  Though I dare say that Commander Evans has also had a tour of duty out in the fleet. After all, you can't realize the real requirements unless you've lived with the equipment.

  Well When I have him showing up, he's done several tours with the fleet as well as teach for a few years. Now I'm planning on having him as Chief engineer on a Testbed starship. Think of all the fun he would be having trying to break new engines and machinery well before it goes into the prototype ships or out to the fleet itself.

  one of best stories i have read to date.
  if you are looking for ideas send harry and his class to the future and have them meet the other famous captians,picard janeway,worfe,etc.and help out at crucial events till finally they get to go back to the correct time. for instance star trek voyager. you could have harry by a magical trunk.
  if it had been hermoine stuck in the future all she would have done to check for traces of the wizarding world was to check her pockets.come on as it been mentoined she always was quoting hogwarts a history. self updating.she would have memorized a shrinking charmed and have all sorts of things in her pockets. harry by now would be thinking would would hermoine or ron do. he could by a trunk which because its the future could be outfitted to fit an entire haner bay as well as garages for cars and an armoury for vaser weapons . generators. food supplies.if he crosses with voyagers he would be able to supply them with enough goods to survive for longer. state that everytime harry and friends travel he picked up more things. in the star trek universe their was a section that monitered time travel and you could state they where the ones to tell harry to continue to travel through time. state that one of the academy's test was that students had to travel with a puddle jumper to a planet and threat it as a first contact event. meaning checking air.soli samples. living on the planet for a week under fill decom procedures . and on the way to the planet they fell through a black hole whick sends them to the future. to get back they have to keep flying through the hole.

  Thin Grey Line sounds like a reference to West Point. That and your discussion of the beast barracks and what not has me thinking that either you've been either been in the military or if not have read a good deal about it. I remember boot camp and all the things that seemed insane at the time. The first steps of changing civies into squids. (At least in my case)
  
  While it seemed more of a filler chapter it was still quite enjoyable. There were enough hints dropped thoughout to leave no doubt that Harry was about to find/be found by who he was looking for.
  
  All and all nicely done.

  Yea it is. I did 20 in the Army, Long Range Recon followed up with Information Technology when I blew out my knees. Not really a filler, remember Harrys going to be there for 4 years so its the intro to the academy years.
