I waited until Gerard was fully asleep before I untangled myself from his arms and quietly crept downstairs. I went into the downstairs bathroom and locked the door, putting on the light. Hesitantly I peeled off my shirt and found the loose end of the bandage, tucked into the rest of it. I began to unwind it. When the bandage was nothing more than a bloodstained pile of rags on the floor I turned around and viewed my back in the mirror. I closed my eyes and swallowed back the bile in my throat at the sight.
My back was covered in bright red, ugly marks, seeping blood and criss-crossing over my back in a disturbing form of art. There was no way that wasn’t going to scar. I began to cry again and cursed myself for it. I’d cried more times in the past 2 and a bit days than I had done in the past year. I was being pathetic.
I turned round and began to run the bath, paying no mind to it being 2 o’clock in the morning. I left the bathroom and went into the kitchen, digging out some tea lights and matches and a bottle of coke and another of vodka before returning to the bathroom and closing the door.
I lit the candles around the room and turned off the main light; instead lighting the tea lights. I grabbed the glass from the side of the sink and rinsed it out before filling it with vodka and coke, sipping it back as I waited for the bath to run. My mind was almost empty; I was in a state of complete numbness and didn’t know what to do with myself. Eventually the bath finished running and I slipped in, the boiling hot water almost scolding me on contact.
I poured myself another drink then spotted the other packet of muscles relaxants on top of the medicine cabinet, I quickly hopped out the bath and grabbed them, swallowing two and chasing them with a vodka and coke before I lay back in the bath. Slowly I felt my eyes grow heavier and my head lolled back against the back of the bath.
The water was cold when I woke up and I could hear a half-heartened insistent bang on the door along with faint sobs. I wrapped a towel tightly around myself and slowly unlocked the door. Gerard was sat curled up by the wall by the door sobbing to himself.
“Gee?” I asked quietly, groggily.
He looked up quickly then scrambled to his feet, lunging forward and hugging me tight despite my protesting body.
“I was so scared Mikey, so scared. I thought I’d lost you when I woke up and you weren’t there and then I came down here and I couldn’t open the door and the bottles were missing and I couldn’t-” Gerard cut himself off, pressing his lips roughly to my own. “God I love you so much, please never do that again. Please.”
“It’s ok Gee,” I assured, slightly freaked out by my brothers actions. “I just fell asleep.”
“Well what the hell were you thinking?” he suddenly cried out, his shock and relief overridden by anger. “You drank vodka in the bath Mikey; it’s not your most sensible moment. And you locked door and turned off the lights. Christ, anything could have happened!”
“So a little lovers tiff eh?” came a voice from the door.
I froze; the temperature in the room and in my body instantly fell. I began shaking uncontrollably and backed up into the wall, pulling the towel tighter around me.
“You fucker,” Gerard hissed, “Get the fuck out of this house!” he yelled as he lunged at Adriann.
“Ah ah ah,” Adrian reprimanded. “Not so fast,” he said, holding out a knife in front of him.
Gerard stopped short, immediately holding his hands up in front of him as if that alone could protect him. I recognised the knife; it was the same one as he had used to mark me. I whimpered almost silently yet the noise was loud enough to be heard and Adriann directed his attention to me, still holding the knife facing Gerard.
“How nice to see you Mikey. I’ve not seen you at school recently. Was our fucking a bit too rough for you? Shall we go a little more gently next time? Maybe you could imagine its Gerard.” He said in a pleasant tone. I was almost sick.
“There isn’t going to be next time you sick bastard.” Gerard growled. Yet in my head I knew that even Gerard would not be able to stop what he wanted to do to me.
Adriann began to prowl over to me, the knife forever pointed at Gerard. “You want your brother to live,” he said. “You’ll do as I tell you.” And before anything could be said or done, Adriann was standing next to me with the knife at my throat. Gerard instantly began to move closer to us. “Stay where you are.” Adriann commanded. And my brother obeyed, looking truly broken as Adriann teased the knife edge against my skin without actually cutting it.
“So pretty.” Adriann said as he ran a hand over my crotch whilst licking my ear and retaining eye contact with Gerard. My tears had long since begun to fall and the made hot tracks down my face. “So beautiful when he cries.”
Gerard’s own tears mirrored my own as he told me with his eyes that we would get through this; that everything would be alright.
Chance would be a fine thing.
I felt a sharp pain in the back of my head.
