Chapter 17: Carpal Tunnel Of Love
The next morning Bobbie got up early. She spent Saturday with Patrick. She had such a nice time. After breakfast she started some laundry and then went to check her email. She had an e-card. She opened it. It was from Patrick. She loved it.
Just wanted to let you know I had a great time yesterday. I’ve missed you these 5 years. It was good to catch up. Call if you need anything. See you Monday at school.
Love ya, (as friends)
Trick
She had a smile on her face all day. In the evening there was a knock on her door. “Hey Pete. Come on in.” “How are you doing?” “Good. Did Patrick tell you about Brody?” “Yes. Son of a bitch. I’m sorry Bobbie.” “Actually, I was about to break it off. How is Trick’s face?” “Pretty bad, but he’s smiling more than I’ve seen in the last 5 years.” “Pete we are just friends.” “For now. You remembered what I said, I’ll get you two back together. She laughed. “Are you okay, with being friends with Patrick?” “Of course. Why wouldn’t I be?” “There’s not an ounce of you that wants to fuck him?” “Peter! How crude can you be?” “You have no idea.” He raised his eyebrows. “Very funny.” “Well, what is your answer?” “Yes, I want to sleep with Patrick. But right now we are just friends. Maybe in the future things will change.” “I hope so.” “Pete, it’s getting late and I need to go to bed.” “Alright. Let’s go.” “Pete, go home.” She laughed. “Okay. Talk to you later. He kissed her on the cheek and left.
The morning went well. The children actually listened. Patrick came around 11:00. “Hi Bobbie.” “Hi, how are you doing?” “Good.” “Okay class. Mr. Stump is here again. He’s going to play some songs and maybe let you play a few chords.” Patrick played some songs and most of the children played on his guitar. He noticed one boy in the back looking down. “Bobbie, what’s his story?” “That’s Eric. He comes from a rough home life.” “I want him to play.” “Okay. I’ll see what I can do.” She said. “Class, it’s time for lunch. All of you can go to the lunchroom. Eric, can I see you?” After the rest of the class left, Eric went to Bobbie. “Yes, Miss Madison?” “Would you like to play Mr. Stump’s guitar?” “I’d like to, but I won’t be any good.” “That’s what I thought. But now I’m in a band.” Patrick said. “Sit down here.” Eric sat on the stool. Patrick put his guitar over Eric’s shoulder and stood behind him. Bobbie watched both Patrick and Eric. Eric was smiling. “Okay, this here is a C chord.” “Cool. I’m actually playing.” “Next time come up.” “I’m too shy.” “Hey, so am I. Maybe I can teach you here and there.” “Thank you, Mr. Stump.” “When there’s no class you can call me Patrick, okay?” “Okay. Thank you again.” Eric went to lunch.
“Patrick, thank you so much.” She hugged him. “You made that boy’s day.” “He just seemed so sad.” “His dad beats him. He’s been in jail and Eric’s been in foster care. He’s back with his father. His mother died giving birth to him.” “Damn.” “His father blames him for his mothers death. I have never seen him smile until today. So thank you so much.” “Do you think his father would let him take guitar lessons from me?” “I’m sure he would. I could send him a letter home with Eric.” “I’d really like to help him. He seems like a great kid.” “He is. He’s just had a rough start to life. I hope he makes it.” “Yeah.. Well, I better let you get some lunch.” “Okay, I’ll give you a call later?” “I’d like that. See you later.” Patrick hugged her and left.
The rest of the day went well. After class she talked with Eric. “Eric, did you enjoy your time with Patrick?” “Yeah, he’s really neat. I won’t tell who he really is.” “What?” “My cousin and I listen to Fall Out Boy.” “Oh really?” “Yeah. I knew who he was right away. Patrick is my favorite.” “Well, good. I have a question for you. Do you think your father would let Patrick teach you to play guitar? That is if you want to.” “I don’t know. I’d love to, but we don’t have any extra money for a guitar.” “Patrick, will let you use his. I wrote your father a letter explaining what Patrick would like to do. Have him call me if he has any questions. Alright?” “Okay. Thank you Miss Madison. See you tomorrow.” “Have a good night, Eric.”
