Jamia’s POV
I was placing some cookies onto a tray and pressing the cafetieré when I heard the door knocking again. I called through to Frankie in the lounge, who was playing with the girls, to answer the door for me. He knew to expect our new friends; I could tell we were going to get on well with them, me and Frank. I heard the door creak and their unfamiliar accents coming closer to me as I carried the tray through to the lounge where Frank had sat them down. I could tell they were worn out, looking at the happiness on their faces to see some food and strong coffee to revive them after a long day. Frank had immediately noticed the black t-shirt Toyah was wearing with “Na Na Na” written across it, and didn’t seem sure whether to take these girls as crazy stalker girls or genuine down-to-earth young women. I tried to reassure them by giving Frank a small frown across the room. He responded with “Hey! What the f...heck are you doing?!” and a small glance down to find Cherry clambering up his black skinny jeans, leaving a trail of drool behind her.
“Babe, don’t be anti-social!” he said as I took my phone out of my pocket.
“This needs to go on Twitter!” Toyah and Aimee giggled at me and Frank began to talk to them while holding Cherry on his knee. He began with the obvious: Where did they come from? Why did they come to Jersey? The girls didn’t stay as long as I had hoped, but obviously they needed home to unpack and get settled in for tonight at least. I sent Frankie round with them to help, so he set Cherry down on the floor again with Lily where I sat with them. The girls got up, took their bags and Frank lifted his cardigan as he left through the front door.
Aimee’s POV
We got back to the house and I opened the front door, letting Frank in first then Toyah and I followed. Toyah led Frank upstairs to the boxes and cases I’d moved about earlier. Frank carried the heavier boxes through the house and I followed him with a lighter one. When we returned to the pile of boxes, Toyah had disappeared. I didn’t think much of it, so continued on chatting to Frank while unpacking the boxes and moving objects to their rightful places. After a good fifteen minutes, there was still no sign of Toyah; even Frank had noticed her disappearance. He got up off his knees and dandered down the wooden staircase, the squeak of his Converse on the floor.
Toyah’s POV
“Hey,” I heard Frank enter the kitchen while speaking in a gentle, hushed tone, making him sound like I could confide in him. “What’s up? Missing home?”
I sniffed, wiping the tears on the cuff of my sleeve.
“If there’s anything you want to say, you can trust me. I won’t whisper a word to anyone. Promise.” He put a muscular arm round me, pulling me ever closer to his warm body, an amazing smell rising from that cardigan of his.
“It’s...it’s nothing...really...” I said, choking on my tears. “It’s just...I’ve always wanted to come to Jersey and...now I’m here and...well...well...”
“Well?”
“You’re the reason I wanted to come. And I never even dreamed of living near you never mind have you in my house, helping me settle in!”
He looked at me blankly. I looked back into his deep hazel eyes, wondering if I’d said too much and made him lose his trust in me.
“Look, babe, I know it’s a shock but before you know it I’ll just seem like another dude from the States. The guy next door; nobody special.” Hold on. Did Frank just call me babe? Me? This couldn’t be happening. “Hey, if you want, you and Aimee should come round to our place tomorrow afternoon. I’m pumped for what’s happening and I’m pretty sure you’d wanna be there.”
He took out a slip of paper lifted a pen that was lying on the worktop and scribbled something down and handed me the paper. Oh my gosh. I was now holding Frank Iero’s number in my hand. This day just could not get any better. My life was now complete. I smiled up at his beautiful face, his undeniable cuteness looking back at me. He helped me by putting some things into cupboards and then ran up the stairs again to check on Aimee. He came back down pretty quickly, implying that most of the work was done.
“Guys, I’m gonna go now!” I heard a shout throughout the house followed by the front door closing. I got up and ran hurriedly through the house, opening the door just before he left the driveway.
“Frank!”
“Yeah...”
“Thank you so much for all your hard work. It’s much appreciated.”
“No worries! If you need a hand any time, I’m always here.”
“Well, nearly always” I muttered with a smile.
He smiled back, that indescribably perfect look on his face. He gave a quick wave and went on his way. I shut the door quietly, turning round to go up the stairs to see Aimee. She obviously heard me coming up, she ran down the corridor to see me.
“Where have you been?” she said, an anxious look upon her face.
“Downstairs. Sorting stuff.”
“Seriously? You’ve been really quiet! What’s up?”
“Nothing, but guess what!”
“I’m fed up with these guessing games! Why can’t you just tell me things straight off!” she laughed.
“Okay, okay. Frankie’s invited us round to his place tomorrow afternoon. Something’s happening and he’s really pumped for it...but I have no idea what it is...” I trailed off.
Aimee looked at me.
“So I’m left guessing. Again,” she scowled.
“Yep. Unfortunately.” I pulled my phone out of my pocket. “Oh my word, look at the time! Come on Aimee, we need to get some food and stuff!”
“Good point.” She lifted her bag from the bed and we both headed down the stairs. This day was pretty tiring, so a quick shop and straight to bed was much needed by both of us, especially as we prepared for what Frank had in store for us tomorrow.
