Chapter 16: Forgiven

~January, 2007~

There was a knock on Bobbie’s door. “Hey Pete, Come in.” They hugged. “I’m so glad you’re back for good. You have no idea.” “You said that a few months ago.” She laughed. “How was your Christmas?” Pete asked. “Alright. It was just Brody and I. Oh, look.” She showed him her hand. “He proposed.” “What? Oh. Uh, Congratulations.” “Be a little more happy for me.” “I am. I just really thought you and Patrick would get back together.” “Pete, it’s been 5 years.” “I know. So have you set a date?” “Not yet. Do you wanna watch a movie?” “Sounds fun.” Bobbie put in a movie and sat next to Pete. It was just like old times.

Pete noticed her house had reminders of Patrick everywhere. She had a few pictures of them together, the picture of the lyrics to ‘Grand Theft Autumn/Where is your boy?’, hoodie's and the messenger bag. He also noticed the necklace. Even if she didn’t admit it, she still loved Patrick.

There was a knock on the door. Bobbie went to answer it. “Hi Brody. Hey, I want you to meet someone..” “Alright.” “This is Pete Wentz. He’s a friend from here. Pete, this is my fiancée Body Foster.” “Hi, nice to meet you.” Pete said sticking out his hand. But Brody wouldn’t take it. “Uh, okay. Well, Bobbie I’ll see you later.” She walked him to the door. “I’m sorry Pete. I’ll talk to you later.” She closed the door and went to Brody. “What was that all about?” “Nothing.” “Brody, tell me.” “I just don’t like you seeing those fags.” “Pete is not a fag as you put it and I haven’t seen any of the other guys. Pete is my best friend.” “Shouldn’t you have a female as a best friend?” “Well, I don’t. Get used to it. I told you about him.” “Did you ever fuck him?” “What?” “Have you?” “Yes, but it didn’t mean anything. I was still hurting from Patrick.” “How long ago was it?” “Five years. Brody, please. He’s just a friend.” “I need to talk to you about something.” “What?” He went to her bedroom and came out with a box she was to familiar with. “Where did you find that?” “I lost my tie when I spent the night and when I was looking for it, I found the box. I have read the emails, letters from Patrick, seen everything in here. You still love him.” “No, I don’t.” “Bobbie, you are still wearing the necklace and have pictures of him.” “He was very special to me. I was pregnant with his child. Will you just give me time to deal with this and take the stuff down.” “Of course. I’m not a heartless bastard.” “Stop it.” “She went to his arms. “I just came over to talk. I have a big case tomorrow. I’ll call you after school. Okay?” “Alright.” She kissed him. “Love you, Bobbie.” “Love you, too.”

The next morning Bobbie got dressed for school. She got in her car and went to go to Coffee Bean to get a coffee. She opened the door and while she was getting her money she ran into a mans back. “Oh, I’m so sorry.” He turned around. She looked into those green eyes that she dreamt about for the last 5 years. “Patrick!” “Bobbie, how have you been?” “Good. And you?” “Okay.” “You sure have made a name for yourself.” “Thanks. Sometimes I miss the old days though.” “Your voice has really grown.” He was blushing. “Sir, can I help you?” “Yes, I’ll have a latte.” He turned to Bobbie, “What do you want?” “I can pay.” “Let me do this.” “I’ll have a latte also.” After Patrick paid, they sat down. “I see you still use the bag I got you.” “Yeah. You got it for when I graduated.” She smiled. He looked at her hand. “Are you engaged?” “He asked me at Christmas. His name is Brody.” “Have you set a date?” “Not yet. So, you must have tons of girls falling for you.” “Actually no. There was one after Allison, but things didn’t go well. I’ve been on a few dates, but nothing serious.” “I’m sorry. Oh, I have to go or I’m going to be late.” “Bobbie, can I give you my phone number?” “Sure.” “Here’s my Chicago number and my cell. Call anytime.” “Thank you.” She stood up and so did Patrick. He hugged her. “It was so nice to see you.” He leaned back and gently caressed her cheek. “I gotta go.” She ran out of the coffee shop leaving her coffee behind. Patrick had the biggest smile on his face. He hadn’t smiled like that in 5 years.

