Chapter Six

Kagome skidded to a stop in the middle of the mile high mountain slope. Snow was gently beginning to fall as she turned around towards the peak, video camera in hand. She zoomed in a began her narration.

"Okay, welcome to a day in my life, part two, and I promise, no mall narcs this time .... and I won't run into a garbage can. Trees are a whole different matter, though. Anyway, so here we are on winter vacation or break or whatever ya'll want to call it," Kagome turned towards the slope next to her and focused on the ski lift where a familiar couple resided.

"There's Sango and Miroku, how cute. Wait a minute... Whoa, come on get a room you guys. You're gonna melt away all the snow, jeez!! Hmm... good thing they can't hear me or Sango would probably deck me right now." She then panned around the rest of the mountain side. "Now, Inuyasha is here somewhere. But where? Hellooo? Where'd he go?"

"YO, KAG!!" came a cry. She turned back towards the top of the slope. She yelped and ducked as a black and silver blur flew past her head and continued down, doing flips and turns off every jump possible. Kagome straightened up and focused on the streak. "Show off," she muttered. She zoomed in as Inuyasha stopped and waved, a huge smirk on his face.

"Yeah, obviously my boyfriend is fascinated with the art of TRYING TO TAKE MY HEAD OFF!!" Kagome screamed loud enough so he could hear, Inuyasha started cracking up. If she didn't know any better, she could swear that she heard Sango and Miroku laughing from someone unknown location.

"The whole world is against me," she murmured, heading down the slope.
**************************
It was three days before Christmas, they would be heading back home in a week. It was eight o'clock in the evening and the weather was starting to become a little more harsh. The wind had picked up and the snow was getting thicker, but you would have never known it from inside the warm cabin.

Inuyasha laid on the large, green couch, watching TV. Kagome was asleep in his arms, her head tucked under his chin, practically swallowed in his large black sweatshirt. He had one arm around her waist, the other hand resting on her back since she would occasionally cough or sneeze. The cold had finally taken it's toll on the poor girl, he could tell, though she didn't have a fever. He looked over at the opposite couch where Sango and Miroku were in a similar position, except she was reading a magazine.

Kagome sighed softly in her sleep, and Inuyasha looked back down at her face. He smiled, rubbed her arm gently, and kissed the top of her head. Suddenly the lights flickered, and blinked out. Sango gave off a loud yelp which caused Kagome to jerk awake.

"You two okay?" Miroku asked.

"Yeah, we're fine," Inuyasha replied, tightening his hold on the girl who was still too out of it to realize what was happening. She sneezed.

"What's going on?" Kagome asked, sleepily. Inuyasha kissed her forehead.

"Black out, don't worry 'bout it. Hey, Miroku, I'm going to go try to find the circuit breaker you want to get that fireplace going?"

"Yeah, sure," Miroku said, releasing Sango and heading towards the kitchen for the flashlight. Inuyasha gently moved Kagome off his lap and laid a warm blanket over her cross legs before walking down to the basement. She leaned her head on the back of the couch and sighed, still too tired to really comprehend anything.

"Hey, Sango. Why don't you call the lodge on your cellphone, tell them what's going on, you know?" Miroku called from the kitchen.

"Okay," Sango got up and looked for her backpack in the room lit only by the moonlight reflecting off the snow out the window. "Oh shoot," she muttered.

"What's wrong?" Kagome asked. Sango slapped her head.

"Argh, I left the packs in the locker at the lodge when we ate dinner there, all our cellphones and first aid crap are in them. Dang, Miroku's gonna kill me," she said quietly.

"So, just go and get them, I'm sure the lodge is still open,"

"Um... you see... I can't," Sango said, looking at her fingers.

"Why not?"

"I... can't drive... the snowmobile... the last time I tried, I crashed into a tree," she said sheepishly. "And I can't really ask one of the guys to go get them because they'd give me a really hard time..." she looked at Kagome.

"Oh no, Sango," Kagome said, shaking her head. "No way!"

