Chapter Seven- Thanks for all your feedback everyone. I'm glad you are finding little things out about the charachters. This is just a story I write in a few minutes everyday, but its good you give me positive feedback. This chapter doesn't do much, thus why I will try have a few more asap. I do realise Eva sounds annoying and really emotional- but there is so much more to her so I am regretting showing you all the bad bits- but it's snippets and I will definteley explore her better side soon and why she has become the way she has. Anyway enjoy reading! xoxox
For once Eva was first to walk into Mr. Ways class. He smiled at her and she returned the favour.
“I have your test results here from the exam you sat with your previous teacher,” he said to her.
Eva buried her head on the table. “Please don’t give it back to me,” she said panicky. She always felt she did badly.
“Why!?” asked Mr. Way incredulously. By this time the rest of the class was coming in. He had to readjust his expression and asked everyone to sit down. Once people had resumed their positions Gerard began.
“Before we go on to do some group work today, I have your test results from your last assessment. There are a few pleasing results and ones where a few people CAN do much better, but hey, we will work on that yeah?” he said. Eva buried her head on the desk- a feat she did before she got any exam mark back. There was a sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach. A plop land on her desk and she quickly took her head off the table so she could bury her paper. Gerard was still at the edge of her desk looking down on her.
“Top mark, stop stressing,” and he moved on. Eva smiled then quickly hid it and replaced it with a frown to act humble.
Who got the top mark dude?” asked Nick who had ripped up his paper.
“Eva,” replied Gerard still handing the rest out.
The class rolled their eyes.
“Of course, is she gonna cry cause it wasn’t good enough?” said Nick taunting Eva. Eva just looked to the front and held her strength. She felt embarrassed because Gerard was her teacher, but she had to realise now that this was how things were and that he was a normal human being. She had to stop letting her emotions get to her.
“Umm, why don’t you concentrate on getting a better mark next time Nick rather than worrying if Eva will cry,” replied Mr. Way. Nick shut up.
Eva let out a grin and quickly got rid of it- but not before Mr. Way had caught of glimpse of it.
He smirked to himself.
Group work meant that Eva did everything in the group even though she could barely be bothered. Eva never did work, just did well. However, group work meant that you had to present to the class and Eva was always made to do. Her group of four consisted of Amanda, Rebecca and Zoe. The task was to analyse the video yesterday and each group was given a topic to be assessed on. Unfortunately for Eva who had not watched the video and had to do all the work was stuck with the task of writing about community reactions. She grabbed Amanda’s Iphone and began her research. She lazily wrote down some dramatic piece about how the community was affected and how justice can never be achieved for society. Mr. Way just sat at his desk, consumed with a few papers in front of him which he seemed to be scribbling on- obviously assignments.
At about thirty minutes till the end of the lesson, Mr. Way stopped the class.
“Ok, let’s start with the group at the back. Tell us what you found out,” he said. As the groups went around it eventually came to Eva’s group. Eva stood up nervously. She was always good at speaking in public, but was always self- conscious. She could feel Mr. Way’s eyes drawing into her soul. She shivered.
She could hear everyone sniggering and whispering remarks about her. It was a daily thing.
“She’s so ugly...” said one girl.
“What a freak...” said another. And although no one could really hear it, Eva always could. It was why she was the way she was. She was a wreck always trying so hard to justify her existence. Once upon a time she wasn’t like this. Nevertheless, Eva lifted her head up high and began. She was quite good at almost everything she said and that annoyed most people more. She was strange in the fact that there wasn’t a person like her. Most people were so generic, so standard. She came up with new ideas, said things that seemed too bizarre to stand in such an ordinary place. It was that that had her down as the weirdest person in school. Some people liked her, and yet they all put her down. Why? Jealousy. She just never saw it. To herself, she was never good enough. Ever since Gerard had stepped in the school it was if she were possessed becoming more self-obsessed by the day. She loved feeling sorry for herself and realised it because then it meant she didn’t have to blame herself for another thing that wasn’t good about her.
“Thanks Eva,” said Gerard. Eva had spoken so long the bell had gone just as she finished.
Everyone had packed up while she was speaking which meant Eva had to quickly pack up so she could leave before she was stuck in the room alone with ‘him’. She didn’t need to make herself feel worse.
“STOP FUCKING BEING WHINY! STOP IT! STOP COMPLAINING AND WHINGING ABOUT SHIT!” were the words going around Eva’s head. She often shouted to herself in her mind to try and make her realise. It was a funny thought though that no one could read your mind and you could say anything in it. It made Eva smile.
“Sorry Sir,” said Eva as she was last to leave the room. She always apologised when she felt she was holding someone up or annoying them- which she always felt which made her apologise a lot.
“It’s fine, Eva, Stop apologising,” said Mr. Way.
“Sorry,” said Eva then laughed when she realised the paradox.
She kept walking and saw Liza walking down her usual sad expression glued to her face. She was short and chubby and always seemed as if someone had died, and while the rest of the school hated her Eva loved her because although she wouldn’t show it- it was how she felt every day except she wasn’t brave enough to show anyone. That was why Eva cried all the time over pathetic things because it was a build up.
Both girls stopped in front of each other.
“Hey,” said Eva.
“Hey,” said Liza.
“So...” said Eva.
“Hey Eva, why do you never have me over your house? And why do you never hang out with anyone out of school? And why are you so absorbed with what everyone thinks about you? Why do you ramble on about weird shit and then apologise for being weird? Why have you never had a boyfriend? Why have you never kissed a guy? Why do you always cry when you go home? Why are you completely different outside school than in school? Why do you always worry about the future than the present?” said Liza. It was the most random yet confronting thing she had ever said- and the most she had every spoken to Eva. Eva paused.
“You obviously know the answer,” said Eva bluntly staring at her friend like she wanted revenge.
“Because you can’t handle yourself,” said Liza. There was so much tension it was killing both of them. Eva simply said:
“Thanks Liza, you just solved my life mystery. I might go have sex now, it might make me feel wanted. Isn’t that what you do?” and she walked away knowing she was going to jig the rest of the day. She didn't need sad Liza telling her all her issues when Liza had more of her own. Maybe that's why her and vampire man got a long so well, she thought. They both have issues. Eva wasn't screwed up enough. She knew she was lying- she was so depersonalised and she knew it.
