Chapter 3~~~~~~~

A day later. After school.

~~

"FRANK!!!!!!!!" Gerard thundered down the hall.

Everyone was quiet as Gerard Way- The school "Emo" - skipped down the passageway in obvious joy.

"Fag!" Yelled a jock.

"FUCK YOU!" Gerard shouted back.

Finally he reached Frank.

"Guess what!!"

"Ummmmm, you decided to skip down the hall of the most dick-filled school in New Jersey?"

"NO! Er, yes, actually. But no, thats not it."

"Spit it out already."

"Me and Cynthia are going to the park. She's supposed to be here, like, any second. Uh, this is really faggish, but... How's my hair?"

"It's-"

Frank was cut off by Cynthia's sudden appearance.

"It's fine, Gerard." Cynthia said, smiling.

"How the hell did you hear that?" Gerard asked nervously.

"I have my ways." Cynthia smiled mysteriously.

"Right-oh then. Shall we be off to the park?

"Yup."

Cynthia's POV- kind of.

you're such an idiot. why did you do that? now he thinks your some weird freak. don't blow this friendship thing, Cynthia, don't!!! He's your only chance of friendship. Just remember what you read online about making friends.

Interrupting her thoughts suddenly, Gerard's honeylike voice penetrated Cynthia's thoughts.

"So, when we get to it, theres this pipe. You have to walk accross it to get to the park- so do you want me to go first? I can show you when it's safe to jump off if you want, because the bottom part is covered with leaves, and you really can't tell when it stops."

Honeylike? Cynthia! You can't get hurt again. DO NOT fall for him. you can't! Her insides screamed. Just, don't flirt. at all. Love is mathematical- say the right things you get the right answer. Say the wrong things and you get something else. So lets change it to... Friendship?

"Ummm.... Hello," Gerard stared. "Anyone home?"

"Oh, err, sorry. I zoned out for a second. Uh, yeah, you go accross first." Cynthia stuttered a bit. "I'm rather afraid of hieghts."

The rest of the walk passed in silence until the got to the pipe.

"Gerard! you didn't tell me it was over WATER!" Cynthia yelled over the noise of the creek.

"Sorry! I kind of forget- I'm use to walking accross and i never look down." Gerard replied nervously.

"We might have an issue." Cynthia said as she inched her way on. As she walked, she felt a bit off balance- like her left side was just a bit heavier than her right. Her Feet suddenly slipped, and, without a sound, she found herself clinging to the pipe by one of several steel bars on the end. Thank god that was there. she thought thankfully. otherwise there would have been nothing to hang onto.

Her relief was short lived as she saw that there were no foot or handholds for at least three feet.

"Uh, Gerard?!" She yelled shakily.

"Yeah, i know. Whatever you do, don't let go- there's a rock right under your head and you'll get knocked out." He said simply, inching his way to her side.

Grabbing her legs, he held them in place, stabilizing her lower half and allowing her to get a better grip on the pipe.

"Okay, i'm going to pull you back to the other side where you can put your legs down." He yelled over the sound of the rushing water below.

As he inched backward, her body pulled along by his, Gerard felt a strong sense of protectiveness over the girl.

Finally they reached the point where they had started.

Cynthia let her legs drop and walked back up to the pipe, her hands sporting several blisters from the metal.

"Uh, what now?" She said, trying to recover from the embarrassment of the situation.

"Well, I dont think you can walk accross, and you can't crawl, because of the blisters. so stand right there." Gerard pointed to the pipe, at a point where the ground started sloping downward and the pipe began its short stretch accross the water.

She stood, and Gerard went to the ground below it. Picking her legs up first, he cradled her close and began walking. At first, of course, she struggled against his grip, but halted after he stated that if he fell off, she would too.

After a couple moments, Gerard reached the other side and continued to walk down a small, fall-tree lined path. He dropped her off in a swing.

"Well, that was fun." He said, smiling.

"Not really. I've just been cradled and carried like a 6 yr old." Cynthia said grumpily.

"I don't know, I think someone may have anjoyed it a little."

"Did not."

"Did too."

"Whatever."

The next few minutes were silence as both of them thought about what had happened.

"So, what's up?" Cynthia asked awkwardly.

"I don't know. But I think we might need to find a pipe-free location to hang out."

"Yeah. Most likely."

"So you wanna go to the mall sometime?"

"Now you're talking. Malls are how I roll."

Gerard laughed.

"So, mall on friday, then? after school?" Gerard asked.

"Yeah, that might end better." Agreed Cynthia.

A/N

JUST so you know-

The pipe thing was based on something that happened to me about 5 or 6 weeks ago. You're probably picturing a long-ass thin little pipe thirty feet high.

NOPE. Picture a pipe with a diameter of about three feet. Its only about 8 feet long. It's about 4 or 5 feet above the water. Theres a secluded path on one side, and a tree-lined wide path on another.

Me and my friend were crossing it and i slipped right before i got to the end- I had to cling like a cat before she could grab one of my legs and help swing me over and crawl the rest of the way. It sucked arse. People still tease me about my balance- or lack thereof.

VERY scary because there was a rock like 3 feet below me and the sharp edge was right where my head would have hit, lol.
