“Mikes, can you bring some coffee filters down as well, I’ve got none left down here?” I asked and Mikey, being the amazing little brother that he is, ran off upstairs with Ray and Bob to retrieve snacks, drinks and coffee filters.
“Why would you need coffee filters?” Frankie asked, confused and I pointed to the small coffee machine that was half under my bed. “How did I not notice that?” He asked, face plaming, “You really do live and breathe coffee don’t you?”
“Yup, how else am I meant to get out of bed every morning?” I smirked, “Wanna pick a movie, I’ve got loads.”
“I had noticed.” He said, pointing towards the three black bookshelves that lined the wall where my flat screen 42” HD TV was, all of the shelves were filled with DVD’s- mostly horror. Apart from the bottom shelf of each book case, which had comic books, sketch books or CD’s filling them.
“Edward Scissorhands?” He asked and I giggled.
“You’re such a chick flick lover.” I commented and he pouted.
“Since when has Edward Scissorhand’s been a chick flick?” Bob asked from right behind me, making me jump and squeal.
“So you think Scissorhands is a chick flick yet when someone walks up behind you, you jump and squeal like a girl.” Ray laughed and Mikey snickered.
“Excuse me, but technically, I am half girl and I’m gay so shut it losers.” And I childishly stuck my tongue out at Ray, Bob and Mikey behind me.
“Who can argue with logic like that?” Frank said and stuck the DVD into the player and cannonballed onto my bed- it was a King size, so we all fit on it easily. I sat in the corner with Frank leaning his head on my chest and Bob, Ray and Mikey, lay on their stomachs as Frankie pressed play and the snacks were handed out. We had Doritos, pixie sticks, skittles, marshmallows, cold pizza and galaxy chocolate (my favourite, I’m such a girl!). Frankie loved skittles as he quickly claimed two large bags and was starting to get a sugar high by the time we had got half an hour into the movie.
“Gee.” Frankie whined, bouncing up and down. “Can we do something please, I have too much energy. Can you get rid of some of my energy please?” Frank begged and Ray and Bob burst out laughing and Mikey looked slightly disgusted.
“I think I have an idea…” I said and smirked at my younger brothers expression, “How about we go for a run?” I suggested and Mikey looked sceptical. “You guys don’t have to come, stay here and watch more movies.” I said.
“Will you come with me, though?” Frankie asked and I nodded.
“Wow…Gerard volunteering for running, I never thought I’d see the day.” Ray said, hand on heart and sniffing dramatically like a proud father. I rolled my eyes and jumped up, slinging on my converse.
“In our pyjama’s?” Frankie asked unsurely.
“Why not?” I asked, smirking.
“Fair does, I’m going bare foot.” He stated and got up.
“In Jersey? Brave man.” Bob said, clapping him on the back as he got off the bed.
“Let’s go.” I said and legged it up the stairs, down the hall and out of the door- going down the porch steps so fast I thought I was going to trip and flip over! It was raining heavily and I wasn’t wearing my sports bra- or any bra at all in fact, but I couldn’t care less. Frankie took my hand as we ran down the streets of New Jersey together, singing Astro Zombies at the top of our lungs and being shouted at by angry neighbours leaning out of their windows. We were singing, running and laughing like mad people, and that’s when I saw him. I stopped dead in my tracks, causing Frankie to shoot forwards and then shoot right back again, looking at me with a confused expression as I froze with fear. The man that had tried to rape me just hours before was standing right in front of my eyes, another girl crying and pinned up against the wall. Was one attempt not enough tonight? Could he not see that she didn’t want anything to do with him? Hell, she probably hadn’t even had the nice and gentle lead up I’d received.
“Leave her alone.” I growled, ripping my hand out of Frankie’s and stepping towards the scene slightly as a wave of anger washed over me.
“You’re not going to tell me what to do.” The man growled and carried on fumbling with the girls belt, she’d stopped struggling now and was just crying helplessly.
“Oh yeah? Remember me?” I snarled, grabbing the man’s shoulder and flipping him round so he could get a good look at me.
“Y-you!” He stuttered and I held him by the collar, lifting him up and slamming him against the wall…I guess all the times in my life I’ve been beaten to less than a pulp I’ve picked up a few things.
“Who do you think you are!?” I yelled, right in the man’s face, he smelt just like alcohol and cocaine, and I should know, I used to be addicted to the damn stuff.
“Run!” I heard Frankie yell from a few feet behind me. The girl trembled and wobbled on her feet slightly, still in complete hysterics as she ran as fast as her small legs and high heels would allow her to go.
“Y-you’re a f-freak.” He muttered and I threw my head back, laughing insanely though still containing a firm grip on the man’s collar- his feet hovering mere inches off the cold, wet ground.
“Too right I’m a freak! Is that the best you could come up with?” I asked, smirking in spite of the situation- this man was clearly drunk though, but too drunk to be anything but lazy. When he got to me the first time, he had just enough alcohol in his system to enhance his anger, but now…I doubt he’ll make it to the morning, I can tell by his eyes and the way his voice is cracked and hoarse that he’s so clearly overdosed. I dropped him to the ground and spat on him, not that it would matter, he was soaked from the rain anyway.
“Get out of this town and out of my hair…or so help me, I’ll be back for you.” I threatened and I was fully intending to carry out that threat. He lay, trembling on the ground as I kicked him in the nose and walked away, he probably won’t be in pain for much longer anyway.
“Come on Frankie, let’s go home.” I said and smiled at him.
“That was…amazing. Just like what you did to your Dad... Is he the guy that, you know…” Frankie trailed off and I nodded. “He was so weak just then though.” He commented, looking slightly bewildered as I put an arm round his shoulders and we started on finishing our walk round the block.
“This evening, he was just borderline drunk, just enough alcohol was in his system to make him feel stronger and more angry. So he could get full use of his strength, if you like. Now though, he is incredibly drunk and has obviously had a large overdose, if he makes it to ten this morning; he’s a very lucky man.” I explained and Frank looked up at me.
“How can you tell?” He asked, his voice little more than a whisper.
“I used to be a coke addict myself, and admittedly, I’m still a recovering alcoholic.” I told him and he just looked amazed.
“Wow.” Was all that escaped his lips in a small mutter.
“I had a rough school life.” I laughed and he giggled slightly himself.
“Are you going to tell Mikey what just happened?” Frankie asked, brow furrowed as he awaited my answer.
“I suppose I’ve got to. I think honesty is the best policy with him now, and in all fairness, we’ve been gone a long time for just a quick run around the block.” I said and Frankie yawned, “Not so energetic now, are we?” I mused, only just managing to supress a giggle.
“Watching you tell off a drunk and high rapist is most definitely tiring.” He stated and I chuckled under my breath.
“What’s so funny, Way?” He asked, trying (and most definitely failing) to look stern.
“I never thought I’d hear that sentence being said to me. Ever.” Frankie shrugged and started humming a random tune as we turned the last corner back to my house.