School didn’t go well. All she could think of was the morning. She really still loved him. “Class, we have 10 minutes left today. Can you clean around your desk and get ready to leave.” She had a splitting headache. After class she graded some papers and went home. The phone was ringing when she walked through the door. “Hello?” “Hi Baby.” “Hi Brody.” “How was your day?” “Not good. I’ve had a headache all day. I think I’m going to bed early tonight.” “Okay. You rest and I’ll talk to you later.” Bobbie got into her pajamas and made herself a salad. She sat down to watch some T.V. “Coming out soon if Fall Out Boy’s highly anticipated new CD “Infinity On High”. We are with Pete and Patrick to talk about the new CD.” She was memorized by Patrick. She went and got his phone number. She knew she probably shouldn’t call him, but she did.

“Hello?” “Patrick?” “Hi Bobbie.” “Is it alright that I called?” “Of course. I’m not doing anything.” “Me either. I came home a few hours ago.” “How was school?” “Alright. The kids were a little out of hand. I teach 4th grade.” “They must keep you on your toes.” “They do. Um, Patrick. I really don’t know if I should be calling you.” “Why?” “Because I’m engaged.” “Well, we aren’t doing anything. Just talking as friends.” “I missed you.” “I missed you too. Pete would tell me things, but it wasn’t the same talking to you.” “I’m sorry for shutting you out. I shouldn’t of.” “Let’s not talk about this over the phone. Could we get together for supper sometime?” “Uh, I’ll have to check my schedule. Why don’t I call you in a couple of days.” “Alright. I would like to catch up on the last 5 years.” “Me too. I have to go. I’ll talk to you in a few days.” “Bye Bobbie.” Bobbie went to bed without a headache and a smile.

The next morning Brody called and asked Bobbie to go out after work. After school Bobbie showered, changed, and put on a little make-up. She was finishing up when Brody knocked on the door. “You look beautiful.” “Thank you. Ready?” “Yeah. Let’s go.” They went out to eat and then to a club. “Ben from work told me that this club is really popular.” “Cool.” She really wasn’t in the mood for going to a club. They got a in and got a table. “What do you want to drink?” “I’ll take a diet coke.” “Okay. Be right back.” The DJ started up some music. “Hey folks. How is everyone?” Everyone started screaming. “We have a special DJ tonight. Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy.” She couldn’t believe it. She hoped Brody wouldn’t freak. Again, everyone screamed. “Hey guys, here is a new song of ours ‘This Ain’t a scene, It’s a god damn Arms Race.’” Brody came back. “Isn’t that your so called friend?” “Yeah.” She looked down at her drink. They talked for awhile.

“Brody, I have to go to the bathroom. I’ll be right back.” “Alright.” She got up and went to the bathroom. She seen Patrick sitting in the VIP section. He was talking to a girl. Their eyes met. She ran to the bathroom. Once she got into the stall she started to cry. She shouldn’t be feeling this. “Bobbie, wake up you lost him.” She said to herself. She got out of the stall and fixed her make-up and left the bathroom. Patrick was waiting for her. “Hi.” “Hi Patrick. How are you?” “Alright. She’s Pete’s girlfriend, not mine.” “What? Oh her. You can have a girlfriend. I mean we aren’t dating.” “Yeah, I guess.” He missed looking into those brown eyes. “Have you found out yet when we can get together?” “Not yet. But soon. I’ll call you.” “You look beautiful.” He leaned in for a kiss. Someone cleared their throat. “Bobbie, what’s taking so long?” “Oh, Brody. This is Patrick, Patrick this is Brody.” “Her fiancée.” He said nasty to Patrick. They shook hands. “I used to date Bobbie. You are one lucky man. I was stupid and lost her.” “I know I’m lucky.” Brody put his arm around Bobbie. Almost like she was his property. Patrick didn’t like it. “Bobbie, let’s go back.” “Bye Patrick.” “Bye.” But Brody had her down the hallway already.

Pete was still DJ’ing. A hour later he said, “This next song goes out to one of my best friends girl.” ‘Grand Theft Autumn/Where is Your Boy’ played. She wanted to go home and not with Brody. Why did she shut Patrick out of her life? “Bobbie, Bobbie.” “Oh, what?” “You were daydreaming.” “I’m sorry. I have a lot on my mind with school. Could we go? I have an early day.” “Sure. It’s getting too loud anyways.” Brody took her home and she went to bed looking at a picture of Patrick and her. They were so happy. She put it down on her nightstand.