"Oh come on, Kagome, please. You're the only one I can ask."

"Why me?"

"Because I'm your best friend and you'll do anything to save my ass," Kagome sighed.

"How bad do you need them?" she asked, a little exasperated.

"Real bad."

"All right, all right. I'll go get them, but you so owe me," Kagome muttered and left the warmth of the overstuffed couch. She pulled on a thick leather jacket, a pair of gloves and goggles before taking the keys off the side table. "I'll be back in an hour,"

"Thank you, Kagome. You're a life saver!!" Sango said.

"Yeah, yeah, you just keep saying that and we'll see if you stay on my Christmas list," she muttered and walked out the door.
**************************
"THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT!!" Inuyasha cried as he resumed his pacing along the kitchen floor. He had come back after an unsuccessful meeting with the circuit box, to find a missing Kagome and a slightly distraught Sango. When Sango confessed her little begging story, he had gone nuts, claiming that if Kagome got pneumonia it would be her head.

"I know, I know. I'm really sorry," Sango said, sitting at the counter. "I was sure she would have been back a long time ago." She sighed and buried her head in her arms as she rested on the counter, trying her best to hold back the tears. Their best friend was missing, and it was her fault. Miroku placed a hand on her shoulder and squeezed reassuringly.

"Kag's a smart girl, she won't let herself get hurt," he said softly. He then turned back to the overwrought half-demon who was about to wear a whole in the tile floor. "Inuyasha, I know how you're feeling right now, but your...." he was cut off by a dangerous glint in his friend's eyes. He growled, slammed his fists on the counter and looked Miroku straight in the face.

"You don't have a freakin' CLUE as to how I feel about this whole DAMN THING!! I understand that Kagome is your best friend, but it seems you have forgotten that this girl is the ONLY THING I GOT!! She was already sick before, and now she goes and pulls a stunt like this. I'll be lucky if she doesn't wind up with hypothermia or something. For all I know she could be lying half dead out in the snow, and I can't help her because haven't got the slightest idea where she could be. And that little fact is killing me. So don't you get in my face, saying you know how I feel, cause you don't," he said the last sentence quietly, too upset to yell anymore.

Miroku sighed and stared at his friend in sympathy, he could see that Inuyasha was literally suffering not knowing where the girl he loved more than anything in the world was.

"I can't take it anymore!! I'm gonna go look for her!!" Inuyasha cried, grabbing his coat off the chair and heading towards the door. Miroku grabbed him by the shoulder.

"Inuyasha, don't be stupid. You said it yourself, you don't have the slightest clue where she could be. What good are you if you end up getting lost yourself in this storm?" Miroku shouted, trying to knock some sense into the guy. Inuyasha looked out the window at the snow and wind that had decided to gain ten times as much force during the night. Even though he was a half demon, he would not be able to see three feet in front of him. Miroku was right, he would just have to wait and pray.

He sighed and sat down on the couch, throwing his coat to the ground in frustration. Just then a loud, roaring noise could be heard outside the door, and it wasn't just the howling of the wind. Inuyasha jumped back up, his heart beating wildly. Kagome burst through the front door, two black backpacks in hand, her tan skin nearly as white as Inuyasha's hair. She threw her entire body at the door to close it against the wind and then looked back at her friends.

She was panting hard, and was starting to get a really bad cough. She pulled off the goggles and gloves, dropped them next to the packs, and leaned against the door. "Do...Not...Go out.....There!!" she wheezed.
**************************
"Okay," Inuyasha said, smirking as he sat on the couch, looking at his girlfriend who had just come downstairs. "Now I know you're a swimmer." Kagome raised an eyebrow.

"Oh? And how is that?" she asked. He leaned back.

"It's about ten degrees outside, you've practically got pneumonia, and your walking around in flip flops." Kagome looked down at her feet which were wearing the black flip flops she wore to practice that had silver Nike signs on the top. She shrugged.

"I got socks on," Inuyasha chuckled, and reached out his arm, motioning for her to come. She walked over and he grabbed her waist, pulling her down into his lap. She rested her head against his chest and sniffed slightly.

