The clouds hung low in the sky, leaving the day dark and grim. Even though it was almost midday, the late September day seemed cold and bleak that it seemed much like late evening. Off in the distance lightning flashed through the air, followed after a brief pause by crackling thunder. Batoy could smell the thick scent of rain almost as soon as he exited his former hiding place. The air was thick and humid yet the draft winds sent shivers down his spine. "Hey, guys... it might get a little dangerous, so you three should rest up..." he said, glancing at the three Pokemon beside him. One by one, the Eevee and the Umbreon vanished under the bright flash of light, and retreated into their respectable red and white sphere. Batoy paused at the Jolteon. "Hey Ollie, could you take this?" he asked, unstringing the crystal from around his neck. ~Joltee!~ it replied, and Batoy tied the red/blue crystal around the Jolteon's neck. It too vanished into the Pokeball.

A sense of loneliness immediately overcame him as he stepped from the base of the massive oak tree. Despite the base having existed among its roots for merely two weeks now, it was still the closest thing the boy could call to home. But now Batoy had to abandon it and move on. Hopefully, he could get to a Pokemon Center without getting caught and contact Lizbeth, but until then, he had to be on his guard. The ground here was uneven, and though Batoy had traversed these grounds before, he still had trouble keeping his balance. More than a few times, his sneakers slipped on the slick bark, sent the youth either tumbling into the wet ground or splashing in a shallow puddle. The graveness of his situation loomed on him. Without his Navigator, something he'd `misplaced' several weeks before, he didn't know where he was going, and was, at the moment, completely lost.

Well, lost wasn't quite the correct term, for as Batoy wandered, several Pokemon downwind of him caught his scent. A sudden rush of barking startled the poor kid, sending him scrambling away. The brush was thick and whipped at his face, but he didn't let it slow him down. Batoy jinked and turned, doing everything in his ability to shake his pursuers. But nothing worked; the barks grew louder and closer. "H-How're... How're they keeping up?!" he mumbled in a hoarse stricken voice. His lungs heaved as he duked and dodged, zigged and zagged. But still they grew closer.

A thick root appeared from nowhere, snagging Batoy's foot and sending the youth sprawling to the ground. He chanced to look straight up. An orange-feathered Noctowl was hovering high above him, its red eyes meeting his own. He gave it no mind and crawled to his feet. Had he been a Pokemon Trainer, he would have cared about such a rare Shiny Pokemon, but his life and freedom was at stake. Such a thing just wasn't important. Scrambling away, Batoy sought out a clear path and poured as much speed into his legs as he could. The barking eventually died away.

The trees thinned out and eventually faded to rocky crags. Batoy came to a gasping halt and sagged against a tall spire of rock. He'd arrived at the Mythical Coliseum, an unofficial battling ground created by passing trainers on the way to Terra long ago. It was a large rough stone field nestled between some of the rocky hills. Large grey stone spires jutted out of the ground, marking the boundaries. Faded white markings marked the various trainer spots. The whole area was famous for the strange markings that covered the stones, but on this particular day, Batoy was not interested. He looked around and sighed, slumping down against one of the spires. "...Whew....Got away..." he gasped. Thunder ripped above him, causing him to wince. The threat of rain loomed in the air. "Gah... rain.... Gotta get to Liz..."

The youth panted for a few more minutes before crawling back to his feet. The first droplets of rain patted his head, and he groaned. A sudden flutter of wings caught his attention, and Batoy turned to see the orange Noctowl settle atop one of the far spires. He glanced at it curiously, and it responded likewise. "Weird... wild Noctowl aren't supposed to be here... eh... I don't care... I gotta find a way to get outta here before it starts pouring again..." Shrugging the Noctowl off, Batoy turned to leave. But he hadn't taken a single step before the owl's hoot and another voice left him frozen.

"Batoy Guilderos, you are under arrest for the theft and possession of Weatherite. Hand over the crystal and put your hands on the ground!" The sharp masculine voice caught the poor boy completely by surprise, and Batoy spun around. In front of him, leaning confidently against one of the pillars was a tall sturdy man with rich brown hair and a strong chin. His arms were bulky with muscle, and his camouflaged clothes were stretched tight across his broad shoulders and large thighs. His face was aglow with a satisfied smirk.

