Chapter 15- To my readers, such sweet reviews. I hope one day Gerard Way himself personally comes to your door and kisses you!
The intensity was something Eva couldn’t describe. Each day her heart felt weaker either by Mr. Way or Liza. Eva felt a bit hypocritical getting angry at Liza when she thought something was going on with Mr. Way, when she herself felt these urges. He was a teacher, a rock star, a husband and a father, and she was sure he didn’t want her. Eva contemplated the moment on how close their faces were, and thinking about it more and more made Eva think that it must have meant nothing and that her crazy fanatsies were the only thing making it into something.
By the end of the day, the events and her constant thinking had left her behind in her responsibilities. She hadn’t gone to the school library to borrow some books she needed so she decided to kill two birds with one stone and catch a later bus, as well as avoid Liza. In the library she quickly shuffled through the limited books and found one on criminal cases for the assignment Mr. Way had set. Her mind was always wondering off on tangents, and it didn’t help she had to do an assignment set by him this week.
When she had finished, Eva, either by fate or coincidence, happened to notice Mr. Way walk for his car about 50 metres away from where she was standing. Eva definitely knew it was his car because it was the flashiest in the car park. Eva pretended not to notice him, part of the pathetic games she played with people she fancied. She walked in the direction of the bus stop and when she eventually reached the empty area she sat down wondering if Mr. Way noticed her. He mustn’t have, because his car drove straight past her. Or maybe he did notice her but because of the schools very strict policy he didn’t speak to her. Eva’s heart dropped.

When Eva boarded her bus and got off at another station waiting for her next bus to take her home, Eva’s heart leapt when she saw Mr. Way’s car pull up next to her. His window winded down and his head tried to find a position where he could look at Eva. Eva smiled.
“Hey!” he said politely. “What are you doing in this area so late?” It was getting darker and Eva would have never been home so late if it wasn’t for her parents being away. They would kill her if they found out. It also scared Eva a bit that Mr. Way’s tone seemed almost forgetting about the events earlier that day.
“Hi,” said Eva cautiously. “I am waiting for my bus to take me home, I just got caught up in the library at school.”
Mr. Way gave a slight frown.
“Would you like a lift?” he asked.
“No thank you,” said Eva hurriedly.
“It’s dangerous out here on your own,” he said persisting.
“I can see my bus coming now, honestly, I don’t want you in any trouble,” said Eva. Within a few milliseconds of her finishing that sentence her bus pulled up.
“Thanks anyway, Mr. Way” said Eva, stressing the Mr. Way. She needed to remind herself where they stood in this world. Mr. Way nodded despondently before Eva boarded her bus.

When Eva got off her bus and began to walk towards her house, she was sure she noticed a Mr. Ways car quickly drive off down her street. She was almost certain he had followed the bus home. The thought made Eva kind of weary, wondering what his game was. Within a few moments his car pulled up right behind her. Eva swiftly turned and frowned.
“I can explain,” he said getting out of the car. “I realised you noticed my car so I had to come and explain or else you would think how strange I am.”
Eva just glared at him trying to hold a serious look when all she wanted to do was smile at how pathetic he was standing there.
“Its policy that if I see a student outside school in their uniform late at night, I have to make sure they get home safe or call their parents to alert them where I saw them,” he said.
“That’s a policy?” asked Eva puzzled. “Those stalkers!”
“Well, yeah,” he continued awkwardly. “But I realise most teachers just alert parents. But Liza told me yours were in the USA, and I didn’t want to worry them.” He said lifting his arm and scratching the back of his neck.
“Well, thanks anyway, but I’m fine usually,” began Eva. “I only go to school and come home.”
“Good to know you aren’t wondering off or being abducted,” he said.
“I highly doubt anyone would abduct me,” she said self consciously. “I’m no great use.”
“You’re the prime type of victim of being abducted,” said Mr. Way. “Men see a girl like you by themselves and they would do anything to get you in their car!” His tone was assertive and somewhat furious.
“What is that supposed to mean?” asked Eva. Mr. Way realised what he had said and didn’t know how to justify it.
“I meant to say, there are a lot of crazy people out there,” he said softly.
There was an awkward silence, and Mr. Way walked to his car door and opened it.
“Bye, Eva,” he said.
