Patrick ran for the stairs, panting as he tried to evade his father.
Almost there.
If he got to his room, he would be safe.
A hand caught around his ankle and yanked him downwards. His chin smashed into one of the stairs and his teeth sliced through his lip. Blodd filled his mouth as he cried out in pain. His father had him on the floor and started kicking, punching, getting at any piece of Patrick that he could.
"No! Please!" Patrick sobbed.
His just gave him a final kick, then walked out the front door, slamming it as he left.
"Pete..."
Patrick slipped away into darkness.