Bobbie went home and had supper. She had started grading some papers when the phone rang. “Hello?” “Hello. I would like to talk to Miss Madison.” “This is her.” “I’m Eric Roy’s father.” “Yes.” “I got the letter from you. I think it would be a great idea for him to learn guitar and he really wants to do it. He really has no hobbies.” “Okay. Patrick Stump is teaching the kids. He has offered to teach Eric. I’ll let him know and on Wednesday him and Eric can plan out days. Will that be alright?” “Yes, thank you.” “Sure.” After she hung up she called Patrick. “It’s Patrick.” “Hi. Eric’s dad just called.” “Really? What did he have to say?” “For once he was really nice. He said that it would be alright for you to teach Eric.” “Awesome. Does he have a guitar?” “No, he was worried about that.” “Maybe on Wednesday I’ll take Eric and buy him one.” “Patrick, thank you for doing this. He’ll love it.” “I have a question for you.” “Okay.” “In a few weeks we are performing at the American Music Awards and I was wondering if you would be my date. That is as friends.” “Um, I don’t know. What day is it and where?” “It’s on a Sunday and in Los Angeles.” “Well, I suppose I could get a sub to teach. Alright. I’ll go, but I don’t have anything to wear.” “Pete and Megan. You remember her.” “Yeah. The girl I thought you were with. Are you enjoying this?” “Just wondering if you did.” They laughed. “Anyway, they are going out to L.A. on Thursday. Do you think you could get a sub for Friday and we could go out and you and her could shop together?” “Yeah. I have the time to use. But Patrick, I can’t afford anything in L.A.” “Don’t worry. I’ll give you the money. I’m the one asking you to go.” “Are you sure?” “Yes.” “Thank you, Patrick.” “I’ll tell Pete tonight. Er, do you want to stay at a hotel or my house?” “I can stay with you, if you don’t mind.” “Not at all. I’m going to be busy tomorrow. Would you like to get together Wednesday night?” “Sure. Whey don’t you come over here for lasagna and we watch a movie.” “Okay. I’ll see you at school on Wednesday.” “Bye. Good night.”
Wednesday after school Bobbie made lasagna and bread. After she put it in the oven she went and took a shower and got dressed. She just put on jeans and a white t-shirt. Patrick came a few minutes later. “I brought some flowers for you and a bottle of wine. I usually don’t drink, but tonight I thought it would be a nice night.” Thank you. How did guitar shopping go?” “Great. That kid is amazing. We got him an acoustic guitar and case. I also got him Fall Out Boy music books. Did you know he knew who I was?” “Yeah, he told me. He said you’re his favorite.” “Really?” Patrick was blushing. Bobbie went to Patrick and kissed him. “Thank you again for everything. You are the amazing one.” They just stared into each other eyes for a few minutes. “The lasagna is almost ready. Why don’t you open the wine.” Bobbie said. “I’ll get the glasses.” Patrick opened the wine and poured some into the glasses. Bobbie took them to the table. “Can you take the bread and lasagna out of the oven?” “Sure.” He got their supper out of the oven. They ate and talked about their day. Afterwards, they both did dishes and cleaned up.
“So what do you want to watch?” Bobbie asked Patrick. “Do you still have Rushmore?” “I should of known.” Bobbie got the DVD and put it in. She sat next to Patrick. Halfway through the movie she fell asleep. Her head fell on Patrick’s shoulder. He didn’t know if he should wake her. When the movie finished he woke her. “Bobbie.” “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to fall asleep.” “I don’t mind.” She reached up and touched his lips. She leaned into him and kissed him. She slipped her tongue into his mouth. She missed this so much. She pulled him down with her so they were laying on the couch. He looked down at her. He kissed her neck, while his hands roamed her body. She took off his hat and ran her fingers through his hair. “Patrick.” “Yeah baby.” “We need to stop.” “Yeah.” But they continued. She grabbed his shirt and pulled it over his head. She ran her hands up and down his chest. Patrick sat up. “Bobbie, let’s stop.” “What?” “I know. This is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do, but I don’t want you to regret it.” “I won’t.” “Bobbie, a few days ago you said you want to be friends. I don’t want to ruin that with sex.” He grabbed his shirt and put it on along with his hat. “Are you alright?” He asked. “Yeah, but I don’t think this friendship is going to work.” “Why?” “I want to sleep with you. Badly.” “I want to sleep with you too. Let’s just take things slow. I think when we first got together we moved too fast. Let’s just be friends. For now. Okay.” She looked at the carpet. “Yeah, I guess.” “Hey.” He put two of his fingers under her chin. “Look at me.” She looked at Patrick. “Don’t be sad. Things will work out. I’m not giving up on us. I too just want to be friends so when we take that next step, we don’t end up like last time.” “I understand. Do you want some ice cream?” “Sure.” She kissed him on the cheek and they went and had some ice cream. After they left Patrick went home. When he got home he could of kicked himself, but he knew it was for the best. He wanted her and didn’t want to fuck it up again.
