Chapter 12
Brendon’s POV
I woke up early and went to my laptop. Patrick sent me the music and I played around with it for awhile. I felt arms around my neck.
“Good morning, Brendon.”
I turned around and kissed Kendra.
“How did you sleep?” I asked her.
“Good. What are you going to be doing today?”
“I want to work on this song with Ryan and Patrick. And maybe do some recording. What about you?”
“I need to call Barbara. I’m going to see if she wants to meet for coffee. I wouldn’t blame her if she didn’t want to though.”
“I hope she does. How are you doing with the whole situation.”
“Alright. I need to realize that Patrick needs to move on. I don’t want to be with him, but I can’t expect him to be alone. Okay, this is strange talking about this with you.”
“We need to talk about it. I really think we are moving on. Do you think so?”
“I think so. I really want to get on with our lives.”
“I think we can.”
Kendra kissed me.
“Oh crap. I have to go.”
She continued to kiss me.
“You sure?”
“Um, yeah. I’d love to stay home with you.”
“I’d like that.”
She kissed me one final time.
“You better get ready.”
“Alright.”
I got up and took a shower. I quickly got dressed and went to the kitchen.
“I’m getting ready to go. If you need anything, just give me a call.”
“Alright. I love you.”
I bent down and kissed her before I left.
I walked into the studio.
“Hey, Patrick. I got the music this morning.”
He turned around.
“Did you like it?”
“Yeah. I put it together with the words and I think it really matches. I need to talk to Ryan though.”
“Okay. Just let me know if you want me to do anything.”
“I’m really sorry about last night.”
“Are you?”
“What? Of course.”
“You see, I really don’t think you and Kendra want me to be happy.”
“That’s just not true.”
“Brendon, I need your help.”
“You better go to Ryan.”
“We’re not done talking.”
I left Patrick by the mixing board. He might have been right though. Did I want him happy? I couldn’t truthfully answer that question.
~@
“Are you alright?”
I looked at Ryan. I never kept anything from him.
“It’s getting better. Just the same old stuff.”
“Are you still wanting Patrick?”
I didn’t answer right away.
“I do, but I don’t. I know that doesn’t make any sense. I don’t know what to do anymore? I really think Kendra and I are moving on, but something’s are still getting in our way.”
“We are almost done here. Maybe after you go back to Vegas things will get better.”
“I hope your right. I want to be friends with Patrick, but things are so messed up right now.”
“To me, it sounds you all are moving on.”
"We are. Patrick went on a date last night.”
I looked over to see Patrick staring at me.
Kendra’s POV
After Brendon left I decided to call Barbara. There was no answer. I figured she was either in class or working. I decided to try the café. I didn’t know where she worked, but I knew there was one a few blocks away from the apartment. I walked to the café. Walking in I seen her talking to a guy. I could tell they knew each other. Next thing I seen was the guy kiss her. I wanted to leave and tell Patrick, but I doubt that he would of believed me. Once the guy left I walked over to Barbara.
“What the hell do you want?”
“Barbara, I was wondering if we could talk?”
“I think you said everything last night.”
“I’m really sorry. Please. Do you have a break soon?”
“Yeah. Actually, I do right now.”
“I won’t be long.”
“Fine. Let me check out.”
I went and found a booth. A few minutes later she sat across from me.
“Well, what did you want to say?”
“I don’t know why I said those things. I mean, I do. But I shouldn’t of. I care for Patrick. There won’t ever be anything between him and I.”
“That’s nice to know.” She said it sarcastically.
“I want us to be friends. I’m truly sorry for what I said. Please forgive me.”
“I don’t know. I want to. I would love to have a friend.”
“I’ll try to watch my mouth. It gets me into trouble. Just ask Brendon.” I smiled.
“Alright. Besides Patrick, I really don’t know anyone.”
“Do you want to go out for lunch tomorrow? We can go after class.”
“Sure. That sounds like fun.”
“Can I ask you something? You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to. Who was that guy?”
“It’s really none of your business. But it’s an ex boyfriend. I haven’t talked to him in a few months. He just came here for a coffee.”
“You’re right. I just don’t want Patrick to get hurt again. Both Brendon and I hurt him.”
“I’m not going to hurt him. If you want to be my friend you need to trust me and information between Patrick and I is between us.”
“I understand. I’m just looking out for him.”
“I know. I really need to go. I have to eat lunch before I go back.”
“Alright. See you tomorrow.”
I gave Barbara a hug and walked out of the café.
“Kendra.”
I turned around. Patrick was there.
“What?”
“You didn’t say anything to Barbara did you?”
“No. I apologized and we are going out for lunch tomorrow.”
“Please don’t screw this up for me.”
“I won’t. She’s about to eat. You better go in.”
