Gerard's POV.

Gerard woke with a feeling of someones eyes on him. He opened his blearily, the sunlight streaming in from the window causing him to furrow his brow. He had a headache. He turned in the bed slowly, so he was half sitting up, and saw that there was someone sitting next to his bed.
'Good morning, Gerard,' the voice said, and Gerard realised with a peculiar feeling in his stomach that it was Dr Iero. He felt almost uncomfortable, and made a poorly disguised attempt to pull the covers over his body. 'Um, morning.'
'How are you feeling today?' the doctor asked, seemingly unaware of how uncomfortable the older man felt.
'Better. Thanks. A bit of a headache though.' He stifled a yawn, his hair flopping into his face.
The young doctor smiled. 'Yes, I thought you might.' Gerard realised from a quick glance at the cabinet that two tablets had been left on the surface, as well as a small cup of water. The white plastic still had beads of water on the outside, meaning it had been sat there recently. Gerard wondered how long the doctor had been watching him.
'Um... how long have you been here? If you don't mind me asking.'
Dr Iero smiled. 'Not long. Don't worry, I havent been spying.'
Gerard smiled in spite of himself. For a doctor, he thought, he really wasn't too bad. At least he wasn't spiking needles into him at every possible opportunity.
'I was actually wanting to see if you wanted to try something new today? Nothing bad,' the doctor added as he saw the slight panic in his patients eyes. 'I've asked the Nurse for permission to take you out today, if you felt up for it. Just around the grounds.'
Gerard felt his face light up. 'You mean it?' Dr Iero smiled.
'Yes, I mean it. I'll take that as a yes from you too, I'll give you five minutes to get changed.' As soon as the door closed Gerard's face broke into a huge and lopsided grin. He realised it was probably not normal for someone to get this excited about going for a walk. But then again, Gerard giggled as he pulled a t-shirt over his head, he definitely was not normal.

Frank's POV .

Five minutes later, Gerard was beaming in delight as the cold wind whipped colour into his usually pallid cheeks. Frank couldn't help but smile too - the older man looked so much like a child. Gerard turned to him and, laughing, said 'Is it obvious I don't get out much?' He giggled at his own joke as he wandered down the small path of the hospitals garden. Frank followed behind him, observing the slight bounce in his step. This had definitely been a good descision. Gerard turned round quickly and Frank tried to look as though he had been looking at thte ground. 'Hey?' Gerard said over his shoulder, 'I've never actually asked, what do you want me to call you?'
'Frank will do fine. Or Frankie, if that makes you feel more comfortable.'
Gerard smiled. 'Yeah, Frank's good. Dr Iero makes you sound all old and unattractive.'
Frank laughed. 'Well, I'd like to think I'm not either of those things.'
'You're certainly not,' Gerard said smirking slightly, his pace quickening as Frank's face flushed. Clearly, Frank's reminder to keep a better reign on his emotions had not worked.

Gerard's POV.

All too soon, they were back inside the building. Gerard's face and hands were stinging from the icy wind and his hair was all over the place, but he couldn't stop smiling. This was a victory, however small - he had proved to himself that he could leave the hospital. He was getting better. This thought stayed with him as he changed back into his bed clothes, shuffling under the sheets. There was a quiet knock on the door, and Frank popped his head round the frame. 'Just checking in. I'll be down the corridor if you need me.'
Gerard furrowed his brow. 'Are you always here at night?'
'No,' the younger man said. 'But I am tonight, so yell if you need me.' Frank turned to leave, but Gerard stopped him by calling after him. 'Frank? Thank you for today. Seriously. Thats probably the most I've enjoyed myself since I got here.' Gerard smiled and waved his hand in a beckoning gesture. Frank walked slowly towards the bed, his small nose wrinkling in confusion. Gerard couldn't help but laugh. 'I'm not going to bite, silly, come here!' Gerard bit back a giggle as the young man stared awkardly at his patients now outstretched arms. His face took on a slight pink tinge not unlike his blush from earlier. That, Gerard had to admit, was very cute. 'I'm trying to hug you, not torture you.' Gerard rolled his eyes as Frank finally realised what he was waiting on. The hug was slightly awkward, but Gerard intended to make the most of it. He buried his face slightly into the crook of Frank's neck, inhaling the scent of smoke and holding him for slightly longer than he supposed was appropriate. Once they had pulled apart, Frank laughed silently and said, 'Is it obvious I don't get out much?' Gerard smiled back. 'It'll come with practice. 'Night Frank.'
'Goodnight, Gerard.' Frank smiled once more and left the room.
The sun was already setting, the trees outside casting long, jagged shadows over the grass. Gerard leaned back, resting his head on the pillow and bracing himself for the footsteps of the nightnurse. He concentrated, instead, on the events of the day - the smell of fresh air, the breeze which stung at any exposed skin... he was asleep before the light was turned out, and he didn't dream.
