SCENE EIGHT.

(Lights up on Reba and Diane, having cosmos at Reba's house)

REBA. I'm really starting to like this cosmo night every Wed.
DIANE. Me too.
REBA. So, how was your week?
DIANE. Good. I got promoted.
REBA. Haha, very funny.
DIANE. No, really.
REBA. Seriously?
DIANE. My boss really liked my portfolio and he felt I was beyond my internship, so he just...bumped me up.
REBA. That's great. Wow.
DIANE. Yeah, I know.
REBA. Maybe I should give South Square Designs a shot. I mean, I do have a minor in interior design...I didn't think I'd have to use it, but I'm getting no where as a secretary right now and the pay sucks.
DIANE. ...Yeah.
REBA. Yeah what?
DIANE. I mean, it's just hard to get a good position down there.
REBA. Well, you did it, how hard could it be? You did it in a week.
DIANE. I got lucky.
REBA. What are you saying? Are you saying my work's not good enough?

(No response)

REBA. Are you saying I suck? I'm pretty sure that's what I'm hearing.

(Diane sips her cosmo and looks away. Lights down)