Batoy's jaw dropped and he staggered back a little. "You... you're one of... one of the...." The name couldn't come to him, but it wasn't necessary. This man was famous, or infamous, depending on whose point of view. He was a member of an organization funded by the Pokemon Association League in order to put a halt to the activities of `Criminal Organizations'. They were extraordinarily tenacious and powerful Pokemon Masters, rumored to be the Champions themselves, and the only thing keeping Batoy's partners alive was their low number. Batoy took another frightened step back until his back pressed against one of the flat rocky hillsides.

"Elite, I believe, is the term you're looking for," he said, the smirk growing ever wider. Bedazzled, Batoy could only slowly nod. "You can call me Hawk." The smirk of the man's face sent shivers down the petrified boy's spine. Such confidence. The man started forward. "Now, if you don't mind. I'll be taking back the Weatherite you stole." He smiled wider this time. "Or, if you want to be stubborn, we could always battle." Emphasizing his point, he drew into his hand a dark indigo ball with an `M' plastered on its front.

Batoy's hand slipped into his pocket, sliding around one of the miniaturized balls. His eyes fixed on the humongous man, Batoy slowly withdrew one of the Pokeballs, his hand shaking slightly. The thought of whatever super-powerful Pokemon could make its appearance weighed heavily in his mind, but even with his fear, his resolve tightened. He had to do this. "I-I'm not gonna give you it..." he stammered. The ball maximized in his hand by instinct. "W-We need it to save the world!"

Hawk's grin vanished, and he seemed to grow in size. His eyes glowered, and Batoy shrank to his vicious stare. What mistake had he made? Hawk shook his head, disappointed and angry. "Feh... you and everyone else, kid. Everyone wants to save a world that didn't need saving in the first place." Words of protest were caught in Batoy's throat. "It was you bastards that bloody screwed up the world to begin with!" The man's mumble had grown into a yell and then a roar. Batoy shrank again. "How disgusting... even brainwashing kids into believing stupid cultist ideals... It's just absolutely disgusting!"

Batoy pressed his back against the wall in fear, the hand holding the Pokeball quivering. The sky flashed as bolts of lightning slashed through the air, leaving booms that caused even the rocks to quiver. His body had frozen completely. Rain had begun to fall heavily now, and the sky was like night. The ball became a heavy weight, but he didn't dare drop it. "B-But.... When Kyogre fought Groudon a few years ago... well... with Groudon dead, it'll rain forever! Wherever Kyogre goes, there will always be rain! The world will drown unless we stop it! With the Weatherite, we can....!" Batoy's plea was cut short by a thunderous clash of thunder.

"You're a bloody moron... you all are.... Ecoterrorists, that's all. You're lucky I'm not in charge of policy, considering how you turned the world on its side. But since it doesn't seem you're going to come quietly, I suppose I'll have to use coercion..." Hawk growled with a bit of bitter satisfaction. He hurled his Masterball forward, and in a massive explosion of blue light, a large beautiful green Pokemon appeared. Its massive body and luscious green skin was instantly slicked by the rain. Massive petals around its neck shimmered and dripped. "Meganium! Ready!" The Meganium gave a shrill roar.

His mind blank with fright, Batoy let loose the Pokeball in his hand, with no knowledge of who he'd sent out. In a far less impressive flash of light, the small Eevee appeared, its fur matted down almost immediately from the pouring rain. It shook itself, whining about the horrid conditions, splashing water around. Batoy paled, his mistake obvious. "Meto? I didn't mean to.... METO, WATCH OUT!!" The Eevee cried out in shock as it leaped to the side, several large razor-sharp leaves slicing into the rock where it stood. It pulled into a skid, its body heaving with each breath as it looked at the gashes in shock. The Meganium had already started the battle! Batoy snapped out of his stupor. "Hey! That's not fair! That's not the Pokemon I wanted!"

"Tough, kid. You chose him, you use him," Hawk said, smiling again. Batoy grimaced. What kind of Elite trainer is this? His pause was costly; the Eevee yelped in shock as a massive vine sprung from the Meganium's neck, ensnaring the Eevee around its waist. It was hoisted high into the air before being hurled. The Eevee slammed into a spire of rock, a sickening smack sounded out over the rain. Batoy grimaced again and glowered at the large man. "This isn't fair! Please stop! Meto's not strong enough yet!" he pleaded.

His pleas went unanswered, drowned out by the roaring wind and pounding rain. The Meganium started from its position, trotting towards the downed Eevee. The small fox stumbled to its paws and growled weakly, casting the briefest of dirty glances towards Batoy. It went unnoticed as the boy stared at the green Pokemon. "Earthquake," Hawk said calmly, but with just the hint of excitement that caused a shiver to run down Batoy's spine. The Meganium rear up on its hind legs and then slammed them down into the stone, causing a massive shockwave to ripple away from it. The wave reached Batoy first, knocking the boy off his feet. He collapsed painfully against the stoned wall. Cracks raced up the side, loosening small rocks that clattered to the ground below.