“Mr. Way,” said Eva. Mr. Way stopped briefly. “Do you want to come inside?”
“I can’t Eva,” he said sadly. “But thank you.” He closed his car door. Eva ran to his side and he wound the window down.
“Why can’t you?” she said.
“Because it’s against school policy unless your parents are there,” He said.
“Nobody knows my parents aren’t here though,” she said. “I was just going to make you a coffee, but I understand.”
Mr. Way paused, and then got out of the car.
“I don’t know why I am doing this, but I don’t know why I’m doing a lot of things lately,” he said quietly and he followed Eva through her front door.

Eva’s house was immaculate, and something you would find in a fashion magazine. Mr. Way walked into her house and she could tell he was awkward.
“I can take your jacket if you want,” she offered.
“No I’m fine,” he said, his hands crossed around his back with his car keys tossing around in his index finger.
Eva excused herself and dashed for her room where she quickly got out of her uniform. She wanted to look amazing but realised how pathetic that would be, so she went the complete opposite- she dressed daggy. She tied her hair up in a very high but messy bun and wore track pants and a big jumper she wore to bed, along with woolly socks and slippers. Although she wouldn’t notice it, Eva always looked fabulous even in her most daggy house clothes.
She walked out, and Mr. Way stopped and glanced at her. He hadn’t even sat down.
“You can sit you know,” said Eva laughing slightly. He tensed a bit more.
“Look, I’m going to make something really simple for dinner, but you will join me, yeah?” she said.
“Look I should go, I don’t want to put you in trouble,” he said franticly.
“Look, if you want to go, I can’t stop you, but I do not mind if you stay,” said Eva quietly.
It was possibly the most cliché reply Mr. Way could say, but it made him stay. “I want to stay.”
Eva smiled.
“I’m going to make pizza,” she said. “I made the dough this morning at 4! I couldn’t sleep.”
It was the most nerve racking thing having Gerard Way in her kitchen, but after the awkwardness it began to get fun. Eva was a true host even in her most unprepared states like tonight. She sat Mr. Way down on a stool and wouldn’t let him help, rather feeding him appetisers and drinks. When the pizzas were finnaly out of the oven, she and Mr. Way had almost forgotten about school policy. Mr. Way had sworn, spoken about his personal life, and most importantly entered her house.
They ate pizza and discussed almost everything. Apparently Mr. Way, or Gerard as Eva had been forced to call him (he hated Mr.Way because it made him feel old), had walked away from everything because he had a serious separation with his wife. The baby wasn’t his apparently. He couldn’t deal with making another album at a time like this, and needed to get his mind elsewhere thus his move to Australia- apparently he liked the coffee here.He had been staying here for the past eight months without anyone noticing his absense. The rest of the band mates had tried to cover up his absense to the media and fans.It was quite sad watching him speak, but it also seemed like he had gotten stronger.
When the conversation started on movies, Gerard excused himself and ran down to his car. Eva had thought he wasn't going to come back up he ran back through the door holding what looked like a DVD. The DVD was apparently one Gerard rented to watch tonight. Eva asked him to put it on showing him how to do it while she cleaned up, prepared desert and munchies for the movie. She also washed her teeth- just in case her breath smelt.
She brought back a selection of cakes and candy as well as hot chocolate. She even brought a blanket out.
“You have a lot of food for someone who is so thin,” he said laughing.
“I like to cook,” laughed Eva.
The movie was just about to start and the upcoming silence between both of them had started to scare Eva. She didn’t want to think about how inappropriate this whole situation was. More importantly, she didn’t want Mr. Way thinking how inappropriate everything was. Fortunately, they got through the whole movie without any interruptions or departures.
“That was...different,” said Gerard.
“That was trippy,” said Eva, causing them both to laugh.
“Eva,” asked Gerard. “Why have you never had a boyfriend?”
The question took Eva by surprise because it was unexpected. She thought for a moment he would excuse himself for asking that question, but he didn’t.
“Well,” began Eva. “I don’t know. I just always had the rule. I mean who needs boyfriends anyway at this age? Have you seen the girls at our school and how they act when they have boyfriends? Completely pathetic.” Eva thought about how crazy she had acted not dating someone, let alone dating someone.
“I was like that,” he said. “I am beggining ot think like that again. Nothing really ever works out, or can work out.”
