The next day I took the kids to school, telling them to wait for me to pick them up. It made me late enough that I completely missed first block, not that I really cared. Second block gave me a detention for being late, third was nothing but odd stares and silence, fourth however, had a familiar obnoxious boy with blond hair, dark highlights shinning in the dull fluorescent lights. He grinned when he spotted me, sitting in the spot in front of me.
"Hey, B." That was the first time anyone's ever called me that.
"I thought you went to the private school?" He shook his head with a large impish grin on his face.
"Got kicked out and sent here. Now I get to go to public school!"There were traces of sarcasm in his voice, but he kept the same smirk that he always carried. The bell rang, and he continued to talk in a whispered voice. "So, the guys and I are doing this thing tonight, do you wanna come with?"
"I don't know if I can. I have two foster brothers who need me." His eyes seemed to continue to plead and beg, I gave a sigh. "I'll try okay?" His grin went back to his lips. He took my right arm, rolling up my sleeve to scribble on it. I was just happy it wasn't my left, knowing that the cuts would once again be questioned.
"Here's the address, we're meeting at nine. Oh, and wear shoes you can run in." I raised an eyebrow, and he smiled at me. "It'll be fun."
Lunch was interesting, to say the least. Ryan once again wasn't present, and Jon and Spencer seemed to be having a somewhat serious conversation, Jack and the boy who was almost always around him were sitting in the grass next to the other two. Jack was the first to start talking to me, and for the first few minutes, I listened. But, when Alex walked out I was too busy listening to what Spencer had to say to him
"Where's Ryan?" Alex whispered the words, thinking that no one could hear him.
"His dad's in hospital." Spencer whispered back before turning to me. "So Brendon, you going to the party later?" I shrugged, fiddling with my sleeves.
"I want to." I mumbled, looking down. Jon and Jack were talking to the boy name Rian, and I wished that I could join their conversation then being stuck with talking about the one topic I didn't really want to touch.
"But?" Spencer asked as he looked at me. I gave a small sigh.
"I'm not sure I'll be able to." Alex gave him a pleading look, something that I'm sure was supposed to be discrete.
"Why is that?" I ran a hand through my hair, wondering why it was so important that I go to it.
"I have to watch my foster brothers." Jon turned to look at us.
"Awh, Brendon, that's so sweet!" I blushed a little. Spencer and Jon grinned at me.
"I can take care of them if you want." I stared at them, shocked that they would offer. It was just a little get together, why were they pushing me to go? "And Jon can take you there if you need a ride or something." It took me a minute of thinking, trying to understand why I had to go.
"All right, I'll go." They all grinned.
I was in a rush to get out of school the moment the bell rang so I wouldn't be late picking up the boys. But, as my luck would have it, I got pushed and punched on my way out the door. You would think that the assholes would want to leave just as well, but apparently not. Because what could be better than beating up a kid who you don't know? I stayed n the floor for a few minutes afterwords, trying to calm myself. I felt a hand on my shoulder and looked up to see a brightly smiling face.
"You okay B?" I smiled up at Alex, brushing myself off as I started to stand.
"I'm fine." He reached out for my face, brushing the hair out of it.
"Looks like you're going to get a bruise. You sure you're okay?" I nodded. "Don't worry about those guys, their dicks. Do you wanna ride home from school?" I looked at him for a few moments before nodding my head.
"That sounds nice." I followed him out to his car, amazed that he was willing to take not only me, but my foster brothers home. He pulled up to the first school, the kids not being released. He stopped the car, and pulled out a pack of cigarettes, offering me one. I accepted and he lit it for me, a smile on his face as he lit his own. I took a drag, loving the feeling of the smoke filling my lungs. I watched as he tapped his ash out of the window, the burnt embers falling to the ground.
"Brendon, are you dating anyone?" I raised an eyebrow. He took another drag, flicking off the ash once more.
"No, why?" He blushed a little, looking away from me as he blew out the smoke he had inhaled.
"I was just thinking that if you were you would want to bring them to the get together tonight." He smiled up at me as I took another drag. "And I'm glad that you won't."