“So, how are things going with Bobbie, Patrick?” Pete asked. “I’m taking things slowly. I’ll get her back. Brody isn’t right for her.” “Yeah, not the nicest of guys.” She thought Megan and I were together. When she seen us she ran to the bathroom. When she came out I could tell she had been crying. She never could hide it from me.” “She never stopped loving you.” “I never did either. Pete, I gotta go. I’m volunteering tomorrow.” “What?” “I know, but it’s something I want to do.” “Bye Patty.”

“Bobbie, how are you this morning?” She was in the teachers lounge. “Good. Things are going well with the children.” “I have some news for your music class.” “Oh, what?” “There’s a man who is volunteering to help you.” “Okay.” “I can’t remember his man. He’ll be here around 10:30.” “Thank you. It will really help.”

The morning went well. At 10:30 there was a knock on the door. “Class finish reading pages 27 to 29.” She went to the door. “Patrick? What are you doing here?” “I’m helping you with your music class.” “Oh, okay. Come in. The class is reading their Geography book right now. We’ll start after. You can sit over there for now.” How was she going to get through this? Music class was three days a week. “Okay class. We have a special guest. He is going to be volunteering for our music class. His name is Mr. Stump. I want you to show him the same respect as you do for me.” She was so nervous, she didn’t know why. “We have been looking at different instruments. Do you want to talk about the guitar and play a song or two?” “Sure.” As Patrick talked and played the guitar, Bobbie was in awe. When they first met he was so shy. He wouldn’t know what to say.

At noon the children went for lunch. “Thank you Patrick.” “Sure.” He was putting his guitar away.” “I’ll call you tonight about getting together.” “I’ll be home. Pete sent some lyrics that I want to get some music going with them.” “I’m sorry about last night with Brody. He can be..” “Difficult?” “Yeah.” “Is he good to you?” “Yes.” “That’s all I care about. I could care less how he treats me. I want him to treat you the way you should be treated. The way I should of treated you.” He stroked her cheek. She looked down. “Look up Bobbie.” He kissed her softly. “See you later.” He walked out of the classroom. She touched her lips. He hasn’t lost his touch. “Damn, I can’t be feeling this.” After class, she called Brody. “Hey Brody, how are you?” “Good, how was school?” “Good. Are we still on for tomorrow?” “Actually no. I have to meet with the partners. It will be a long night. I’m sorry. I’ll make it up to you.” “Okay. Don’t worry about it. I’ll find something to do. Maybe go out and get something to eat.” “I’m busy with a case here. Once I get it settled we’ll spend some time together.” “Alright. Bye.” She hung up and called Patrick. She felt awful what she was doing to Brody, but he wouldn’t understand.

“Hi Patrick.” “Hi, what’s up.” “Are you free tomorrow?” “Yeah, where would you like to go?” “How about ’The Golden Romance’?” “Sounds good. I’ll pick you up at 6:00. Do you have anything planned for tonight?” “I have papers to grade. The life of a teacher.” She laughed.” Pete is coming over in a few minutes.” “Tell him hi. I gotta go. See you at 6:00 tomorrow.” “Bye”

Pete showed up at Patrick’s ten minutes later. “Hey, what’s up?” “Bobbie and I have a date. Well, not technically a date. But we’re going out.” “Don’t screw it up.” “I don’t plan to.” “How was your volunteering?” “Great.” Patrick had a smile on his face. “What?” “Nothing.” “No. You’re going to tell me. Where are you volunteering that is making you smile like that.” “Bobbie’s class. I’m helping her with the music class.” “How did she take it?” “She was shocked. I don’t think she knew what to do.” “I just pray that this doesn’t blow up in your face.” “I’ve waited 5 years for her. I want her back. She haunts my dreams. After all this time I still can’t get her out of my mind and heart.” “I’m with you buddy.”

After school Bobbie went home and showered. The phone rang after she stepped out of the shower. “Hello?” “Hi Bobbie.” It was Brody. “How’s work?” “Long. I’m ready to go home, but we have a lot to do yet. Do you have any plans?” “Yeah. A friend from work and I are going out to eat and then to the movies.” She hated lying, but it was the only way. “Bobbie, I have to go. You have a nice time.” “I will. Talk to you later. Bye. She wore a purple skirt that came above her knees and a white buttoned shirt. She got her white Van shoes. She was a little nervous. A few minutes later there was a knock. “Hi Patrick. You look real nice.” He had on black jeans with a stripped white shirt and a fedora hat on. He looked so damn sexy, Bobbie thought.

