4 weeks later...
We were in tutor period. If i had any other form tutor, i would go insane. But i didn't. i
had Mr Demm. Well, me, Bryony and two of our other friends (Joy and Frances) did.
Mr Demm had a knack of taking things that he was
expected to take seriously, being a teacher, and completely and utterly take the piss out of
it, and still get away with it. This was one of those times. We were filling in a
questionnaire titled "What do you like about your planner". He had already added "smelly
page" and "self inflating cushion" to the list of things we would like to see in the new
planner, and i could see that he was getting another idea.
"I KNOW! THEY SHOULD BE TALKING PLANNERS!" he exclaimed.
"What? Like, complimenting you everytime you open it?"
"Yes Daisy!! exactly like that!! Shall I write that down?" He said, writing it down anyway.
We all had our heads buried in our arms, laughing to ourselves when my phone went off.
I was Gerard. The text said: "Just got letters about a trip. You got em yet?"
I texted back: "No, due to my form tutor being extremely unorganised. I can see them on his
desk, but we haven't had them yet..."
At that minute, Mr Demm went to his desk, and chucked some paper at us. This, i assumed,
was the letter that Gerard had been talking about.
"A school trip to Antigua?!" Bryony sounded confused. "But our school never goes further
than Cornwall?!"
"It's not organised by our school" Said Mr Demm.
"Aaaah, that explains it."
I read the letter. it told us that only 20 people could go, from the boys school and our
school, and they pretty much needed payment immediately. It was on a first come first served
basis, and all the admin was being done at the boys school.
"I won't be able to" said Joy
"Aww why not?" said Bryony.
"Cos I don't want to."
"fairy nuff....." I said.
"I can't be bothered to sort out all the money so quickly" said Frances
"What about you Daisy" Bryony turned to me.
"Hell yeah!"
. . . .
We arrived at the park late today. I had texted Daisy earlier about this trip, but they
hadn't had the letters yet, so I never got to know who would be able to go. Daisy, Bryony,
Lauren, Amy and Sarah were already there.
"So, whaddaya think?" I said
"we can all go!" said Sarah "and you guys?"
"We rekon we can go, but Frank isn't sure if he'll be allowed." I saw Bryony's face fall,
and Frank's as well. I wondered if i was missing something here...
"It'll just be the money thing, but if i really wanted to go, we'd find the money from
somewhere..." Frank said, confident that he would be able to oull it off somehow. I was
impressed with his persistance. I would have just cracked under MY mother's pressure.
. . . .
After a lot of texting and persuading parents, we were all allowed to go, which was remarkable
in itself, as my parents never let me go anywhere usually, but my sister had just had a
school holiday, and my other sister just bought a new antique violin - god knows why it
needed to be antique- and seeing as this was a reasonably last minute deal, the violin was
acctually more expensive than the holiday. Plus my grandmother is very persuasive.
We all agreed to meet at the park, as if the guys took in the money the next day, we should
all get places. That was the hope anyway.
. . . .
For some reason, Gerard thought that I was the best person to give all the money to. I sprinted
into school and past the office. I then realised I needed to go to the office. I turned
around and sprinted back the other way, skidding in front of the office and then falling
over. I was a regular to the office, for all the plasters for my lip, so they all knew my name.
"Morning Bob..." Said the office lady, not looking up from her computer.
"Morning...." I said weakly from the floor. I got up, straitened up and asked Brenda:
"I've got 10 lots of money for the Antigua trip. My friends thought i would be the most
reliable."
Brenda laughed. "I think there are 10 places left, but i'm not sure... I'll just check."
"Thanks Brenda." I waited. And waited. Five minutes later, it was clear that the computer
had crashed.
"The computer's crashed." Brenda said. "Come back at break, and i'll tell you if you can
all go." I was suddenly a nervous wreck. I was on edge waiting for break to come, as i
wanted it to be a trip for all of us. I realised, I didn't want to go if we couldn't all go...
It was a strange feeling.
