Casey sighed softly as she relaxed on Pete’s bed with him laying behind her, one arm wrapped securely around her waist with his hand on her stomach, his other arm bent under his head. The day had gone a lot better than she had expected, and the barbeque food had eased her hungry for two stomach into a sweet submission that left her feeling a little tired. She snuggled back into his chest and enjoyed the slight rumble in his chest as he laughed quietly. “What’s so funny?”
“The look on Dad’s face when I called him grandpa,” Pete answered before he started laughing, not so quietly as before. “I think I saw the first patch of greys kick in,” he choked out before laughing harder.
Casey covered her mouth to contain her laughter, though it failed and she found herself laughing into her hand because she had to admit, the look on Peter’s face had been amusing when Pete had said, “Don’t eat too much Grandpa, you might clog your arteries.” Casey shook her head as her light laughter subsided and she looked over her shoulder at Pete, only to see the top of his head since he had his face in her shoulder as he laughed. “Are you done yet?” She giggled.
Pete looked up at her and chuckled before he kissed her cheek. “Yeah, I’m done... Hey Casey?”
“Hmm?” She yawned softly and snuggled deeper into his arms.
“I think we need to talk about something,” he said as he kissed the side of her head. “Nothing bad, just something that came to mind is all.”
“What is it baby?” She asked as she turned over in his arms and looked up at him.
“Well... We’re engaged, going to be married, and we have a baby on the way... Maybe we should look into getting a place of our own, you know? What do you think?” He looked down at her when he was done speaking.
“I think it would only make sense for us,” she said with a small giggle as she ran her fingers through the hair that was starting to reach the bridge of his nose. “But the question is where do we move to? I want to stay somewhat close to work so I won’t have to commute very far, but other than that I really don’t care where we move to.” She smiled when he bent his head down and lightly brushed his lips against her own.
“Think we can go house looking tomorrow then?” He asked as he played with a couple of hairs that escaped her pony tail. When she nodded, he let her snuggle into his chest before he buried his face in her hair, inhaling her scent. “Oh... Dear God...”
“What’s wrong baby?” She asked as she pulled back, looking up at his scared expression with a look of worry. “Pete, what’s wrong?”
“Do I have to be around when you tell Dolly?” He asked, the most pitifully scared look entering his eyes that she had yet to have seen.
Casey stared at him for a moment before a grin slowly spread across her face, a grin he didn’t like to see at this moment. “Actually, yes. You do have to be there, it’s only fair,” she answered as she reached up and lightly brushed her hand across his cheek and then proceeded to lightly pat it as he pouted. “Sorry baby, I had to be there with your Dad, you have to be there with Dolly. I think that’s pretty fair, don’t you?”
Pete grumbled and nodded, admitting that she was indeed right. They had told her grandmother over the phone together, told his father with her there when she hadn’t wanted to be, it would only be fair for him to be there when she told Dolly the good news. “Yeah, you’re right... Even though I hate to say it right now,” he said with a pout.
“It can wait a day or two hon,” she said with a small smile as she lightly kissed his chin. “I do have to wonder though, how are Jasper and Hemingway going to react to each other?” She giggled. “Jasper’s never been around dogs before. I got him when I came here from Florida so he never had to meet Mom’s dog.”
“That is a good question seeing as how Hemingway hasn’t been around cats before,” Pete said with a thoughtful look on his face.
Casey took the chance of having him distracted to slide her cold hand under the hem of his shirt, making him yelp when her cold fingers hit his hot flesh. She giggled as he squirmed and quickly moved her hand, giggling himself since apparently it had tickling him in the process. “Sorry baby, I couldn’t resist,” she said and laughed when he shot her a pout.
“That was cold,” he pouted, puling the hem of his shirt back down.
“No pun intended I hope,” she said with a giggle that made him roll his eyes.
“Oh aren’t you so pun-tastic?”
“Hey, that’s Shaun’s word,” she said as she made her laughter come down. “I always knew you were a thief,” she said and lightly poked his stomach, only to have him gently grab her wrist.
“I did manage to steal your heart, didn’t I?” He asked, lifting a brow as he stared down at her. They stared at each other before they broke into a fit of laughter, moving apart as the laughter shook their bodies. “Now that couldn’t be resisted,” he laughed.
“How did we get on this string of bad jokes?” She asked through her laughter, trying to wipe the tears of laughter from her face. “It’s horrible,” she giggled.
When their laughter finally tamed down, they curled back up to each other, both grinning still since the laughter was still trying to erupt again, but the urge to laugh had dulled to the point where it could be restrained. Pete rubbed the small of Casey’s back as she slowly rubbed his side, both enjoying the slow rubbing. “We do need to find a place with a big back yard and in a pretty solitary place though,” he whispered before he kissed the top of her head.
Casey looked up at him. “Why’s that hon?”
“Well, if we find out we’re having a girl, I’m going to need the back yard to bury the boys I’m killing when they step foot on my property,” he said, chuckling softly when she rolled her eyes at him. “Seriously though, if we’re in a pretty solitary area, if anyone asks any questions about why they hear gun shots we can just tell them I’m shooting a rabbit or something.”
“Peter, you are not buying a damn gun,” Casey said before she leaned up and kissed him softly.
“The look on Dad’s face when I called him grandpa,” Pete answered before he started laughing, not so quietly as before. “I think I saw the first patch of greys kick in,” he choked out before laughing harder.