It had been two days since her little "experience" and it had become abundantly clear that driving around in a snowstorm was not the smartest thing she had ever done in her life. But she didn't have pneumonia, just the worst cold in the history of the planet. When she had come home, Inuyasha had immediately taken her into his arms, telling her how happy he felt since she was safe and how furious he was she had done such a stupid thing. But Kagome didn't care, to be honest, the whole thing had scared her to death, and she was just happy to steal his warmth.

She had left the lodge a half and hour after she had left the cabin, sure that she was going to make her deadline to Sango. Mr. Totosai, the lodge manager had insisted that she stay for the night, or at least until the storm blew over, but she had declined, saying that her friends would worry too much. The snow had started falling harder since she had left and it was extremely difficult to see anything.

She wasn't sure when it happened, but Kagome had gotten lost along the way and it had taken her at least an hour to get back on the right path. She promised herself that from now on, when she had to go through another snowstorm like that, she would let Inuyasha drive.

Inuyasha rubbed her arm gently and kissed her forehead which was still hot from the unbroken fever. For the past few days, Kagome had been... well... "grounded" you could say. There was hardly a time, except when they slept, that the girl was out of the half demon's reach, let alone his sight. Sango and Miroku were still out skiing, leaving the two alone in the warm cabin. Inuyasha sighed and positioned Kagome so that he was looking in her eyes.

"Kagome, I've been wanting to ask you something for... well... a long time." he said. Kagome titled her head to the side and raised and eyebrow, a very cute confused expression in Inuyasha's book.

"Well," he continued. "I know that we've only been dating for a couple months, but it feels a lot longer than that, I guess since you've been my best friend for God knows how long. This is gonna seem really rushed and you and your grandfather are probably going to throttle me, but this is the only thing I could truly ever want. So Kagome..." He reached into his side pocket and pulled out a black velvet box which held a silver ring with a blue sapphire diamond.

"When we're done with school and everything... will you marry me?" Kagome gasped slightly and stared into her loved one's eyes, trying to see if there was any hint that this was some cruel joke. It wasn't, he was truly asking her to marry him. Her heart soared, for this too was the only thing that she could truly ever want. Inuyasha started to panic, she wasn't answering.

"I know this seems really stupid, I mean we're still in high school and stuff, but I talked to your mom and everything and she seemed.." he was cut off when Kagome kissed him, hugging his neck tightly. She pulled away.

"Yes, I'll marry you, Inuyasha. I don't think it's stupid at all." She said, her voice weak and slightly hoarse from her unceasing coughing fits. Inuyasha smiled and slipped the band on her left ring finger before kissing her passionately, crushing her body to his. He remembered the time in his life when he felt so alone and abandoned by his family. Kagome had changed all that, making him feel loved and like he belonged in her family. And now, he was going to spend the rest of his life with this angelic girl, his life couldn't get any better than this.

When the finally parted for air, Kagome leaned her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes as Inuyasha stroked her hair. "You know," she said softly. "Kikyo's gonna have a fit when she finds out." He laughed.

"Well, too bad for her." She smiled, and then erupted into a fit of coughs, damn cold!! Inuyasha rubbed her back and growled very lowly, lulling the poor girl into much needed sleep. He then hugged her waist tightly and leaned his head back on the armrest of the couch, thinking. He remembered Mrs. Higurashi's reaction when he had asked her about marrying Kagome. Inuyasha had been sure that the women would try to strangle him for even thinking about such a thing, but instead she had just hugged him saying how happy she was. Right away she started talking about invitations, guest, dresses, even though they weren't going to have the wedding until after college probably.

Inuyasha tried to think of the time when he had fallen in love with her. He started flashing back years ago to when he was fourteen.

(A/N: Yeah!!! More and more fluff, boy am I rushing this relationship or what?! Oh well, as I have said before I have no patience for these kind of things. Well, tell me what you think. Buh bye. 009)
