We were both staring at each other, and we were both quiet.
“What happened?” Gerard asked quietly.
“What?”
“What happened? There must be a reason you got so defensive.”
I looked away and shook my head.
“I knew this guy for a year. Tyler was his name, I met him while he was visiting his dad in Evansville, thirty minutes away from where I live. And after I knew him for a few months, we started dating. He lives a couple of hundred miles away from me with his mom. But we really liked each other.” I swallowed and continued. “Long distance, but I thought we could do it. Last July he kissed this girl -Opal was her name- It crushed me. But it was okay, because I loved him. Then, in August, he went to a concert with her. And- he…” I chocked back a sob and looked at Gerard in the eye. “He fucked her. Twice, and-” I stopped. Debating on whether or not I should tell him my secret. I opted not to and continued “…That kiss he shared with her in July? They were in the shower together along with some girl named Nichole.”
I couldn’t help but let a few tears fall, along with the tears came an involuntary sob. Gerard got up and came to where I was and wrapped an arm around me. “But I ended up forgiving him sort of. I kept on with our relationship, because I loved him. I loved him so much, Gerard. Then on this past Tuesday, he just completely broke it off with me. He said he did it because I seemed more closed off and-“ I was sobbing at this pointing. Sharing my feelings with a person I met only a few days ago. “He was my first, Gerard. My first love…I lost my virginity to him. The one thing I can only give away once! But that's what stupidity gets you.” I felt Gerard’s grip tightened.
“That’s why this can’t happen, Gerard. I don’t want anyone to go through the pain I went through,”
He sighed, “I know” He agreed and we just sat there with him holding me for about thirty minutes.
“Sorry,” I said as I wiped my sore eyes.
“No it’s fine.” He said. “I’m the one who should be sorry, I guess” He said. “I didn’t mean to put you in that position.”
“No it’s fine.” I said.
We decided to head up to join the other guys. While we were hanging out, Gerard’s phone began ringing.
“MIKEY!” He yelled in the phone. My heart stopped, and I couldn’t help but smile.
The phone was passed around and the Frank handed it to me. I looked at him like he was crazy.
“What the hell am I suppose to do with it?”
”Talk, duh!” Frank said. I heard something that sounded like a laugh come from the phone.
I took warily and placed it on my ear. “Hello?”
“Hello?”
”Hi.” I sounded stupid and hit myself on the head which caused the group to laugh.
“I’m Mikey,”
”I know.” I sounded like a smartass. “Erm, sorry. I’m Andrea.”
”OhhH!!” He said loudly, which cause me to quickly pull the phone away from my ear. “I know about you,” Mikey said.
“You do?” I said looking at the group suspiciously.
“Yea, you’re the girl who got away,” He laughed.
“I suppose.” I said, toying with the word ‘way’ in my head.
“Are they behaving?”
“Pfft, no. Frank puts me through hell. Gerard is…never mind, Ray complains too much, and Bob doesn’t talk enough.” I said smiling at each of the guys who smiled right back. “How’re you?” I asked.
“I’m good. This time off is doing me a lot of good, I think.”
Mikey and I talked for a couple more minutes before I passed the phone back to Gerard.
Later that day while were in the dressing room at the new venue, we were all joking around. Gerard seemed hesitant to talk to me, and when his girlfriend called, he seemed guilty, and he forgot to tell her he loved her when he hung up.
