DESOLE
Months of waiting, biding our time, betraying our friends and sneaking about were finally going to pay off. Today was the day Mindless Self Indulgence would leave on a plane to the UK and take Lindsey with them. Today was also the say that Gerard would be breaking off the engagement. Everybody from Milo to My Chem was on edge. I couldn’t stop my hands from shaking. My thoughts raced. What if something goes wrong? What if it isn’t as easy as we thought it would be? What if everything blows up in our faces? All of these were such strong possibilities.
Gerard and I ducked out real quick in the family bathroom before anybody could spot us. I kissed him furiously for good luck and enjoyed the feeling of him running his fingers through my hair as if it would be the last time.
“Are you ready to do this?” I asked when we reluctantly pulled ourselves away from each other. Gerard bit his lower lip and nodded, but still looked nervous.
“I’m just jumpy is all. We’ve been waiting for this day for so long, y’know? I don’t wanna mess it up.” he said, looking over his shoulder like a paranoid drug dealer. I took his cheek in my hand and made him look back at me.
“I love you.” I said, my eyes never leaving him. Then I leaned in to give him one final, passionate kiss to seal the deal before the deed was done.
Everybody went to the air port to wish the members of MSI goodbye. MCR sat away from me, which I expected. I twiddled Gerard’s wedding ring around my neck furiously out of anxiety. Milo and I were sitting together a few feet from the gates and the security check. Every now and then I glanced up from my little perch and checked the time. Five minutes passed by, then ten, then fifteen. Then finally I saw Gerard storming away from the gates, fuming and looking very distraught. This could only bring bad news.
“What happened?” I asked immediately standing up when he walked by, ready to comfort him if he so needed it. Gerard grumbled bitterly and continued walking toward the exit. I almost had to run to keep up with him. I got in front of him and put my hands on his shoulders to stop him in his tracks.
“Tell me what happened.” I demanded. Gerard sighed and took a moment to collect himself. I was trying to seem as ready as possible but inside I was a quivering mess.
“I didn’t get the chance to talk to her! I lost her in the damn crowd and next thing I know her flight is boarding and they won’t let me through fucking security! For fuck’s sake!” Gerard said, sounding so frustrated that I wanted to take a step back. I didn’t know what to say. I didn’t want to make the situation worse by expressing my distress so I stayed quiet for a moment or two.
“Fuck it, I’m just going to call her right now before they finish boarding.” he said, suddenly whipping out his cell phone. I was shocked and a little worried.
“Over the phone? Breaking off an engagement over the phone? Right now? Gerard, if you want we could just wait until she comes back or something.” I suggested softly, trying to comfort him in some way. I honestly didn’t want to wait, but over the phone seemed like a pretty feeble way to end something as big as an engagement.
“Yes, right now. I can’t wait any longer. I want to be able to kiss you in public and hold your hand when we walk together. I’m sick of having to keep everything under wraps.” he said almost angrily. I could tell that he wanted to kiss me right then by the look in his eyes but we couldn’t because somebody from the press might be watching, only proving his point further.
“Okay…” I said with a small nod. Gerard dialed her number and I fell silent, still in awe about what was about to go down right in front of me.
“Hey Lindsey. Yeah, I know your boarding. I need to talk to you.” he said very seriously. There was a pause and I couldn’t hear what Lindsey was saying. “Its about us. This isn’t working out the way I originally planned it.” there was another pause, a longer one, in which I caught a very faint “cancel the wedding”. The tone of her voice sent a pang of guilt all the way through me but I suppressed it with all my might.
“Yes, that’s exactly what I’m trying to say. What do you mean ‘what about our future’? We never had a future to begin with Lindsey.” he said, shutting his eyes in frustration while there was another pause. I heard indistinct yelling and cringed.
“Yeah, well I’m looking at my future right now.” Gerard said, reopening his eyes and staring me directly in the face. I felt my heart swell so big I thought it was going to burst and I reached up and touched the wedding ring again.
“Goodbye Lindsey.” he said firmly before hanging up the phone. Before he could even stuff it back in his pocket, I tackled him in our very first public hug. I jumped on him, wrapping my legs around his waist and my arms around his neck. He caught me and stumbled back a bit before catching his balance.
“So its over? Its just that easy?” I asked, the joy bursting from my voice. Gerard’s smiled widened as he looked at me.
“Just that easy.” he said before kissing me for the first time out in the open. It was probably the sweetest, most savorable kiss I ever had. People around us started clapping, probably thinking we were long lost lovers finally reunited, which in a way we were. We didn’t care if the press was watching, we didn’t have to worry anymore. We were finally free.
“I think we should go get a hotel room.” I mumbled in between kisses. I loved how I could feel Gerard smiling underneath my lips.
“You read my mind.” he grinned.
THAT NIGHT
Free at last, free at last. Thank god almighty we are free at last! That is exactly how Gerard and I felt as we left the airport together, hand in hand for the first time out in the open. No more worry. No more lying. No more sneaking. No more pretending. We could actually touch each other and kiss each other in public. I felt like the storm was over and we’d finally reached a serene sort of calm. That night we rented a motel room and stayed up half the night. We took it slow, making sure to savor every sensation and make every feel last.
Gerard wrapped his arms around me tightly and snuggled up to me so that his face was in my hair. I could hear him breathing and I shut my eyes, focusing on the feeling of his heart bounding inside his chest behind me. Right before I was about to fall asleep I heard him mutter something in a sing-song type voice-
“Please don’t go. I’ll eat you up, I love you so.”

Hey guys! Thank you for the sweet reviews! Today one of my readers sent me two links saying that these songs reminded her a lot of the story. The songs were "Red And Blue" and "You And I" both by Lady Gaga. I am a HUGE Gaga fan. And the truth is the idea for this story was based off the song "Red And Blue". You guys should get the songs out, they go perfectly! Here's the links:
