Author's Note: Ok. So, this is my first fanfic. Any advice that anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. Now, on with the show.
It’s just before dawn when the van, trailer in tow, pulls into the venue. This is the first stop on the Warped Tour and the biggest tour Modern Gods has ever done.
“All right guys, wake up. We’re here.” says John from the driver’s seat. John is the male lead singer and guitarist. A variety of disgruntled noises great his words. His three band mates are not in the mood to wake up. They drove all night to get here, each taking a turn at the wheel while the others attempted to sleep. Attempted because, of the four, only their female lead singer and bassist, Tony, is really good at sleeping in a moving vehicle. This fact results in her usually doing most of the driving on tours. If she complains, her band mates are always quick to point out that she is the one that gets the most ‘quality sleep’. Right now, however, she is curled up in the backseat with their rhythmic guitarist, Nick. Don’t go getting any ideas. It’s not like that. For one; Nick is gay, and for two; all three of her bandmates think of her as their sister and she thought of them as brothers.
“Dude, its not even dawn yet.” groans Chris, their drummer, from the front seat. The front seat has been permanently ‘his seat’ since their first tour 3 years ago. It only makes sense really. Chris is 6’3” with a physique vaguely resembling that of an ogre. He needs the extra room.
“No. Really? Come on, the sooner we get the merch set up the sooner we can lay down to sleep in the back of the van.” Which is of course where their merch tent, chairs, merchandise, cooler, and bags currently reside. Their instruments and other gear live in the trailer. At this point, John opens his door causing the dome light to flick on and his band mates to make some very colorful statements regarding his lineage and sexual preferences. He just laughs in an evilly pleased manner. He knows that there is no real malice behind their bitching.
They have been in this band together since they were all in 11th grade. And, their relationships with each other are particularly close in part owing to their universally crappy family lives. John’s parents were disinterested stoners, Chris’ dad was verbally abusive, Nick’s mom was a corporate exec who treated him like he was nothing more than a burden, and Tony’s dad liked to beat her. The band is the only family any of them claim anymore.
After a bit more groaning and muttered insults, they all get out of the van and set up their merch tent. When they are done they have three hours before the venue is set to open and five before they are set to take the stage. So, true to their plan, John sets the alarm on his watch as they all grab their pillows and blankies and crawl into the back of the van. Nick is the last one in, so he closes the van door and the curtain that separates the storage/sleeping area from the front of the van. They all lay down together and are asleep within minutes. It isn’t an exceptionally large van so I do mean /together/. But they have been touring together for 3 years. They got over their ‘don’t-touch-me’s a long time ago. Truth be told, they even find it comforting to have each other so close.
