Kristen wiped a tear from her cheek as she continued to look through the photo album. Starring back at her was Gabe with a goofy smile on his face. He would always make some kind of face when she’d take his picture. That was one of the many things she’d loved about him.
She shook her head and closed the album. She’d honestly thought that things would have turned out different. She thought that by now, she and Gabe would be getting married.
She rolled over on her back and thought back to the day she and Gabe broke up. Cobra Starship had been signed by Fueled by Ramen for six months, and they were starting to climb the fame ladder. There were groupies left and right, women who would love to hook up with Gabe. Even if they wouldn’t have given him a second look if he wasn’t famous. Kristen could tell that he was loving it. He’d never had that kind of attention from girls before. Sure, he’d always assured her that he loved her and would always talk her out of breaking up, saying that he didn’t want to lose her. She hadn’t wanted to lose him either, but she also didn’t want him to resent her or the fact that he passed up his chance to “play the field.” So, she did something she promised him she’d never do. She’d lied.
“I slept with someone.”
She remembered the look on his face. How it changed from love, to confusion, to pain, and then to anger.
“You what?” he’d yelled.

Kristen had practiced the lie so many times that her responses rolled off her tongue.
“I, I slept with someone.”
“Who?”
“Some guy from the bar last night,” she’d answered. “That’s why I cam back to the hotel so late last night.”
She remembered how Gabe had turned away from her and walked a couple of steps away from her. She hadn’t known what to do, what to say at this point. She had expected him to yell some more or something, but he just stood there.
Kristen had walked up to him and touched his shoulder. He’d jerked out of her grasp and looked at her.
“Get out.”
“Gabe….”
“Don’t,” he’d said. “Don’t talk to me. Pack your bags and go home. We’re through.” With that, he walked to the door and opened it. She’d watched him, tears falling down her face, and remembered the harsh words he’d said before he left.
“I don’t want to see your face when I get back.”
Kristen sat up on the bed. Yeah, she’d been in a denial a little bit, hoping that Gabe would play the field, but realize that he still loved her and forgive her of her “indiscretion.” Instead, he’d fallen for one of the girls in the field. Boy what an idiot she’d been.
