Chapter 10 - Sarahs POV
Pain, everywhere. I couldn’t escape the burning, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t move, I couldn’t see. Fear coursed through my veins as I struggled against the bonds that held me and tried in vain to shake off the blindfold. Where am I? I thought, where’s Bradie? the last thing I remembered was waking up next to him, smoke rapidly filling the room, then nothing. Where was he? I wondered, What’s happened to him? I started to cry.
. . . . .
The noises I could hear were the consistent beeping of some machine, and the noise of someone’s ragged breath, was it Bradie? Nothing else, for hours, just the beeping and the breathing, time seemed to fold in upon itself.
. . . . .
Footsteps, the first other sound I had heard for hours. I tried to ask who it was, where I was, but all I could manage was a dry croak. My throat burned, it was so dry, it felt like sand-paper.
“Oh dear,” said a sweet voice, “I’d better get you some water right away.” whoever it was hurried out of the room.
Cool water trickled down my throat. “Bradie?” I asked weakly.
“Don’t worry darlin’ your boyfriend’s in the bed next to you, he’s fine, your lucky he was there you know, heard he pulled you out of a burning building he did,” said the sweet voice, “look darlin’, there’s two girls outside wanting to see you, you feeling up to it?”
“If you take off this stupid blind fold and whatever’s tying me down,” I answered weakly.
“I can untie you, but the blind fold needs to stay on sorry,” she said as she took off the bonds that were holding me. I slowly and painfully sat up.
“Oh my gosh Sarah!” said Kirrah, “Are you ok? oh, gosh stupid question, I’m so so sorry that we didn’t come earlier! but we only just found out! Oh gosh! Your eyes!”
My eyes? what about my eyes? I thought, then it hit me. “Nurse!” I said as loud as I could manage, “How bad are my eyes? am I… Blind?”
“I’m so sorry darlin’ but at this point, we don’t really know,” she explained apologetically, “we think they should heal within a two weeks if they are going to heal at all, But I do have to tell you, there is a chance that you will be blind.”
. . . . .
Bradie moaned as he woke up beside me. “Bradie!” I cried, “Bradie are you ok?”
“Sarah,” he whispered, “your alive, thank god, I thought I was going to lose you.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll never leave you if I can help it,” I said to him as I stretched my arm out towards him. He took my hand in his.
“I love you Sarah, so much, I couldn’t ever bare to lose you,” he said as my rubbed his thumb over my hand.
“I love you too Bradie,” I said with a smile.
“Well then, that settles it, your moving in with me,” He said cheerfully, “at least until your house is rebuilt, and to be a gentlemen, I’ll even sleep on the lounge.”
“You don’t have to sleep on the lounge you know,” I said with a cheeky smile.
“Well then,” he said, “I can’t wait until we get out of here.”
