Chapter 13

Patrick’s POV

I opened my eyes and looked at Barbara. I couldn’t believe we had only been together a couple of days. It felt like forever. Barbara opened her eyes and looked at me.

“Good morning.” I smiled at her.

“Hi, how did you sleep?”

“Good. For once I really slept. You have the most comfortable bed or maybe it was you.”

She blushed. I swear it was the most beautiful red I had ever seen.

“What are you doing today?”

“I have class later and I’m meeting Kendra. That’s it. What about you?”

“I was suppose to go in the studio, but I think I’ll call in sick.”

“Oh, your such a bad boy.” She laughed.

“Has anyone told you, you have an adorable laugh.”

“No, I hate my laugh. It’s too loud.”

“Don’t say that. I love it.”

“We should get up.”

“Why? You don’t need to do anything until later and I don’t need to be anywhere. We can stay in bed all day.”

“You sure? I don’t want to screw anything up for you.”

“You won’t. I didn’t even tell them I was coming in. Brendon knew I had a date so I’m assuming he knows what happened.”

“Yeah, about that. I usually don’t sleep with guys I first meet. I have never gone into bed after meeting a guy two days before.”

“I understand. I feel so close to you. You already are very special to me.”

There was a knock on the door.

“Who could that be?” I asked.

“I don’t know. Why don’t you go in the shower and I’ll be there shortly.”

“Oh, very nice.”

Barbara got out of the bed and put her robe on.

“I guess I should of asked you if that would be alright. Maybe you don’t want to shower together.”

“What do you think?”

She smiled at me.

“Well, go then.”

She kissed me and I went to the bathroom. I took off my shirt and boxers. After turning on the water I climbed in and quickly washed my hair and washed up. I thought it was odd Barbara wasn’t in the bathroom. After waiting a few more minutes and standing in cold water, I decided to get out. I dried off and wrapped the towel around me. I went out to the living room and seen Barbara sitting on the couch.

“Patrick, I think you should leave.”

“Who was at the door?”

“Jeff.”

“Did he hurt you?”

“Of course. When doesn’t he? Only it wasn’t with his hands. I really want you to leave. This all was a mistake.”

I sat next to her.

“Do you really think that?”

“Uh, I don’t know. He said you wouldn’t ever love me. Rock stars go for beautiful, blonde hair and blue eyes, model types. What am I? I’m overweight, shy, brown hair, short,”

I kissed her. I wanted to take every word that Jeff said to her back.

“Stop it.” She pushed at me.

“Sweetheart,”

“No. Please just leave me.”

I got up and changed my clothes. I walked back to the living room.

“Barbara, I’ll call you later.”

“Don’t.”

“I’m leaving, but we need to talk. You need to open your eyes and look at me. Do I look like the typical rock star? I’ll talk to you. Bye.”

I left before she could say anything. I went to my apartment and changed into some fresh clothes. Then I went to the studio. I didn’t want to see Brendon, but I knew I had to. Ryan and him were working on a song. I sat down and worked on mixing some songs that were almost done.

“Patrick, how are things?” Brendon asked as he sat down.

“Alright. Trying to deal with an ex boyfriend that has shit for brains.”

“Want to talk about it?”

“Everything was fine this morning. I wasn’t going to come in and well, he shows up and ruins everything. Tells her a bunch of crap. How I would never love her and things like that.”

“Did you talk to her?”

“I tried. She wanted me to leave right away. I’m going to call her later. How are you and Kendra?”

Brendon’s POV

“How are you and Kendra?” Patrick asked me.

I could tell he was hurting and I didn’t want him to hurt anymore, but I wanted to tell someone.

“I think I’m going to ask Kendra to marry me.”

He stopped with the mixing board.

“Really? That’s great.”

“I’m still thinking about it.”

“What made you want to get married?”

“I’ve been just thinking about everything we’ve been through and how close I was to lose her. I don’t want to. She means everything to me. I want to share my life with her. I came to realize I love her. I knew I did, but I know I love her. God, I’m not making sense.”

“No, you are. I hope I find someone to really love.”

“I know you will. There is someone for you. I actually think Barbara might be her.”

“You might want to tell her that.”

Patrick gave a funny laugh.

“Come on, give her a little bit of time. You know it’s only been a couple of dates. I know I was insecure when I first dated Kendra. Show her you really care.”

“Your probably right.”

“I want to ask if you want to go to the jewelry store with me?”

“Sure. We can go now. I really need to get out.”

@~

Patrick and I went to the nearest jewelry store. I went to look at the engagement rings and Patrick went to look at some jewelry.

“Sir, can I help you?”

“Yeah. I’m looking for an engagement ring.”

“We have some here. We have quite a variety.”

I looked down and seen a heart shaped diamond ring. I thought it was perfect.

“Can I see that one?”

“Sure. We just got these in the other day.”

I took the ring and knew it would be perfect for Kendra. I turned around to ask Patrick what he thought. He was checking out and has his phone out.

“What do you think?”

“I love it. I just want to ask my friend.”

Patrick came over.

“What do you think?”

“It’s beautiful. I know she will like it. I’m sorry, but I have to go. I just got a call from Barbara.”