“Okay. Bye.”
Patrick’s POV
I walked into the café and sat in the booth.
“Patrick! I didn’t expect to see you.”
“I had a little break and thought I would see you. How is your day?”
“Good. Kendra just stopped by.”
“Yeah. I seen her. I really didn’t talk to her yet.”
“You don’t need to. We talked about things.”
“Are you alright? She didn’t say anything did she?”
“No. My ex, Jeff, came by too. He wanted to tell me that he’s getting married? Like I said last night I’m over him, but it still hurts.”
“I understand. When are you done?”
“In two hours. I don’t have class. It was cancelled. Why?”
“How about I come and pick you up. We can go to the store and get some stuff for supper and spend the rest of the day together.”
“I don’t want to get you into trouble.”
“You won’t. come on. It will be fun.”
“Alright. I have to get back to work.”
She stood up and I followed.
“I’ll be here in a couple hours. If you think of some things you want write them down.”
“Alright. See you later.”
I’m usually shy around girls I’m just starting to date, but for some reason not Barbara. I placed my hands on her hips and pulled her into me. She wrapped her arms around me and I placed my lips on her and kissed her. I licked her lips.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t be moving so fast.”
“Don’t be. I really have to get back though.”
“See you later.”
I went back to the studio. I sat by my computer to finish some things.
“You look happy.”
I looked up and seen Brendon.
“Yeah. I just went to see Barbara.”
“How is she doing?”
“Good. Kendra was leaving when I got there.”
“She wanted to apologize.”
“They are going out tomorrow.”
“Good. Patrick, are we alright.”
“I guess so. Why?”
“I don’t know. Never mind. Talk to you later.”
The next two hours went on forever. Finally, I left and went to the café. Barbara was just getting out from the back.
“Puncual. I like it.”
“I would have been here a few hours ago. Are you ready to go?”
“Yeah. I really didn’t know what we should have, so I didn’t get a list made.”
“Do you like fish?”
“Yeah.”
“I know a great fish market. I’ll make you supper tonight.”
“And you can cook? There must be some dark secret.”
“You already found it out.”
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean anything by it.”
She took my hand and we walked to my car.

“You go lay down and I can make supper.”
“You don’t know where anything is.”
“I can find it. Now, go.”
I pushed Barbara to her bedroom.

I was about finished when the phone rang.
“Hello?”
“Um, is Barbara there?”
“She’s resting. Can I take a message?”
“Who is this?”
“Her boyfriend. Now what do you want?”
“Funny, she didn’t mention you.”
“Is this Jeff?”
“How did you guess?”
“Patrick, I can take it.”
I turned around and Barbara was there.
“You sure?”
“Yes.”
I handed her the phone.
“I’ve told you not to call. How did you get my number? Okay, I’m hanging up. Bye.”
She turned to look at me.
“I’m sorry about that. I should of known he now thinks I want him back in my life.”
“It’s fine.”
“So, you’re my boyfriend?”
I could feel myself getting red.
“Uh, well, I was hoping I was. I know we have only gone on one date. Which was a disaster.”
“I’d love to be your girlfriend.”
Barbara’s POV
I ran into his arms and he smiled at me.
“Really?”
“Yes, I feel as though I have known you my whole life.”
“Same here. You already mean a lot to me. Is everything alright with you and Jeff?”
“Not really. There was something else, Patrick.”
I went to sit on the couch and Patrick sat next to me.
“What is it?”
“He use to beat me. I guess that is why it has taken me so long to get back into dating and right now my heart is saying yes to you and my mind is telling me to run away.”
He wrapped me in his arms.
“I won’t hurt you. I know that probably doesn’t mean much.”
“No. It does, but Jeff said the same thing.”
“What did he want?”
“Even though him and Maureen are getting married he wanted to meet with me. I have no idea why. I just want him to leave me alone.”
“How many times has he contacted you?”
“Just twice. But that’s enough.”
“Let’s forget this for the night. Maybe he’ll get the drift and not call you. If he does, do not meet with him.”
“I won’t.”
“Ready for supper?”
“Sure. Patrick, thank you for everything.”
We had a nice supper and I helped Patrick clean up. It was nice to be with someone again. Especially, not having to worry about saying something wrong. We went for a walk and came back to my apartment.
“Want to watch a movie?”
“Yeah. Anything will be fine.”
I put in a movie and sat next to Patrick. I closed my eyes and when I opened them the movie was over and Patrick was snoring lightly.
“Patrick, Patrick. Wake up.”
He opened his eyes.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to fall asleep.”
“It’s alright. I fell asleep too. Do you just want to stay the night?”
“Oh, really?”
“Not like that.”
“In that case I think I’ll go home.”
“Come here.”
I grabbed his hand and we went to the bedroom.
