I rolled over, staring at Frank lying beside me. I couldn't believe that he was here, next to me in my bed. I couldn't help but smile at him. He was the most amazing thing I had ever seen in my whole life. I never wanted to be with anyone else.
His hair was all ruffled, a very sexy look on him. What did I do to deserve this? How did I get so lucky as to have this amazing man sleeping beside me? I wished this would never end. I wanted to wake up next to him every morning for the rest of my life.
Reluctantly, I slowly slid off my bed. Quietly I left Frank sleeping in my bedroom. I made my way to the kitchen. I grabbed two bowls, a box of cereal and milk. I was just about to pour the cereal into the bowls when I felt two arms reach around my waist. Frank leaned against my back and I couldn't help but smile. Everything about this moment was perfect.
I turned around to face him and he smiled at me. “Thanks for letting me stay over.”
I nodded, “It was my pleasure.” I leaned down and kissed him. I felt his hands on either side of my face, while my hands rested on his waist. I pulled him to me, and held him tightly.
Too soon, I felt him pull away from me. He stared into my eyes, just smiling. His eyes were the most amazing color I had ever seen. Brown with gold flecks. They were brilliant. I could see myself spending the rest of eternity looking into those eyes. I placed my hands on top of his, just enjoying the closeness of the moment.
I saw sadness pass over his face and then he stepped away from me. He shook his head, his black hair falling in his face. I wanted to move the hairs out of his face, but I knew I shouldn't. He glanced down at his hands and started playing with his ring finger.
That was the first time I noticed that he was no longer wearing his wedding ring. I couldn't believe I hadn't noticed it before. I sighed and took his hands in mine. “We don't have to do this if you don't want to. I understand.” It killed me to say the words. “You still love Sam.”
He shook his head, looking up at me. I could see tears starting to fall down his cheeks. “You're right, I do love Sam.” He paused, “But, the last thing he told me before he died was that he wanted me to move on. So, I'm trying.” He smiled, “It hurts because it feels like I'm cheating on him, but then it feels so right being with you.” He wrapped his arms around my waist and buried his face in my chest, “I want this to work.”
I nodded and kissed the top of his head, “I want this to work too.” I wanted nothing more than for it to work. I needed him in my life. No matter what I wouldn't let anything come between us. Not even Jimmy. I would kill him before I let him do anything to tear me away from Frank.

After Frank left for work, I headed downstairs to the main desk. I was a little surprised when I saw no one standing behind the counter. Usually Derek is always there. He's never in his office, only because he actually likes to talk to the residents of the building, and the residents like talking to him. I can't remember a time when he was never not at his desk. He never took sick days because he lived in the building. Just more evidence that the new person was placed there by Jimmy.
Cautiously, I walked up to the desk and rang the bell. Shortly after the man who gave me the package yesterday walked to the desk. He smiled, “What can I help you with?”
My eyes narrowed, “Did you find out anything about Derek?”
He shrugged, “He called in this morning saying that he found another job.”
“Do you know if he's home? I need to talk to him about something.” I asked, suspicious. I already knew the answer I would get, but I wanted to ask anyway. Just to make sure I was right.
The man shrugged, “No, he moved last night. I don't know where he went.”
I nodded. Just as I suspected. Jimmy had somehow gotten rid of Derek and placed this person here to watch me. “Well, I'll just take my mail then. Room 408.”
The man turned around and grabbed the mail out of the slot. He handed it to me and smiled again. “My name is Joe, by the way.”
Without another word, I took my mail up to my apartment. I shut my door and locked it. I feared that Jimmy had Derek killed. That was the only explanation. Even if Derek was bribed, he never would have just left. He was probably dead somewhere, all because Jimmy wanted to get to me. I felt sick.
