Casey held a death grip on the seatbelt of Pete’s car, and the thought of tucking and rolling kept popping through her mind as Pete drove to his parent’s house. She knew he had put the child lock on her door to keep her from getting out at a red light, and he had the window lock on, so she was pretty much fucked on getting out and running. She didn’t want to let his parents know she was expecting and she had actually gotten on her knees and hugged his waist to beg him to change his mind, but nope, they were heading there.

“Couldn’t we just tell them after the baby is born so they can’t have a fit before?” She suggested, earning a look from Pete that made her pout.

“Casey, my mom is going to be thrilled that she’s go-”

“And your Dad?” Casey asked, interrupting him. “I’m sorry to cut you off hon, but did you maybe forget what he said about me even getting pregnant when he actually talked to me for the first time?”

Pete frowned as he pulled up to a red light. “Casey, he loves you now. Everyone there can see it, so he might be okay with us having this baby. He might not be happy it’ll make him feel older, but he’ll be happy to see me finally starting an actual family Casey... It’s going to be okay, alright?” When Casey gave a timid nod, he leaned over and kissed her temple, running his fingers through her hair. “Smile for me.”

Casey looked at Pete and smiled when he sneered at her. “Cheater.”

“And yet you love me,” he playfully shot back, only to have Casey lightly shove his shoulder, making him laugh as the light turned green and he continued the drive to his home. “If you didn’t love me you wouldn’t be carrying my child.”

“It was forced on me,” Casey said with an insulted tone that made Pete skid to a halt at the stop sign near his home. When he turned a confused and upset look at her she broke out in a gigle fit that made him release a heavy sigh of relief he hadn’t been aware he was holding.

“Don’t do that to me!” He exclaimed as he put his hand to his chest even though a small smile played on his lips.

“Sorry, I couldn’t resist,” she managed to get out through her laughter as he continued driving. Her laughter quickly died when she realized they were now sitting outside of his home. “You know what? I don’t feel too good.”

“Casey...” He said, looking at her. She pouted as he got out of the car and walked around to her side. When he got to her door to open it, he lifted a warning brow at her when he found the door locked and she was smiling innocently. Unfortunately for her he had predicted this and had the keyless entry in his free hand. He hit the button and quickly opened the door before she could relock it. “Now who’s the cheater?” He grinned slightly as she climbed out of the car.

“You know, if I was far enough along I would swear my stomach doing flip-flops was the baby moving,” she muttered as she walked up the door with him. She stood there, unwilling to open the door, turning her eyes to look at Pete, who was suddenly frozen next to her, an unsure look in his own eyes. “You know, I don’t think they saw us... It’s not too late to turn and run?”

Pete came out of his trance and shook his head as if to shake himself out of it more as he lifted his hand and grabbed the doorknob, turning it and pushing the door open. He held her hand as they walked in and were greeted by Hemingway, who attacked Pete’s pant leg, making Casey giggle. “I got him right before you went to Florida, I guess he’s still mad at his Daddy for leaving him with Mom and Dad,” he said as he bent down and picked up the squirming puppy.

“I did tell him to attack you as soon as you came home,” a voice said from the kitchen before Peter poked his head out, smiling when he saw the two, shooting his son a look though, for leaving such an attention-craving dog behind for so long. He gave another smile at Casey, which calmed her a little, before he disappeared back into the kitchen.

“Thanks Dad,” Pete grumbled as he ruffled the short fur behind Hemingway’s ears. He set the puppy back down, chuckling as Hemingway ran off and attacked the small pile of dog toys Pete bought for him. He took Casey’s hand in his own and led her into the kitchen, where he was shocked to see his brother and sister there with his Mom and Dad. “Is something going on that I didn’t know of?”

“No, I just stopped by to show off the ring on my finger,” Hilary said as she held up her hand, wiggling her ring finger.

“You mean you found someone that’s-”

“Congratulations Hilary,” Casey said, cutting off the nasty comment she was sure her own future husband was about to say. “That’s awesome,” she smiled.

Hilary smiled at the look on Pete’s face before she made her way to Casey and hugged her. “Thank you Casey,” she said as she pulled away. “I’m glad I found a guy like him. And thank you for cutting off my brother’s comment.”

“Anytime,” Casey giggled as she looked at Pete who pouted at her.

“So, we have all of the family here, why don’t we just have a family cookout?” Andrew suggested as he looked at everyone in the kitchen. Truth be told he was starving and Peter’s barbeque food was always worth waiting a couple of hours for.

“You know what? I think I actually agree with you,” Pete said as he looked at his brother. “But the thing is, Hilary’s not the only one here because she has some news to tell you guys,” he said as he turned his attention to his Mom and his Dad.

Casey, who had been looking at Hilary’s ring as Hilary told her about how her boyfriend, now fiancé, had proposed, looked up at Pete as he slid his arm around her waist, his hand going for her own. She fought the urge to run and flee as he gently grabbed her hand and lifted it up showing the ring on her ring finger. She tensed when she saw the shocked expressions on the four of the five faces around her, afraid of what would be the first words said.

“Holy fuck you proposed!”

Pete turned an annoyed look at his brother, who with his small afro reminded him of Joe, making the urge to hit his head even more tempting. “Yes, I proposed to her,” Pete said, his tone warning Andrew to pick his jaw up from the floor. He looked to his Mom in time to have her rush to him and Casey and hug him tightly and then hug Casey, making Pete smile as Casey glanced at him, smiling.

“How long have you guys been engaged?” Hilary asked as she took Casey’s hand in her own and looked at the ring with curiosity. “And what kind of stone is that?” She asked, tilting her head slightly.

“He proposed to me down in Florida,” she answered, as she smiled slightly, thinking about that day. “And it’s a Mystic Fire Topaz. I’m not a huge diamond fan,” she explained as Hilary nodded in understanding.

“It is a very gorgeous gem,” Mrs. Wentz said as she inspected the ring from her spot next to Hilary.

Pete looked at his Dad, who looked like he was inspecting Pete with a serious expression on his face. Pete worried what the look on Peter’s face was about, but he didn’t let it show as he smiled at his Dad, acting oblivious to the look he was getting. “You should come look at it Dad,” he said.

Casey looked up as Peter moved over to her and looked at the ring on her hand when the two women moved from their position of hovering over her. She glanced to the side to see Andrew looking over Peter’s shoulder with interest. When Peter looked up at her, and then to his son, he smiled and pulled her into a soft hug, having no idea how relieved she was of the fact that he hadn’t thrown her out of the house.

“I know I’ve said it once before, but welcome to the family Casey,” Peter said as he pulled away and looked at his son. “If you fuck this up-”

“Understood sir,” Pete said as he slid his arm back around Casey’s waist. “Actually... I’m kind of hoping I won’t fuck this up for more than the reason of I love her...”

“Did you knock her up or something?” Andrew asked, obviously joking by the smile and teasing tone in his question.

Pete cleared his throat with a nervousness that gave away he truth and he looked at his Mom when she gasped. “I wouldn’t say... Knocked up... Per se... But yes, Casey and I are going to have a family together.”

“You poor girl,” Hilary said as she put a comforting hand on Casey’s shoulder. “Now you have to deal with two of them,” she said with a laugh as she ducked from the towel Pete had grabbed and thrown at her head.
