"Jessi, truth or dare." Jessica placed her finger on her chin and looked as if she was thinking carefully. Finally she looked back at Benji and answered.
"Dare." Benji smirked and sat forward.
"I dare you to hop around the house on one foot in just your underwear." Jessica groaned but stood up and started taking off her sweater anyways.
"Guys, I think we should quit. This is really boring." Everyone but Benji looked over at me and nodded. Jessica sighed in relief and sat back down on Joel's lap.
"Then what in the world are we going to do Anna?" It was New Years Eve and we were all sitting in a circle, in my front room, playing truth-or-dare. We being Quinn, Jessica, Joel, Benji, Kelly and I.
It was my fault of course. Me being the one to hate parties.
"I say we do some karaoke!" Kelly's suggestion caused everyone to voice his or her protest. She sat back defeated and crossed her arms over her chest. "You guys suck."
"What time is it anyway?" Joel looked at his watch and pouted.
"10:30. We have an hour and a half until midnight." Everyone groaned once again. I stood up and walked into the kitchen. I grabbed some soda out of the fridge and some chips off the counter before walking back into the front room.
"I say we watch a movie." Benji's face lit up as he jumped up from his place seated on the floor and rummaged through his bag.
"I know the perfect one!" He lifted a videocassette over his head and laughed. Joel groaned and got up. After ten minutes of watching them wrestle around on the floor, we were all facing the television and watching Joels five-year-old figure move across the screen.
This is sure one hell of a New Years Eve party.

I patiently waited for bus 55 to resume its voyage to its destination after the last person stepped onto the bus and took their seat.
"I like him." I smiled up at Joel. "Did he ever tell you how he got the money to fly over here?"
"The band played a couple of clubs and they used their gig money to buy him a plane ticket." Joel laughed and stood up, waiting along with everyone else, to get off the bus.
I followed behind Joel and slung my backpack over my shoulders. I never did like going back to school after long breaks. It pretty much sucked. Especially when it meant that Quinn wasn't around.
"Benji want's to start a band." I started laughing and looked over at Joel's twin who was standing a mere four feet away.
"What's so funny Anna?" Benji glared at me and placed his hands on his hips.
"And just exactly who is going to do what in this 'band'?" I said making air quotes.
"I can play guitar and Joel can sing." Benji gave me a 'isn't-it-obvious?' look.
"That's really not a 'band' Benj. That's more of a duo." Benji glared at me once more and shook his head.
"We'd find other people. Duh." I rolled my eyes and began walking toward the school.
Kids these days and their crazy ideas about starting bands.

"Let's play 'Little Things' again." Everyone nodded at Benji's order and started into the song for the fifth time that day.
"The little things, little things, they always hang around." Joel sang into his microphone.
I started laughing. Joel looked at me standing in the entrance to the garage and stopped singing.
"Joel what the fuck?!" Benji smacked Joel on the back of the head and set his guitar down.
"Anna distracted me." Joel turned to me and asked. "How long have you been standing there?"
"Long enough to know the words to 'Little Things'." Benji laughed and walked over to where I was standing.
"So how do you like us?"
"You're not that bad." I said punching him in the arm.
"Not that bad?" I winked at him and sat on the lawn chair in the corner.
"It's missing something." I put my finger on my chin and pretended to think really hard.
"Missing something?! It is so not missing something."
"Eh. Whatever you say. Introduce me to your band." I looked to the two other guys in the garage. One was sitting behind a drum set while the other was strumming a bass guitar.
Joel rolled his eyes and introduced the two.
"Aaron is the guy behind the drums and Paul over there is our bass player. Guys, this is my best friend Anna." I smiled at the two who I had already recognized from school. Aaron and Paul mumbled their greetings and looked back to their instruments.
"So what are we missing Anne?" I laughed.
"I think you need another guitar player. You should start looking for one." Benji looked at me in disbelief but soon changed his expression.
"You're right! You're amazing Anna!" Benji engulfed me in a bear hug and picked me up off the ground spinning me in circles.
I tapped him on the shoulder. "Uhm, Benj. You can put me down now." He reluctantly put me down and began kissing my cheek.
Aaron, Paul, and Joel looked on in amusement.
Who knew telling someone they weren't good enough was a compliment.