He took me and the kids home, talking to me the whole way. Both of the boys seemed to get along with him well, which I couldn't help but find to be a good thing. In those few minutes, I realized that I got along with him better than I got along with most people. He genuinely made me happy. He dropped us off at our home, smiling as he asked if he would see me later that night. I told him that I wouldn't miss it for anything. The boys and I walked back in, and I couldn't help but feel excited for the inevitable.
The kids watched some cartoon as I made them a snack, loving the idea of actually getting close to someone while at the same time hating it. The next few hours ticked by, and I found myself desperate for Spencer and Jon to show up. What I got was far worse than the two people I was close to calling friends. The supposed father of the family came home drunk at seven. I rushed the kids to their room, telling them to stay there until I told them it was okay to leave. I hated the scared looks on their faces, it broke my heart to see it. I forced myself to stand in the hall, hearing his heavy footsteps. I closed my eyes, and heard the echoing sound of skin against skin before I felt it. The carpet was under me, and I looked up to see him smirking at me.
"Look at you, you pathetic cock sucker." He unbuckled his pants, staring down at me with a menacing look. "You like sucking cock? Then try mine." It was shoved down my throat, and I was sure that if I hadn't actually had practice doing it that I would have vomited. Closing my eyes, I forced myself to do what he wanted, telling myself that it would be over soon. Luckily it was, and he spilled out on me, making me feel even worse than I had before. "Pathetic." I watched him leave, standing on two shaky legs.
Shower, clothes, combed hair, slight eyeliner, the doorbell rang. I told the kids to get out of their room and we all went downstairs. There was a smile on my face when I answered the door, feeling overly relieved knowing for a fact that it was Spencer. He grinned at me.
"Hi Brendon. Jon's waiting in the car for you."
"Okay. Look Spencer-" I sighed. "If their dad comes home, hide in their room, okay?" His brows furrowed.
"Brendon, is there something you're not telling me?" I shook my head and gave him a smile.
"Just do this for me?" He nodded.
"All right. Have a good time." He smiled and I walked out, making my way to Jon's car. "Oh, and Brendon," I turned to face him. "You look nice." I blushed a little, getting into Jon's car. We made small talk on the way there, Jon seeming to have similar taste in music as me, amongst other things. It didn't take long for Jon to pull up to a mostly empty parking lot, leading to a tennis field. It was there, that the group of kids sat. We walked up, and I counted heads. The first three didn't at all come as a surprise. Jack, Rian, Alex. But the last three, confused the fuck out of me. It looked to be William, Ryan, and Andy. It looked like they were doing something, though, I couldn't tell what that was.
It wasn't until I sat down next to Alex and William that I figured out what it was they were doing. Joints were being passed around, empty bottles scattering the ground while half full bottles stayed in peoples hands and by their crossed legs.
"Hey B~ Want some?" I took the joint from Alex, staring at his large grin. I took a drag, and smiled at him, passing the joint back. There were looks that were exchanged, all of them going to Alex who seemed to swallow air. "Can I talk to you in private?" He whispered in my ear. I nodded, and we both stood. I couldn't help but notice the disappointed look on Ryan's face was we walked away. Once we were far enough away from the group that I was sure none of them could hear, or even see us, I spoke.
"So what do you want to talk about?" He looked at me, blushing as he shoved his hands in his pockets.
"Brendon..." He took a deep breath, staring into my eyes. "I like..." He closed his eyes. "Let me show you." He pushed the hair out of my face once more, cupping it in his hand. I could feel my heart beating, my breathing racing as I thought about what was going to happen. It wasn't like I hadn't seen movies, I knew exactly what he was going to do, and it made me nervous for reasons I couldn't comprehend.
His lips pressed against mine, and I sank into the feeling, wrapping my arms around his neck. His hands fell to my hips, his fingers looping into my belt loops so he could pull my body closer to his own. It was like nothing I had ever felt before, and I found myself falling for his taste; alcohol, candy and cigarettes making an overly sweet taste. He pulled away.
"Alex." I mumbled as I stared into his eyes, feeling completely at ease in his arms. He smiled at me, still blushing ever so slightly.
"B, will you be my boyfriend?" I laughed a little.
"Of course." He grinned, and I once again felt his lips against my own.
