“I think I love her.”

The words coming from Pete’s mouth, silenced the laughter from Andy, Patrick, and Joe, who had been laughing over something the producer had said. Four sets of eyes, one set belonging to the record producer, settled on Pete as he looked up shyly from his Sidekick. Patrick, Andy, and Joe exchanged looks at each other before looking back to Pete who was looking unsure of himself.

“You think you love Casey?” Andy asked slowly as Patrick looked at the producer and nodded to the door, holding up a finger to signal for a moment alone.

Pete waited until the producer was gone before he nodded, looking solely at Andy. “I think I love her...”

“Have you told her this yet Pete?” Joe asked, moving over to sit by his friend.

Pete shook his head. “I’m too scared to... What if it scares her away because she doesn’t feel the same? I don’t want to lose her Joe.” Pete looked down at his Sidekick, staring at the blank text message screen. He had been replying to a message of hers when he realized he had just typed, /Love you babe/. He had erased the entire message and hadn’t had the nerve to try and rewrite everything but the last part, afraid he might write it again and not realize it until it was too late. Thankfully he had caught it after the last E and fixed it.

Joe frowned a little as he looked up at Patrick and Andy who also looked like they had no idea what to say. “Well... Do you know she doesn’t feel the same?”

“She hasn’t exactly said it either Joe,” Pete snapped, frowning as he typed a quick response and shut his Sidekick, shoving it into his hoodie pocket.

“Hey man, chill... Maybe she feels the same way and is afraid to say it, just like you are.”

“Joe could be right Pete,” Andy said as a few words finally came to his mind. “She might think she loves you but could possibly be afraid to say it because you might think she’s trying to wiggle her way into the spotlight with an act... She held out while you were gone, even came out to see you even though she hates to fly...” Pete looked up at him, letting him know he had his full attention. “She could even be afraid to say it because she just doesn’t think you love her back, not even factoring in the other stuff.”

Pete nodded slightly and looked down, picking at his stubbed nails. “Or she could just not love me... What if she thinks it’s too soon for love?”

“Pete, you guys are coming up on seven months now man. Five more months and it’ll hit a year. Now is one of the most okay times to be saying those three words,” Patrick said in a soft voice, trying to reassure his friend it was fine.

“Are you sure ‘Trick?”

Patrick nodded as Pete’s Sidekick went off again. “It’s perfectly fine Pete.”

Pete looked up from his Sidekick. “Casey wants to know if you guys want another home-cooked meal.”

“I’m in!” Joe exclaimed, blushing under the laughter of the other three around him. “Shut up already,” he pouted.

“Aw,” Patrick chuckled and smiled at Joe as he came back over, sitting next to Patrick. “I’m up for it.”

“I’m definitely up for it,” Andy spoke up.

Pete sent reply and put his Sidekick back in his pocket. “She wants to welcome you guys back home,” he said with a small smile.

“I see why you love her Pete,” Andy said, smiling. “She’s good to you, and us, she handled your brother with flying colors, and she could have gone off on your Dad, but she didn’t...”

“She’s just amazing,” Pete said with a smile.

“Hey, does she like Egg Nog?” Joe asked. When Pete nodded, he smiled. “I think I want to get her a thank you for her being nice enough to welcome us home.”

“I think she’ll like the Egg Nog, but you better hope your fro can cushion the blow,” Pete chuckled, shaking his head.

“What blow?” Joe asked, cocking his head to the side.

“The slap to the back of the head you’ll be likely to get when you hand over something you bought for her,” Pete answered. “Trust me, I know that feeling all too well.”

Joe chuckled. “She won’t hit me.”

“Wanna lay money on it?” Andy piped up, knowing Casey well enough. “She’ll appreciate it, but she doesn’t like anyone spending their money on her. You heard what happened with Andrew, she slid the money in his car when she claimed she left her phone in it. The day he bought her drink.”

“Maybe I’ll be lucky and she’ll find a way to slip it back to me rather than hitting me,” Joe smiled.

[Author's Note: Will she hit him? ^^ who knows]