“Alright. Thanks for coming. Good luck.”

“I’ll need it. When are you planning on asking Kendra?”

“Not sure. I’m kind of thinking maybe tonight.”

“Congratulations.”

“Thanks.”

Patrick left and I paid for the ring. I then knew I would ask Kendra tonight. I was going to go and make supper. I knew Kendra was going to get some art supplies. And knowing her she would be there forever. I went home and started to make Tofu-Spinach Lasagna. After getting it in the oven I went to shower and changed. I started setting the table when I heard the front door open.

“Brendon, are you home?”

Kendra’s POV

I hung up my jacket and went to the living room.

“Yeah.”

I heard from the kitchen. Next thing I know Brendon is standing in front of me.

“Why are you dressed up?”

He had black jeans and a white dress shirt. Did I mention the jeans were tight? How I loved those jeans on him.

“I thought we could have a romantic dinner at home.”

I stood up.

“That sounds good.”

I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him.

“Have I told you lately I love you?”

“A few hours ago. Go shower and change. I have a few things I still need to do.”

“Okay. I want to show you all the art supplies I got.”

Oh, can’t wait.”

I picked up my bag and headed for the bedroom.
“Try and sound a little more enthusiastic.”

I heard him laughing. I went and took a shower. I decided to wear a dark purple skirt and a white shirt. I went to the dining room. It was dark except for the candles.

“Brendon, where are you?”

“Right here.”

He came out with a pan and put it on the table. He walked to me and put his hands on my waist.

“What are we having? One of your Vegan meals?”

“Yes. If you must know. It’s Tofu-Spinach Lasagna.”

“It sounds good.”

“It is. Anyway, you are beautiful. Why don’t you sit down. I have to get the wine.”

He kissed me and pulled out my chair for me to sit in. After Brendon came back we ate and then cleaned up. We ended up in the living room. He refilled my glass.

“Bren, are you alright?”

“Actually, no.”

He gave me a smile.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing really. Just nervous.”

He put his glass down and took my hands.

“I’ve been thinking the last few days how much we’ve been through and how much you mean to me. I love you. I know I did before, but I know I really do.”

“I love you too.”

He took something out of his pocket and got on his knee.

“Kendra, will you marry me?”

I looked at Brendon and I couldn’t say anything.

Barbara’s POV

After Patrick left I broke down. I hated how Jeff could still get to me and I drove Patrick away. The phone rang and I went to answer.

“Hello?”

“Barbara, it’s Kendra. I just wanted to make sure we were on today after class.”

“Sure. I’ll meet you in class.”

“Okay. Are you alright?”

“Yeah. I’ll talk to you later.”

After I hung up I took a shower and got dressed. I worked on the drawing of Patrick. I decided to leave and get to class early. After class Kendra and I went to a restaurant. We ordered and she wanted to know what was going on.

“Patrick stayed last night.”

“Oh, you should be happy.”

“I was. Until Jeff showed up. That’s my ex. He told me stuff and I shouldn’t, but I believed him. I told Patrick to leave. I feel awful. We were going to have a great day and I ruined it.”

“What did Jeff say?”

“How Patrick wouldn’t love me. He would want a beautiful blonde model type.”

“Are we talking about the same Patrick Stumph? He’s not like that. Give him more credit than that.”

“I should of know. It’s just it’s happened before.”

“You need to talk to him. Let Patrick know how you are feeling. He’ll understand.”

“Thanks. I’ll talk to him when we’re done. I’m sorry to bring you my problems.”

“It’s fine. That’s why I’m here.”

“We talked some more. After we ate we said our goodbyes and I went to my car. I decided to call Patrick.

“Hello?”

In one word he sounded so depressed.

“Patrick, it’s Barbara. I was wondering if you can come over for supper?”

“Are you upset with me?”

“It was never you. I’m so sorry. Will you forgive me?”

“I don’t know if I should.”

I could tell he was teasing.

“Please. I’ll make anything you want.”

“Anything?”

“You name it.”

“How about Sweet Chicken wraps?”

“Alright. Want to be at my place around 7:00?”

“Okay. See you then.”

I hung up and went to the grocery store and then home. I started on some homework and then supper. I wanted everything perfect.

The doorbell rang and I went to answer it.

“Hi.” Patrick said as he hugged me.

“I’m sorry. I was a fool.”

He walked in and gave me some daisy’s.

“Thank you. I love them. Come with me to put them in a vase.”

“What changed your mind?”

“I talked to Kendra. I don’t know why I believed Jeff. Your not like that.”

I put the vase on the table and kissed Patrick. He ran his hands up my sides.

“Not yet. We need to eat.” I smiled at him.

“I got you something else.”

He handed me a box.

“Let’s go to the living room, so you can open it.”

He took my hand and we sat on the loveseat. I unwrapped the box and lifted the lid. Inside was a necklace with a locket.

“Oh my god. Patrick, this is too much. I can’t take it.”

“No, I want you to have it. We need to get some pictures to put in there.”

He was moving too fast. But hell, we slept together. How much faster could we get.

“What’s wrong?”

“I just think we are moving too fast. We should of never slept together. Here. I can’t take this.”

I got up and went to the kitchen.
