A soft sigh escaped through soft, pouted lips as the female's grey eyes followed the forms of the six figures left her home, leaving her alone in her drawing room. She listened to their fast movements until she heard the front door to her vast home shut softly, signaling their official exit. She sighed once more, part frustration, part disappointment, and used her telepathy to call for one of her favored pets as she rose to her feet.

She looked up as the door opened and her servant walked into the room, bowing his head for a moment before he moved closer to her. "You called Mistress Rose?" He questioned softly, his voice slightly deep.

She smiled at him as she stroked his cheek. "Do you know who was just here, Joshua?" She questioned, her grey eyes staring into his hazel eyes. When he shook his head, she gave him a kind smile and kissed his forehead. "You could call them "elders" but they aren't all old. Some of them are fairly new, but have a connection to someone in higher places... They like to believe they have right to dictate the others of our kind."

Josh frowned, his brows furrowing as he stared at his Mistress. "What gives them that right?"

"Follow me, Joshua, and I'll explain..." She walked with him out of her room and walked down the hallway towards her bedroom, her eyes roaming over her other pets that inhabited her home. "A long time ago, when the humans first waged war against our kind, the original of the six came together and found a way to drive them back for the most part, saving a lot of our kind from murder. From time to time, other vampires would go to them, or send word to them or needing help, or to get advice, and they gave it. So after time they grew to believe they could do whatever they so pleased and no one would say anything."

Josh's frown deepened further as he followed her into the room, shutting the door when she signaled for him to do so. "Go on..."

"Anytime there is a problem, they handle it now, or send whoever caused the problem to clean up their mess. If the vampire chooses to ignore, they will gladly send for that vampire to be destroyed, or if they feel enough of a blood lust, they'll come and do it themselves."

"Why were they here to visit you?" He questioned, his eyes widened as his back went rigid as if there was a threat in the very room they stood in.

Sitting on her bed, she slid her grey eyes to her pet's worried expression and patted the spot next to her. "Joshua," she said as she took his hand in hers, using her free hand to stroke his hair. "a long time ago I created my first pet, but not too long after I did this, I let them go, because it wasn't right up me to keep them. Apparently this old pet of mine is waging a war that I must stop before it spills into the city, outside of the community."

"You're leaving..." He muttered, his chest tightening at the thought of his Mistress being away. "But, we need you here."

"I'll be calling in a favor of an old friend," she replied, "he'll come and watch my home, and take care of you as well as my other pets. But, and I will make this crystal clear to him, none of you are to follow any of his orders unless it is to protect this home."

"How long...will you be gone?"

"Just long enough to fix my mistake before they take it into their own hands. If they do that, then more than likely... Well, we just won't speak of that outcome, because it won't come to that. I'll be leaving first thing in the morning, and I should be back within three days. I'll keep in touch," she whispered before she lightly rested her forehead against his own so that he would know she mental telepathically.

"I'll miss you, Mistress," he whispered as he closed his eyes.

"I'll miss you too, Joshua." She pulled back and looked at him, her expression serious. "From the word I received, I don't know who I can and can't trust, so until I return, even while Daren is here, I want you to keep the other pets under control. Can you do that for me, Joshua?"

Josh nodded, eager to please the object of his affection. "Yes, Mistress, I'll gladly help you, as much as I can. While you are gone, is there anyone that you know you can trust that I should call on for help, if the friend you're sending turns out to be a false ally?"

"I want you to call Christopher," she answered as she let him rest his head on her shoulder. "I know I'll never have to doubt him, but I don't want to bother him unless it's absolutely necessary."

Gabe gently guided Rayne away from the crowd, to the remains of what had been an elevator shaft. "I sent Ryland to do some digging for me, he's got people I don't know about, and they found something for me. Something that will help all of us as soon as it gets set in motion," he said, keeping it in her mind in case of eavesdroppers. Lately his trust in everyone around them had begun to wane, but he knew Rayne would always be safe.

Rayne furrowed her brows in confusion and opened her mouth to speak, to question why he was speaking in her mind when they were face to face, but his hand suddenly covering her mouth prevented it. The dark look in his eyes brought worry to her as she replied, "Gabe, what is going on?"

"I think we're in a trap, Rayne," he answered as he lowered his hand and glanced at one of Aubrey's guards. "Why were you able to see them? Why didn't they hide themselves from you? Something is going on Rayne, and we need to be ready for it."

"That's why Ryland isn't here... Who does he know? What did they find out?"

"They think they might have something on William, something that will help us all come out on top, but we need to find him. We need to let this trap happen, but at the same time avoid as many casualties as possible."

"If there is a trap, why should we let it happen? Gabe you've lost me..."

"Rayne, think about it... William is a fucking
child, a selfish, self absorbed, child. He's going to want the pleasure of causing all of his damage himself, as long as everyone is subdued. We need to find him, so let's let them take us to him."

Rayne frowned. "That's very dangerous Gabe..."

"I'm older than you Rayne, vampire age wise, I'm older. Everything you know you learned from me, but now I know there are things even I don't know,"
he paused to do a double check to make sure they hadn't gained any attention. "Things that vampires way older than myself have kept from those they consider 'young blood,' because of the amount of power involved. These are things you have to be taught, nothing you can learn on your own, unless by pure fucking luck."

"Did they find out these things?"
She questioned, doing her own scan of the faces to make sure none were looking in their direction.

"No, they found out of their existence, not what they are... But they did find someone who knows them, someone who practices them. And if we can get to William, this ancient vampire is going to track us down to get to him."

"What makes you so sure he or she will help?"

"She has to, or it's her death."