“So do you. Are you ready?” “Yes, lets go.” Patrick drove to the restaurant and they got a table. After they ordered they talked. “How was college?” “Good. I put myself in school work. It took me an extra year to graduate because I transferred. Pete always gave me updates about you guys and he sent me the CD’s. I loved hearing your voice.” He took her hand. “I missed you so much. I wasn’t in a right mind then. I missed the baby and I felt that I let you down. That I didn’t protect you.” “Patrick, but you did protect me. Yes, Jackson hut me and killed our baby. But if you didn’t show up I could of died. You need to stop blaming yourself.” “I know. It has taken me awhile to figure this out. I am so sorry for everything.” “You are forgiven. Only if you forgive me. I am sorry for leaving like I did.” “You are also forgiven.” They smiled at each other. “Can I ask you what happened with Allison?” “I knew she wasn’t who I wanted right away, but I kept going out with her. Finally in February of 2002 I ended it. She was no fun. Not like you.” She kissed him. First it was going to be on the cheek, but it turned into a longer kiss on his lips. She put her hand on his cheeks feeling his side burns.

“Bobbie, what the fuck?” She broke free. “Brody.” She stood up. “Your taking this wrong. It’s not what it looks like” “What? You kissing your ex. Are you fucking him too?” “Brody, keep your voice down.” People were starting to stare. “Leave her alone.” Patrick said. “No, she is my fiancée. She is nothing to you now. As I heard it you were fucking around on Bobbie. You have no reason even to see her anymore.” “Brody, please stop it.” Bobbie said to him. “Okay, you and me outside.” He pointed to Patrick. They left. “Oh god, this can’t end good.” Bobbie said. She paid for their supper. She then went to find Patrick and Brody. When she did they were fighting. “Will you two stop it?” Brody got on top of Patrick and started punching his face over and over. Bobbie went to Brody and pulled him off. “Stop. You’re going to kill him.” “ I should of known you were with him.” Bobbie knelt to Patrick. “You never moved on. You wouldn’t move in with me or even have oral sex and the sex we had you never let go. What was it? What makes him so damn special” “He cares even when I’ve hurt him. Unlike you. You have never had time for me. I know you have your career, but a compliment or a rose here and there would have been nice. The reason I didn’t let go or want oral sex is because sex with Patrick was special. I’m sorry. You are right I never moved on. Here.” She gave him the ring back. “I’m sorry. Don’t call me ever again. I can’t believe you would do something like this.” “I’m sorry too, you slut. Believe me I want nothing to do with you or with your punk ass boyfriend. ” He walked away. Patrick couldn’t believe his ears. Sex with him was special and she never moved on. He just might have a chance with her again. Bobbie ran to Patrick. “Oh fuck. Patrick, are you alright?” “No, my fucking face and head hurts. I guess that’s what I get for beating up a 6’1 guy.” “Do you want to go to the hospital?” She was wiping his face with her sweater. “No. I’ll go home.” “No your not. Your coming to my house. Give me your keys.” Patrick gave her the keys to his car and she helped him in.

Once they were in the house Bobbie helped Patrick inside and to the bathroom. “Sit on the toilet.” She went out and came back with the First Aid Kit. “Patrick, I’m so sorry.” “I’m the one who should be sorry. Because of me your engagement is off.” “I’ve been thinking about giving him the ring back. Don’t worry about it.” She wiped Patrick’s face with a wet wash cloth. “Ouch. That stings.” I’m sorry.” His face looked awful. “This is really going to sting.” “No, please.” “Quit being a baby, Mr. Stump.” He smiled at her. For the first time in a long time she was actually happy, even if her baby was hurt. Her baby? No, she couldn’t think like that. “Okay, ready?” “Yeah.” She dabbed on some betadine on his face. “Fuck. Fuck. That hurts.” “All done. The cuts don’t look too deep.” He took her hand. “Thank you, Bobbie. You didn’t have to do this after everything I put you though.” “I couldn’t leave you laying there. Now, I want you to spend the night in case you need anything.” “Really?” He raised his eyebrows. “No, not like that. You’re sleeping on the couch.” “Oh.” “Come on lover boy.” He smiled at her.

