around him.
"You won't be sorry, angel. Just stay strong." He whispered as he crawled into her arms and got comfortable. The music in the background was just sort of dulled out now. It was just the perfect touch to make the whole scene one of the sweetest, like it was something out of a movie.
"Strong's my middle name."
"Really? That's a pretty sexy middle name." He laughed.
"Oh, so then it fits perfectly." She laughed.
"No, really, what is your middle name?" He asked as he looked up at her.
"Rose." She answered him as she shrugged her shoulders. "My mom always said it flowed very nicely."
"Your mom?" He questioned. He hadn't ever thought about her having actual parents. It never seemed to cross his mind.
"Yeah, she was a good woman." She smiled as she looked up at the ceiling. "The say the good ones always die young. She died when I was six." She frowned.
"Is your uncle your mother's brother?" He questioned. He didn't know how into this she wanted to get, but he was curious.
"My father's brother." She answered. "Both of them were assholes. My father pretty much was the biggest heroin addict in Chicago, or whatever." She shrugged her shoulders. "When my mom died I had no where to go but to my Uncle..." Her voice began to crack. "I don't want to talk about this." She told him as she turned on her side and away from him.
"Stop hiding from me, it's fine. We don't have to talk about this." He whispered as he reached over and shut off the light. "Go to sleep, angel." He rubbed her side as he fell asleep himself.
He knew what he had to do and he knew how much it was going to kill him, but he had to make sure she was okay, he had promised and he was never going to break a promise. Especially not to her and especially not one this big.