“There is too much pressure,” said Eva. “I’d rather be rich.”
“I know!” said Gerard agreeing. “Relationships are so pointless and trivial. I'm happy in my fame and fortune.”
There was a brief silence and both just sat there pondering in the warmth of the house.
“Who are we kidding?” said Eva. “We are just scared I guess.”
“I know,” said Gerard quietly.
“Sometimes I think about being in a relationship and realise how behind I am compared to everyone else,” said Eva. “I’m going to be 18 soon and I wouldn’t have kissed a guy. I’d suck completely the first time. I'd probably kiss like a fish."
Gerard laughed. “I guess it comes naturally when you really like someone.”
“I’m sorry, I’m telling you this,” said Eva.
Gerard’s head turned sharply, “What did I tell you about apologising to me?”
“I forget sometimes,” said Eva. “I mean you’re a teacher and a rock star and when I talk to you, I just forget all of those things.” It was the statement that would take both of them back to reality. They had forgotten their social status tonight, and it was heading into dangerous territory.
“Eva,” said Gerard. “Don’t tell anyone I was here.”
“I already tweeted it,” said Eva jokingly.
“I’m being serious though,” said Gerard. “This can never happen again, as much as I really enjoy your company.”
The mood had turned solemn.
“I understand, Mr. Way,” said Eva.
At that instant, those words had triggered a nerve in Gerard because he quickly turned and grabbed Eva, but by the hand this time. His grip was hard and his eyes were flaring into hers.
“What are you doing to me?” he said fiercely and desperately.
“I don’t understand...” said Eva slightly fearful.
“This!” he said taking his hand out of hers and closing his eyes while he grasped his head. Eva remained silent. “We talk, and get close, and then you remind me about everything and call me Mr. Way and pretend nothing happened.”
“You’re the one who said don’t tell anyone, and that it can never happen again!” said Eva angrily straightening her back. Mr. Way sighed. “I don’t know what you want me to do!”
“I just forget how young you are...” he said.
The silence was unbearable.
“What does that mean?” asked Eva.
“It means...” said Gerard. “Well, I’m sure you know what it means.”
More silence.
“I should go,” he said getting up. Eva was about to let him go when something prompted her to speak.
“No!” she said grabbing his hand in a tight grip. “We always end our conversations like this.”
He looked at her.
“Please,” said Eva desperately. He sat down and did not remove his eyes off her. Eva shifted in her chair gazing further into his eyes.
“Eva,” said Mr. Way.
“Yes,” began Eva. “Gerard...”
“I can’t believe you’ve never been kissed,” he said quietly drawing his eyes further into hers.
Eva did not speak.
“Do you want to teach me?” said Eva naively. She could have kicked herself for being so forward. She was so innocent in reality and this image was one she wasn’t used to, but the poor girl was trying to overcome her fears of letting someone touch her.
“I’d love that,’ he said gently.
Eva readjusted herself to face him, her hands beginning to shake. Gerard had a look of longing and fear in his eyes. He had started to move closer, his hands moving to touch the side of her head softly. Eva was waiting for him to initiate the kiss. He was only half an inch from her face, his sugared breath teasing her lips. He tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, making Eva shiver slightly. Goosebumps had formed on her arms and he looked down slightly and grabbed her hand, caressing her fingers with his gentle touch. He looked back up into her daring but fearful eyes and gently brushed her supple lips, barely even leaving an imprint, only in her senses where that slight feeling sent a tingle all through her body. Suddenly, the moment had changed for some unknown reason and Gerard’s eyes had opened widely. He pulled his closeness away from Eva, stood up and picked up his car keys so quickly Eva hadn’t had time to adjust to the change in mood.
“I can’t do this. This is wrong,” he said panicky.
“Gerard,” said Eva but she was interrupted.
“Stop it! From now on I am Mr. Way to you and Mr. Way only,” he said. “I am doing us both a favour. This is too complicated and wrong.” He barged to the front door, opened it, walked through it, and closed it just as Eva had gotten off the couch to stop him.
It was too late, she heard his car accelerate away from her house, until she could no longer hear it. The only memory of him being there was the tingle on her lips.
The intensity was something Eva couldn’t describe. Each day her heart felt weaker either by Mr. Way or Liza.