She got a blanket and pillow for Patrick. “If you need anything, you know where I am. Since it’s Saturday and I don’t teach we maybe can get something to eat tomorrow morning.” “Sounds good. Thanks again.” “Goodnight.” “Goodnight.” After Bobbie closed the bedroom door, Patrick looked around. Pete told him she still kept things of them together out. He seen the picture of the lyrics, photos of them, and finally the box. He didn’t know if he should open it. On the top was written ‘My first love-P.S.’. He opened the box. There were some of the baby’s things, the sonogram, the ring he gave her, pictures, emails from Pete and clippings about Fall Out Boy. He couldn’t believe she kept all this stuff. Underneath, the box was a letter.

Brody,

You asked me to get rid of the things from Patrick. I have thought about it. I can’t. Patrick was the first man that I truely loved. I still love him. I have also thought about us. I don’t love you. I don’t think I ever have. I want to find what I had with Patrick. I may never find that, but that’s what I want. Here is your ring. Goodbye.

Bobbie

So she was really planning on breaking up with him. He actually felt bad for the guy. But not too bad. He was very happy for himself. She still loved him. He put everything away and went to the couch. He took off his jeans and laid on the couch. He went to sleep right away.

Bobbie fell asleep almost right away. “Mommy, Mommy. Wake up, Mommy.” “Hi baby. Where have you been? I’ve missed seeing you.” “I’ve been watching you and Daddy.” “We miss you.” “I know, but you both weren’t ready for me yet.” Bobbie looked down. “Mommy?” “Yes?” “Daddy loves you very much. He never stopped.” “I never stopped either.” “I know. That’s why you helped him. Give him another chance.” With that Bobbie woke up. She had dreams about the baby. But the baby never mentioned Patrick.

It was after 8:00 so she decided to get up. She went to the living room. Patrick was still sleeping. She bent down to him. His face looked awful. She touched it gently. He always looked so cute when he was asleep. “Why do I still love you? I should hate you for cheating on me. The baby said I should give you another chance. I just don’t know.” She leaned and kissed him on the cheek. She went to the kitchen.

Patrick opened his eyes. He couldn’t believe it. She loved him. She also said something about the baby. Did she dream of the baby too. He didn’t know what to do. Finally hearing her again, he got up and put on his jeans. He went to the kitchen. “Good morning Bobbie.” “How are you feeling?” “Like hell. Do you have any aspirins?” “Sure” She went to the bathroom and came out with two. “Here you go. Did you sleep well?” “Actually yes. Do you want to get something to eat?” “Sure. I’m starving.” “Okay. Why don’t I go home and shower and change and then meet you at Mr. D’s in a hour.” See you then. Drive careful.”

She drove into Mr. D’s parking lot. She seen Patrick’s blue Civic. She seen him as soon as she went in the restaurant. “Hi, do you feel better?” She asked Patrick. “Much. I can’t believe what a shower can do.” They ordered breakfast. “I’m really sorry about last night.” “It’s not your fault, Bobbie.” “I just feel bad.” “Don’t.” “So, you want to go back to our conversation last night before Brody interrupted.” “Yeah, so I broke up with Allison. I was in major depression. Not over her, but because I missed you and screwed everything up with you. Then in January 2004 I met Samantha. She was nice at first, but then a few months later she became verbal with me. I just took it, so after we broke up I poured myself in the music. So, what about you?” “I kept busy with school and interning. Brody was my first boyfriend after you. I met him in 2004. He’s older than me. When I met him he was already done with graduate school. He’s been real nice, except with you and Pete.” She looked down. “He’s been wanting to move in. I kepte telling him no. Even sex with him wasn’t the best. God, I can’t believe I’m telling you this. I guess I knew we would never marry. I was writing a letter to end it.” “Yeah. I seen it. I hope your not mad.” “No, I had it out there.” “Bobbie, could we ever get back together?” Just then the food arrived. “So, what do you think?” “I don’t know. I’m still hurt, but I have forgiven you. We were going through a lot. I shouldn’t of shut you out” “Well, could we be friends?” “Aren’t we already?” She smiled. “I guess so.” Patrick had jelly on his face. She laughed. “What?” “Hold still.” She leaned over and wiped the jelly off with her finger and licked it. “Yummy. Trick flavored.” Patrick started getting butterflies in his stomach. He loved this woman. How was he going to stay friends with her and nothing more.