As the shockwave hit the Eevee, the small creature was tossed up into the air and crashed down painfully. The blow knocked it nearly senseless, and for the longest time, the Eevee laid there, too dazed to even rise to its paws. Hawk remained motionless; the Earthquake passed by him like a light breeze. He smiled again. "Time to finish it, Meganium, Stomp."

The Meganium whistled before trotting over to the nearly disabled Eevee. It raised a single hoof, and brought it down hard. "METO!?!" A yell came from the recovered Batoy, reaching the Eevee just in time for it to roll out of the way. The stomp clipped it, and the Eevee yelped in pain as it staggered off. Meto's not strong enough for this...but... I can't just recall him! I just can't give up when I'm so close! Batoy thought desperately to himself. "Meto! Try to keep away from it as long as possible! Use your Quick Attack!"

Hawk grinned again as the Eevee sped away, a golden stream trailing behind it. The excitement of battle seemed to have taken him. "Meganium! Destroy it!" The Meganium roared again before it charged. Time after time it lashed at the Eevee, but each time, whether it was a Vine Whip or a pillar of rock from the Meganium's Ancient Power, it was narrowly avoided by the Eevee's speed. But the Eevee was slowing down; the pain of its new wounds just too great to bear. After a glancing blow, Eevee stumbled and collapsed. The Meganium charged again.

Batoy scooped a large rock into his hand and clinched his fists. "Don't you hurt Meto anymore!" he screamed as he hurtled the rock as hard as he could. The rock soared through the air, smacking the Meganium's head right under its antenna. The Meganium stopped it charged and glowered at the boy who cowered back. ~Megan....~ it growled before flaring its flower petals. Energy began to gather. Batoy's eyes went wide, and he looked frantically at Hawk. "NO!! Please, don't let it fire! I'll do anything!" His legs were frozen from fright; he wanted to run but couldn't.

The Eevee, crying in pain, leapt up and bit the Meganium's leg, but nothing could stop the charge. The rain pounded across the Meganium's body, and slowly the charge grew brighter and brighter. And finally, a mighty blast flowed from the Meganium's mouth. Its green-tinged yellow hot core ripped through the air, evaporating water instantly. The beam raced towards Batoy and crashed above him, ripping into the stone and knocking the boy off his feet. The beam faded, but the wall was about to collapse. Batoy stumbled to his feet, too dazed to even move. Growing tired of the itch around its ankle, the Meganium flicked its back leg, sending the Eevee sailing through the air. It landed on its back and after it skidded, it did not move.

Staggering to his feet, Batoy suddenly felt a searing pain in his back. A sharp rock had broken from the hillside and sliced into his back. "Guh!!" he cried out, rubbing his back. The boy chanced a glance up. Fissures ripped through the rocky hill, and the whole formation threatened to fall. Bits of shattered rock already constantly fell. "S-Some... please help me..." he whimpered. The plea reverberated in the Eevee's ears, and it growled before stumbling to its feet. As the hillside suddenly collapsed, a strong force smashed Batoy from the side, sending him tumbling out of the way. The heavy rocks smashed into the ground.

Batoy glanced around. "W-Who... was that... Meto?" He looked around, but nowhere could he find the silver-white Pokemon. His gaze fell up the massive pile of rock and stone beside him, and his face paled. "M-Meto?" The massive rocks were far too heavy to move.

A high-pitched whistling sound shot through the air, and Batoy turned in time to see Meganium's powerful Hyper Beam sail through the air. The powerful blue and yellow beam smashed into the pile of rocks. The boy tumbled away from the force. An explosion followed, annihilating most of the hill-wall and the surrounding rocks. The beam faded, leaving crackling residue energy, which also faded, leaving nothing but dust and the sound and sight of rain and thunder. "Meto? Are... you okay?" Batoy said, his choking voice but a whisper. He crawled forward and peered into the newly made cove in the hill. The Eevee lay on its side, unmoving, its eyes closed and a pain expression frozen on its face. Batoy looked with shock. Words choked in his throat. "N-No... Meto... Please Meto, no.... no.... please...." He pleaded to himself. He reached out and stroked the Eevee's soaked coat. It was coarse and soaked, but it lacked warmth and shine. A sudden spasm pained his heart. "Meto..."
