The only thing that got me through work that day was thinking about Gerard. I still couldn't believe what had happened. That kiss was magical. It was the start of something amazing. I could see myself spending the rest of my life with Gerard.
It was a little strange thinking about it, but I knew it was true. Even though we had just met, it felt like we had known each other our whole lives. Sam would be happy. I still loved him, but I wasn't going to sit around and mope either. He wanted me to be happy and to move on. That was exactly what I was doing.
I clocked out at about four and headed home. The whole way home I continued thinking about Gerard. Ever since our kiss, I had wanted so much more. I needed more. I wasn't going to let thoughts of Sam prevent me from being happy with Gerard.
After the short five minute drive the my apartment, I parked in the lot and quickly headed up the four flights of stairs. I walked into my apartment and flipped on the lights. I hurried to my bedroom and quickly changed into a pair of regular blue jeans and an old black t-shirt. As soon as I was changed, I left my apartment. I stood in the hallway for a few seconds, just staring at Gerard's door.
He had told me to come back over as soon as I got off work, that he should be home. I took a deep breath before knocking on the door. If felt like I was standing there forever before he answered the door.
Before I could say anything he wrapped his arms around me and pulled me to him. I felt his chapped lips on mine and I couldn't help but smile. I felt like I was living a dream. This was too good to be true.
Too soon, Gerard's lips left mine and he smiled down at me. I felt his hands slide into the back pockets of my jeans while my hands rested on his hips. He smiled, “I was thinking about going somewhere. What do you think?”
I shrugged, “I don't care. It's up to you.”
He smirked and kissed my forehead before pulling me into his apartment and shutting the door behind us. “Well, I'm going to get dressed and then we'll go.”
I studied his clothes; a plain blue t-shirt and black jeans. He looked fine to go out. Then I thought about what I was wearing. If we were headed somewhere fancy, I should probably wear something else. I frowned, “Should I change?”
He shook his head, “No you're fine. You're always fine.” I felt my cheeks get warm at his last comment. I shoved my hands in my jeans pockets and looked down at the floor, avoiding his gaze. I didn't look up again until I heard his bedroom door close.
I waited a few seconds before I sat down on the couch. I smiled, taking in the smells. The whole place smelled like Gerard. I wished I could sit here forever, and never have to leave. I heard Gerard's bedroom door open and I watched as he walked out. Now he had on a plain white shirt white huge black letters that read I know you are, but what am I?. He changed from black jeans into blue ones, and he was carrying a pair of black converse to the couch.
He sat down beside me and started putting his shoes on. As soon as he was done, he stood up and stuck his hand out for me to grab. I took his hand and he pulled me off the couch in one swift motion. It wasn't until that moment that I realized how strong he was.
He smiled, interlocking our fingers, “And away we go.”
I couldn't help but laugh. Hand in hand we walked out of his apartment and down the stairs to the lobby. As we walked out of the building, I couldn't help but notice Gerard shoot a nasty look at the man who was sitting at the front desk. I pushed it out of my mind, not thinking too much about it.
We continued on, outside the building and toward Gerard's car. He unlocked it and then pulled open the passenger side door for me. Once I was seated, he closed the door and ran around the the driver's side. Within seconds, he had started the car and we were headed out.
I had no idea where we were going, but I knew we would have a great time.
After about ten minutes of driving around town, he pulled into the parking lot of some restaurant. It didn't look fancy, but it wasn't the kind of place someone would go every night. He parked the car and turned to face me, “This place has the best spaghetti. You're going to love it.”
I smiled, stepping out of the car. I started toward the building when I felt Gerard take my hand. Once inside I noticed there were only a few other people there. There was a family of four in the very back and three or four couples all sitting in booths.
We walked to the desk and within seconds a person came and led us to a booth in the back of the restaurant. As we were sitting down she asked, “Can I get you something to drink?”
Gerard nodded, “I'll have some iced tea.”
She wrote something down on her notepad, “With lemon?”
Gerard shook his head, “No thank you.”
She looked up at me, “Umm, just ice water.” She nodded, and left us alone in the booth. I looked at Gerard, “So, the spaghetti is excellent?”
He nodded, “It's the best I've ever had. I come in here all the time thinking I'll order something else, but end up getting it every time.” He laughed, “In fact, I'm going to order some right now.”
I was about to say something when the waitress came back with our drinks. She took out her notepad, “Ready to order, or do you still need a few minutes?”
Gerard glanced at me and I nodded, “I'll have the spaghetti.”
She nodded, looking at me, “And for you?”
“Same.” I watched as she finished writing something down and then she walked back to the kitchen. When she was out of view I turned my attention back to Gerard. He smiled and reached across the table, grabbing my hands. I instantly had a flash back of when Same proposed to me. It was at a place just like this. I thought it was the most romantic thing ever.
I shook my head, forcing all thoughts of Sam out of my mind. I was here with Gerard. I was going to enjoy my dinner with him, and not think about Sam anymore. I needed to move on, and I was going to do just that with Gerard's help.
