Casey sniffled as she buried her face in Pete’s chest, whimpering softly as she held back from sobbing into his chest. She hiccuped as he softly ran his hand over her back, trying to comfort her. She didn’t want to leave, but sadly enough the day came along where she had to board a flight back to Illinois, which meant leaving Pete behind for Gods know how long. They didn’t know when he would be back and as she cried softly into his chest, he kept murmuring soft words of assurance against the top of her head.

He held it together as best as he could, even through the other three could tell their friend and band mate didn’t want to see his girlfriend go back home. Joe could even swear he saw a shimmer of tears forming in Pete’s eyes before he closed them and rested his head against hers.

It had been decided that they would say their goodbyes in the hotel to avoid any bum rushes at the airport, which would definitely ruin their private moment, but the trouble was getting them to let go of each other to send her on her way.

Patrick frowned slightly as he watched, feeling a tinge of jealousy. He really didn’t want to see Casey go with how much fun they all had together with her here. He even liked how much she made his friend smile, but he knew she had to go so she could return to work. He shifted his weight from foot to foot, trying not to say anything to interrupt their moment. He bit his lip, slowly working the imprint of his teeth into his flesh.

“Pete, she has to go man,” Andy said softly, hating to be the one to break in. He wanted her to stay as much as the others, just not for the same reason. Joe had obviously found someone he can watch football with and have fun.

Casey sniffled and pulled back some, wiping the tears from her eyes. “He’s right,” she said before sniffling again, wiping away more tears. “I really do have to get going or I’ll miss my flight.”

“I wish you could,” Pete said with a sad smile as he slowly ran his hand through her hair and let go of her. “I’ll miss you baby...”

“I’ll miss you too Pete,” she said before she leaned up and kissed him softly. “Ride the elevator with me? Please?”

Pete nodded and looked at the others. “I’ll be back in a few,” he said before he followed Casey to the elevator where one of the bodyguards were holding the doors open, and had been for the past ten minutes. He nodded a thank you and pushed the button for the lobby when Casey was on with her rolling luggage bag. “I wish you hated your job,” he said softly as she pressed against his side and he slid his arm around her.

“Yeah, then I wouldn’t want to go back,” she whispered as she laid her head on his shoulder.

“Think Dolly would let you go for another week?” His tone said half joking, the other half clearly begging her to let him try.

“Even if she would Pete, this week alone killed my next paycheck and don’t even offer to help out. Push that thought from your head right now.”

“H-How did you-”

“There are times when I know you,” she said with a small smile as she looked up at him. “This just happens to be one of those times.”

Pete smiled and kissed her softly and let the kiss linger until the doors open and he slowly pulled away. “Bye baby,” he said before she wheeled her bag off of the elevator and turned, giving him a small wave.

“Bye Pete, I’ll call you when I get home.”

“I’ll keep my phone on.”

“Never a problem with you,” she smiled, smiling more when she heard his laughter as the doors to the elevator shut. She sighed, her smiled fading when she saw the cab waiting outside of the hotel for her.

The drive to the airport consisted of her sniffling and fighting to keep her tears at bay, thankfully the cab driver didn’t inquire as to what was wrong with her; she knew she would have lost it if he had. The flight she managed to handle, even though she hated flights and she ended up going to the bathroom so she could cry without hundreds of passengers and a handful of flight attendants seeing her.

Casey pushed open the door to her job, looking at Dolly who sat behind the counter filling out some paperwork. She gave her a sad smile when she looked up at her. “Hey Dolly.”

“Hey brat, what are you doing here? You know you’re not due back until tomorrow,” Dolly said as she got up and came out from behind the counter, pulling the girl into a hug. “Everything okay?”

Casey hugged Dolly and sighed as they pulled away from each other. “Everything’s fine, I just got home, but I wanted to stop in and make sure the place is still standing,” she said, smiling slightly.

“It’s barely standing Cas,” Dolly said as she went back behind the counter.

Casey moved over to stand across the counter from Dolly, leaning over it. “Why? What’s going on?”

“Three quitters in one week, and one got fired,” Dolly scoffed, shaking her head as she looked at the paperwork she was filling out.

“Three quitters and one fire? You have to be kidding me Doll.”

“I’m not. Fucking Troubles. I caught her ass trying to slip money in her wallet from the drawer. Diana, Christi, and Lisa said the job was too hard on them,” she ended her sentence with another scoff. “How fucking hard is it to check in books and stock them? Hell, taking customers ain’t even all that fucking hard. And I would have called you but I know you needed the damn time.”

Casey frowned. “Well I’m back now, couldn’t you work me extra? I’ll work off the clock if need be. You know that.”

Dolly frowned. “I’ve already been told by the owner of this shit hole to work you as much as you’ll let me, so off the clock won’t be an option right now. It’ll only be until he can find some more people.”

“Need anyone tonight?”

“Nah, we got Jeremiah and Ellen in right now and it’s slow,” Dolly shook her head as she answered, looking up from her paperwork. “You got food in that rat trap of yours?”

“Just for Jasper. I’ll get som-”

“You’ll get your ass in your car and have dinner with my family tonight at ten, got it?” Dolly demanded, interrupting Casey, obviously not caring that she did so.

Casey smiled slightly. “Alright Dolly. I’ll see you guys at ten.”

“Good. Now get out of here and get a little bit of rest in.”

“Yes ma’am,” Casey said with a faux salute and headed out the door.
