Chapter 18- To my sexy readers. This is a short chapter. I will have a few more put up this weekend. xoxoxox

The night was tranquil. Neither Eva nor Gerard moved, and they lay tiredly in each other’s arms forgetting any worry. The feeling was not to last long. Eva opened her eyes. She was wrapped in a tight embrace from a sleeping Gerard. Panic took over. She had slept here the night. It was a God given miracle that her parents were in America, but it was gift from hell that it was a school night. Eva did not know what to do. She did not want to wake Gerard for fear of being rude, but at the same time she wanted to shake him awake to look at the situation. They had let their guard down and with their relationship being on such rocky terms it was awkward and forbidding. Eva and Gerard were both people whose moods changed often and were both fiery- and passionate people as some would call them.

Eva slowly tried to unravel herself from his arms but in the process Gerard’s eyes shot open. Eva saw him smile for a split second before he too realised the situation they were in.

“It’s 6:30!” said Eva. “I’m sorry I fell asleep last night. It’s my fault!” she was frantically running around the living room locating her shoes and bag like A Cinderella whose carriage was about to turn into a pumpkin.

“No,” began Gerard “Don’t worry. I’ll get you home now.”

“I’m sorry, it's just my bus comes at 7:15,” said Eva.

“I’ll just drive you to school,” said Gerard.

Eva stopped in her tracks.

“Are you crazy?” she said. “How suspicious will that look?!”

“I forgot,” he said nervously. Once again reality had hit both of them. “Ok, let’s go.” He put on his shoes and the two of them raced outside to jump in his car. They did not say anything on the way to Eva’s house both edgy about the situation. They did not talk and for that split second Eva hated him. This was not a situation she wanted to be in. She realised how immature she sounded but it was true.

When Eva’s house was in sight she undid her seatbelt and ran out of the car when the car had stopped.

“Thank you for everything, and I’m sorry,” were her last words.

Eva was frantic when she entered the house. She quickly took off her dress and replaced it with her school uniform. She took off her makeup from the night before and just applied the minimal amount she put on for school. Her hair was fine. She grabbed her folder and ran for the bus which came a few seconds after she had reached the bus stop. She did not notice Gerard parked further down watching to see if she had caught the bus in time. Their constantly changing moods kept things interesting

When Eva reached the station Liza noticed her jumpy nature.

“What’s wrong with you?” asked Liza.

“Overslept,” was Eva’s simple answer.

The ride to school was torturous, Eva’s heart still racing.

When Eva landed ground in school she saw Gerard walking in frantically. It was a petty situation they were in that was easily fixed but it meant that both were caught off guard and in this situation it was necessary they were cautious. Reality was always around the corner and they had to be prepared. That look at him had made Eva feel guilty about feeling hostile towards him. Ever since he had come her emotions had been out of wack more than usual. She realised she was just being defensive about letting anyone in to her life.

Eva breathlessly tousled her back and excused herself from Liza.

“I need to talk to Mr. Way about my assignment,” she said pretending she didn’t really want to go.

“I’ll come!” said Liza defensively.

“I’ll be a while,” said Eva.

“It’s fine, I’ll still come,” persisted Liza.

“Ok,” said Eva mentally picturing Liza having her hair pulled out strand by strand.

Eva and Liza walked up to the staffroom slowly and knocked on the green wooden door. They opened it and Gerard turned to look at them and smiled. He ushered them outside away from the staffroom of teachers.

“What can I do for you girls?” asked Gerard. His hair was messier than usual which made him look dreamier. Eva knocked herself out of it not wanting to let her guard down.

“I wanted to talk to you about my assignment,” said Eva. Gerard looked confused.

“I have already marked your assignment, it was perfect,” he said baffled. Eva found it difficult to say what she really wanted to say with Liza around. Liza was giving envious looks towards Eva because perfect and Eva in the same sentence was a term Liza heard too often from teachers.

“Well, you see that’s why I wanted to talk to you,’ said Eva. Liza looked vicious. “I know I didn’t get to mention it because I’m always in a rush these days, but thank you for assisting me with it and being such a wonderful teacher.”

Gerard understood that what she really wanted to say was- “Thank you for last night and for being such a wonderful host. Sorry I stormed out this morning.”

He smiled and Liza looked like she was about to stab Eva right there and then.

“It’s my pleasure,” he said embarrassedly. “You are an excellent student.”

Eva nodded, smiling that know all smile and walked away with Liza trailing behind.

Eva bumped into Michaela on the way to English. Michaela was a popular and pretty girl who all the girls hated but all the boys loved. She was nice but at the same time very untrustworthy and hated complimenting people. The boys seemed to love her for her dumb and flirtatious nature and the girls hated how she always bitched about them and slept with their boyfriends. Eva still didn’t bother hating her saying that girls always blamed the girl rather than their boyfriend.

“Hey,” said Eva politely.

“Hi, how have you been?” asked Michaela genuinely.

