Richard Grayson smiled as he looked upon his long-lost home. He had left the titans for a week, needing to get the feeling of safety and security that came with his former home back. The team knew he was with Batman, but they didn't know his secret identity. He was glad to be home again. Normally, he was Robin, fearless leader of the Teen Titans, but this week he was just Dick Grayson, adopted son of the billionaire Bruce Wayne. He really liked the sound of that. Alfred opened the door as Dick arrived at the front steps.
"Welcome home." Alfred said in sign language. Dick smiled and thanked him before pulling the two hearing aids from his ears and setting them on the coffee table. They were really annoying him today. Richard John Grayson had been born almost completely deaf. He could hear just enough to read lips, and was good enough at it to be able to carry out a normal conversation with a barely detectible pause before answering. Although he could speak well, he preferred to use sign language at home, out of habit rather than choice. Bruce tapped him on the shoulder- the standard way of getting Dick's attention in the house. Dick smiled brightly at his adopted father and hugged him tightly.
"I missed you." Dick signed. Bruce smiled and signed the same thing back. Both laughed. Not many people knew that Bruce Wayne was fluent in sign language, but then again, not many people knew Dick Grayson was deaf. Bruce took. Dick by the arm and led him to his room, in case he needed anything. Dick's bags were already sitting neatly on his bed. Bruce knelt down to one knee as Dick sat on the bed.
"Do you need anything before I leave?" Bruce signed. Richard looked thoughtful for a moment before shaking his head "no". Bruce smiled at him, gave him an affectionate pat on the shoulder, and then left Dick to his own devices. Dick sighed. He was alone again. He thought about what to do now before the question answered itself. He looked down at his suitcase.
Time to start unpacking.
