Chapter 11 - Kirrahs POV
I ran away from Shaun, tears streaming down my face. How could he do that to me? I thought, I thought we had something special. I sprinted, head down all the way to Sarah’s street when I saw it. I pulled out my phone, and dialed 000 as I ran over to help the two unconscious figures that lay motionless on the grass.
. . . . .
I heard the sirens blaring in the distance, I just hoped they would get here in time. I had pulled Sarah and Bradie’s motionless bodies further from the blazing wreck that was once Sarah’s home. Hurry up, I thought, please, just hurry up.
. . . . .
I followed the ambulance to the hospital. I pushed what had just happened between me and Shaun, to the back of my mind, but I could still feel it there, the pain pushing through every now and then, making hot tears well in my eyes.
. . . . .
“I’m sorry, but you can’t see them right now, the doctor’s still working on them,” Said the receptionist, “please go wait over there and I will tell you when you can go in.”
I resigned myself to a long wait. Ezme! I thought, she doesn’t know!
“Hullo?” sobbed Ezme, but I didn’t have time to worry about what was wrong with her.
“Hey, Ezme, it’s Kirrah, you need to come to the hospital, like, right now!” I rushed.
“What!?” she asked sounding shocked, “whats happened?!”
“Uh, well there’s been a fire, Sarah’s house burnt down and Sarah and Bradie were in it,” I explained.
“Yeah I’ll be there as fast as I can,” she said and hung up.
. . . . .
“Where are they,” asked Ezme, she looked so sad.
“They’re Ok,” I reassured her, “but we’re not allowed in yet, so now, tell me why you sounded do sad when you answered the phone?”
She broke into tears. “I-I did something stupid,” she sobbed, “I didn’t mean to, but it just happened!”
“What happened? you need to calm down, it’s going to be Ok,” I said to her.
“But I cheated on him!” she cried, “I cheated on him, with Lucy.” her voice faded to a broken whisper.
“Oh,” I said, shocked, “I didn’t know you were-“ but she cut me off.
“Neither did I until then,” she said, “but I still love him, I regret what happened with Lucy now, but I don’t know how to fix it.”
“Girls!” called the receptionist, “you can go in now!” all other worries faded away as we walked into the room.
. . . . .
Sarah was sitting up when we walked in, but Bradie was still unconscious. Her hair was singed, there were burns along her arms and legs, her eyes were bandaged over, there were so many tubes sticking into her.
“Oh my gosh Sarah!” I said , “Are you ok? oh, gosh stupid question, I’m so so sorry that we didn’t come earlier! but we only just found out! Oh gosh! Your eyes!”
“Nurse!” she said as loud as she could manage, “How bad are my eyes? am I… Blind?”
“I’m so sorry darlin’ but at this point, we don’t really know,” she explained to Sarah apologetically, “we think they should heal within a two weeks if they are going to heal at all, But I do have to tell you, there is a chance that you will be blind.”
“I’m sure everything will be just fine,” said Ezme, trying to reassure her. It was lucky that Sarah couldn’t see, Ezme and I both had a worried look on our faces, but the main reason was Bradie, burns covered his legs and arms, with a few smaller ones on his face, even more tubes sticking out of him than Sarah, we was a wreck.
. . . . .
We stayed there for hours, Bradie still hadn’t woken up, Sarah had said that she needed a distraction and had asked how our nights with the boys had been. that was so awkward. when I talked about it, I felt my heart rip again. Looks like all of our dates ended badly, I thought.
“Sorry girls, but visiting hours are up,” said the nurse.
“Look, I know this is going to be hard, and don’t tell them until tomorrow, we don’t want them rushing in and getting in trouble, but you guys have to tell Shaun and Andy, they’ll want to know about Bradie,” said Sarah as we rose to leave.
“Yeah, I guess we will,” said Ezme as we walked out.
. . . . .
“Hi Shaun,” I said into the phone.
“Kirrah! Look im so so-“ He rushed
“Look, I don’t want to hear it, this is about Sarah and Bradie, They’re in hospital. I just rang to let you know,” I cut him off, “bye Shaun.”
As I hung up I felt my heart rip yet again, how many times can my heart be broken? I thought, hot tears welled in my eyes and spilled down my face.