“Good! How about yourself? I haven’t seen you in two weeks!” said Eva.

“I was on a sports trip for basketball!” she said. “Have I missed heaps of work?”

“Teachers have put stuff aside for you,” said Eva nicely.

“I heard Gerard Way is at our school now! When I found out I screamed. What a babe!” said Michaela laughing.

Eva shifted uncomfortably at his name and smiled.

“I know, I’d tap that!” said Eva in her usual joking nature.

“Uh, Eva, no,” said Michaela seriously. “Doesn’t he go for like pretty girls or something?” Her tone seemed innocent but Eva knew the comment was meant to be condescending.

“He might go for you then,” said Eva funnily pretending it didn’t affect her and nudging her playfully. Michaela smiled and laughed before walking away. Although Eva didn’t know it, Michaela despite how pretty everyone said she was, was very jealous of Eva. Eva sadly did not see her assets and therefore did not flaunt he looks like Michaela but Eva still stood out a mile away with her glamour making Micheala very jealous. Rather, Eva flaunted her brains which she knew she had which made people very intimidated of her. Michaela on the other hand was intimidating because she made people around her feel like she was judging them. Her being back meant things were going to become interesting.

Eva was not one to be jealous of girls talking to boys she liked, it just wasn’t in her nature, but Michaela talking to Mr. Way was something that made her heart fracture. Every guy Eva had liked in high school Michaela was the type of girl who would date them. She was sexually experienced while Eva was clumsy and had only kissed Mr. Way.

Eva was walking from English to lunch and spotted Michaela talking to Mr. Way excitedly. When it came to men she was always flirtatious and so easy to talk to. What annoyed Eva more was the fact that Gerard looked genuinely into the conversation. Eva’s heart started to combine with her mind and when it did it wasn’t a good thing. Eva began to question her feelings, and then she decided- she didn’t want anything to do with Gerard on a sexual level again. She was not that type of girl who gave herself away and definitely not the type of girl who was willing to open her heart to a man who could break it within a minute. Eva forced herself to move her head away from the sickening picture and walked to the library.

Eva read through some notes she made in class although she didn’t take anything in.

“Did you see Mr. Way flirting with Michaela?” said one girl in her year to another who was borrowing books from behind Eva.

“She’ll flirt with any remotely good looking thing,” said another. Eva’s eyes were about to water, a sign of weakness she showed far too often, but Eva grabbed her hand and pinched it very hard to stop herself. There was a red mark on her wrist, and this prompted Eva’s eyes to suck up any water that was coming out of them.

Eva picked up her things and walked out of the library and walked up some stairs to her last class- legal. She sat down in her usual chair and the class was heading in. Gerard was five minutes late and came in smiling and breathless. Eva tried to put on her best facade.

“Sorry I’m late,” said Mr. Way happily offering no explanation. “ Open up your books and copy what’s on the board.” His eyes shifted to Eva. Eva had calculated all his predictable moves in the library and her plan of attack. She did not look at him but rather conjured up a story to tell Amanda to make her laugh and make out she did not care about Mr. Way glancing at her. Eva copied down the information on the board while chatting away to Amanda. When she had finished she packed up her stuff and got out of her seat. She walked up to Gerard who looked up at her timidly then smiled.

“Sorry Mr. Way,” began Eva. “I am sick, do you mind if I go to the sick bay?”

Gerard looked at her uncertainly.

“Ok, I’ll walk you down,” he said caringly.

“No!” said Eva. “I’ll be fine.” She walked to her desk picked up her bag, nodded to Amanda to signal a goodbye and walked out the door. She smiled that she had gotten away with faking an illness and couldn’t wait to get home and begin fantasising about her future. She was inspired and definitely not in the mood for romance anymore. Micheala's hands brushing up Mr. Way's arm was like watching porn- and Eva was not in the mood AT ALL.

Eva heard footsteps behind her and then felt a hand grab hers from behind her. She could smell the familiar cologne and she shuddered.

“Are you Ok?” asked Gerard concerned. Eva took her hand out of his abruptly but covered up her anger by smiling.

“Yeah, fine, just going home,” she said then continued walking.

“I’ll come by later with some food and see how your feeling,” said Gerard genuinely with the same face he had when talking to Michaela. Eva had never experienced a feeling of immense jealousy before.

“No, it’s fine,” said Eva assertively. She stopped in her tracks and faced Gerard. “I don’t think it’s a good idea to see you again Mr. Way. It’s my last year and I need to concentrate and not get involved in something so complicated.” Eva hated the words she said, and she could see the disappointment on Gerard’s face. She had called him Mr. Way just to annoy him. The look transfixed on his face suddenly tuned into sternness.

“I agree,” he said coldly. “I didn’t feel anything between us anyway. I just took advantage of you because I was bored. I am sorry and I hope you keep what we did a secret". Eva nodded protecting the pain of his words from reaching her face. They both turned away and walked in opposite directions.
