For several long moments all they could do was sit there on the couch and stare at each other, while Pete tried to think of a way to start the conversation. He could see she was stressed out but he wasn’t sure if it was because of where she had gone, or if it was being around him after what his Dad had said, but he was hoping it was the first. Finally, he cleared his throat and calmed himself as he decided what he was going to say. “Casey, did you still want to be with me?”
“Wow,” she mused softly, “straight to the point, huh?” She sighed softly and looked at Jasper, who looked up at her from his spot curled in her lap. She lifted her green eyes to Pete’s brown eyes and nodded slowly. “I do want to be with you Pete...”
“But?”
“But what your Dad said really, seriously hurt me Pete...” When he opened his mouth, she shook her head. “I don’t hold it against you Pete, which is why I don’t want to break up with you, I want to be with you, if you still wanted to be with me.”
Pete reached out over the small distance and softly cupped her face, making Casey smile slightly at the feel of his guitarist’s hands, callused but smooth at the palm. “I want to be with you Casey, and everything my Dad said has had no influence on how I feel about you. I tried calling you that night, but you wouldn’t answer your phone, and then you were gone so I couldn’t talk to you until now.”
“I left my cell here when I left,” she said with a small chuckle. “I put it on the table so I wouldn’t forget to grab it, you know since everything else was on the table, and I left it there.” She shook her head. “It was a pretty stupid thing to do, wasn’t it?”
Pete chuckled, smiling more at her smile than at the small act. “Yeah, but we all have moments,” he smiled.
Casey sighed softly. “I would have called you from Florida, but I didn’t want to use my Gram’s phone for long distance, and I don’t have your number memorized yet,” she chuckled.
“Florida?”
“That’s where I was... My gram had to go in for surgery and I had to get down there to watch after her until she would be fine on her own.”
“What was wrong with her?”
“Cancer,” she answered and brushed hair out of her face. “But they got the last of it this time so she won’t go under the knife for anything now,” she smiled.
“Is that what you seem so stressed out for?” He asked softly, taking her hand in his own. When Casey nodded, Pete gently picked up the curled up Jasper and set him on the couch before rising to his feet and bringing Casey to her feet. “Room,” he said when she gave him a confused look.
Casey made her way to her bedroom, with Pete behind her, as she walked in. “What are you up to Pete?”
“Just lay down, get comfy,” he answered. When she laid down on the bed, curled on her side, he laid down behind her and wrapped his arm around her, nuzzling the back of her neck softly.
Casey smiled to herself when she realized that he remembered that sometimes words didn’t make her feel better, but a nice bit of being held always did. Something she had told him before they started dating, he remembered, and that meant so much to her since no one else ever remembered. She took his hand in her own and yawned softly, relaxing into her boyfriend’s arms.

Pete yawned softly as he opened his eyes, smiling when he saw Casey was still sleeping soundly in his arms. He looked at the clock and saw they had slept the whole night but it wasn’t morning yet since there was no sunlight streaming in through her windows. He softly kissed her forehead, since she had turned over in her sleep, and carefully slid away from her and moved off of the bed.

When Casey awoke to an empty apartment she sighed with a smile and grabbed a pair of Dickies and an old Sex Pistols shirt before she went into her bathroom; she left the clothes laid out on her bed. She giggled when she walked in and saw Jasper curled up in the bathroom sink. “Guess I have to wait to brush my teeth until after my shower you little butthead...” She said and chuckled when the Hemingway kitten peaked an eye open at her and closed it with a yawn.
She undressed, wishing she hadn’t fallen asleep in her clothes, and caught a glance in the mirror at the bruise on her upper arm. She paused and looked at the hand print in the mirror, before she turned her head and looked down at it, gingerly touching it with a wince. “Guess I won’t be wearing any tank tops anytime soon,” she muttered and got into her shower. “Wonder where Pete went...” She paused for a moment, thinking about what she had just said before she let out a soft giggle at the small joke.
Once done with her shower she stepped out and grabbed a towel, wrapping it around herself, once again catching a glimpse of her arm in her mirror. She shook her head and poked her head out of her bathroom, looking around before she made a small dash to her bedroom. She had made the mistake once of going from her bathroom to her room, forgetting Pete was over since she was tired as Hell. Needless to say he saw her in just a towel and so far that was as much as he had seen. That was the day he got to see the tattoos on her back.
As she shut the door and glanced around to make sure it was safe in her room, she dried off and pulled her clothes on, making sure her sleeve covered her bruise. She hated the fact that she had something more to hide from Pete, because she felt like she was lying to him. In a way she was, but now she had more to hide from him. She left her room and went to the living room. She had just curled up on the couch when Pete walked in with a smile on his face and a bag with take-out in his hand.
“So that’s where you went, huh?” She asked, smiling as best as she could.
“Yep,” he said, noticing her wet hair as he set the food on the table. “Take a shower?”
“Nope, it started raining in the apartment so I sung a song and did a little jig,” she answered with a totally serious face and tone that made him lift his eyebrow at her. The action made her giggle, which made him smile as she rose to her feet and went to him, sliding her arms around his mid-section.
“You okay babe?” He looked down at her with concern as he slid his arms around her, pulling her close.
She laid her head on his chest and nodded as she listened to his heartbeat. “I just need to be close to you for a moment,” she whispered and closed her eyes.
Pete smiled softly and kept on hand on her back as he brought up the other one, lightly brushing his fingers through her soft curls. He slowly rocked her, swaying from side to side, smiling down at her when she looked up at him.
“Thanks Pete,” she said softly before kissing his cheek.
He let her go and smiled. “Hey, anything for-” Pete was cut off by Jasper stretching on his leg, making him give a soft curse. “Hey Jasper,” he said with a strained smile of clenched teeth.
Casey giggled. “He missed you,” she said as she bent down and pick up the cat, both her and Pete unaware at first of the sleeve rising up due to his claw snagging the fabric; her bruise now exposed.
“So I noticed,” he said with a smile before kissing her temple, frowning when he caught sight of the bruise. “Case?”
“What’s wrong Pete?” She asked, noticing the sudden loss of the smile from his face.
“Baby, what happened to your arm?”
“Wow,” she mused softly, “straight to the point, huh?” She sighed softly and looked at Jasper, who looked up at her from his spot curled in her lap. She lifted her green eyes to Pete’s brown eyes and nodded slowly. “I do want to be with you Pete...”
