I looked at him critically. It might have been the lack of lighting, in the dark woods, but he looked incredibly pale. "If i promise to explain everything to you, will you leave these woods?" The hunger was fighting to come back, and fighting the urge to attack him was proving quite difficult. "Please, Gerard, if you don't go now...i don't know what will happen." He nodded, but still didn't move. "Tomorrow, I'll come to Starbucks, and i''ll explain everything. Actually no..bad idea, might be overheard. I'll come to yours tomorrow, and explain it all. I promise. Now go." i practically growled the last part. He understood, and left, glancing back only once. I needed to hunt once more. I wandered the woods, until i could smell the blood once more. Almost as soon as i smelt it, James's presence was back. "You shouldn't have let him go. The council will not be happy." "They may not be, but i am still their queen, and i shall do as i wish. James, you were human once, can you not understand how he must have felt? Thinking you know someone, then finding out you don't." "Its more than that though isn't it?" He looked at me, and i knew he could tell how i felt. "No. I mean, yes. It is. I...I...He has a brother...Mikey." James nodded. "I know the one you speak of. You are falling in love with him?" It wasn't a question, but i nodded in answer. "You need a husband, maybe him?" My head snapped up, and i growled at him, making him take a step back. "This is not the time for that. Do you smell it?" He nodded. "I have hunted already. But then...so have you. My queen, you are coming into your birth-rite. You did know this would happen?" No. I hadn't. But i didn't want him to know that. "Of course i did. James, find out who it is..If he has come back...I don't think i could stop myself." "It is not. It is an older man." I nodded, and went in to feed.

A few hours later, James and myself stood outside Mikey and Gee's house. All the lights were off, except for the basement. Gee's room. James looked at me questioningly. I shook my head. He was wondering if we were going in yet. But no. Now was not the time. We waited. About two hours later, we saw movement, then the light went off. The sun was about to rise, yet Gee was only just going to bed. "What now?" James whispered. "We continue to wait. I shall speak to him alone, though. Don't you have anything else to be doing?" He got the message that i did not want him here any longer, and left silently. I climbed the tree in the neighbours garden, and from there could get into the house, through Mikey's window. He looked like an angel, sleeping. I smiled, and touched his face softly. He stirred, but i was already leaving the room. I went down to the basement, and sat on Gee's floor to wait. I closed my eyes, crossed my legs, and went still. Before i knew it, it was morning. I made myself fade into the background. There are some perks to being a Vampire, you know. But it was only so i didn't scare Gerard when he first woke up. He yawned, stretched, and went into the bathroom. A few minutes later, he emerged, fully dressed, and a bit more awake. While he'd been in there, a woman, who i assumed was his mom, had come down, and left coffee. Almost instinctively he went over to it. I relaxed my will, and allowed myself to be seen. "Shit!" He jumped about a mile into the air. "How long have you - " "Since dawn. Don't worry, i didn't do anything." He looked shocked. "Does anyone know your here?" "Just James." I shrugged. He stared at me for a long moment. "Wouldn't it be better if someone, like, i don't know, my mom and Mikey, actually saw you arrive." He had a point, so i climbed out of the window, much to his amazement, and walked to the front door. Almost as soon as i knocked, Mikey answered. "Kate!" he smiled happily. "Hi! What are you doing here?!" "I just wanted to see you." It wasn't a lie, exactly, I did want to see Mikey, but there was also everything that needed to be explained. He grinned, and pulled me inside. "Mom! Gee! Kate's here!" His mom came and said hi, before she left for work, then we went (back) down to Gee's basement.

"So, explain." Gerard was sat on his bed, not even waiting for us to get down there properly. "Explain what?" Mikey looked at Gerard then to me, then back to Gee. "Kates not who we thought she was, Mikey. Not what we thought she was." He looked so confused, the poor boy. "Mikey..Sit down." I sighed. I would have to tell both of them. "I shouldn't be telling either of you this. If the council found out...You could both be killed. Its important that what i tell you know, goes no further. You cannot tell anyone. At all." They nodded. "Im not human. I'm a Vampire." Gerard looked like he was expecting that answer, Mikey's mouth hit the floor. "But.." "Please don't interrupt. This is going to take a long time to explain. Its easier if you do not question me just yet." I took out my contacts, and allowed them to see the real me. My hair colour changed to the deep black it actually was, and my eyes went back to the red colour they were naturally, and my fangs came back. "This is who i am. Who i really am. I drink human blood to survive, and there is no other alternative. I am seven hundred years old, and have lived in nearly every country on earth at one time or another." "But why did that James person call you 'my lady'?" Gee interrupted. I shot him a look, and he fell quiet. Mikey looked like he was going to faint...or cry...or both. "He calls me that, because i'm technically the Queen of Vampires. One of the only pure, and true vampire left." i could see that they didn't understand. "What i mean is, i was never human. I have always been like this. Many Vampires now, are what the old pure vampires have turned. Like your friend Megan. I turned her many years ago. But she does not know it was me." Mikey opened his mouth to speak. "She hasn't told you, because she would have had to kill you. The only reason i am telling you about us, is because Gee saw me last night, when i was hunting, and i owed it to you to explain." "If the council knew what she was doing you would be put to death." "Thank you James." I said through clenched teeth. "What he says is true, even though i told him, i would explain this all to you myself. But yes. i would either have to turn you, or allow the council to kill you." James looked at me. "You know you are making a mistake telling them. You should just have killed him last night." He leant close, so that they would not hear. "Enough James. I would not do that. Please return to France, and await my return." Mikey jumped up, looking horrified. "No! You can't leave." "It is best." I looked at him sadly. He came close, and took hold of my hands. i pulled my right hand out of his grasp, and touched his cheek, feeling the soft skin beneath my fingers. "This is for your safety, Mikey. If anything were to happen to you, because of me...I don't know what i'd do. I...I'm falling in love with you." His eyes filled with tears. "Please. Stay with me. I don't care what you are! I'm in love with you too! Please stay." James looked at us in disgust. "James! Do not do that! You know what it is like to love another. Remember Clarissa?" "Remember her? There is not a day passes when i do not think of my beloved wife. Not. A. Single. Day!" His words were punctuated with the sound of his fists hitting the wall. "I shall go back to France and warn the council of your arrival." I nodded, not taking my eyes away from Mikey. James made another sound of disgust in the back of his throat and left us. Gee also got up and made himself scarce. "Im sorry, Mikey. This is something i must do. I shall return to you. I promise." "Take me with you." He whispered. I smiled. That would be interesting, but too dangerous. I shook my head. "I must keep you safe. The council would kill you. James will be telling the school i have relative who have fallen ill, and i must go see them. You must remain here. I shall be back within a week." He nodded reluctantly, and i kissed him lightly, before taking my leave.
