Chapter 28: We Came to Party, Kill the Party Tonight

Frank’s POV:

I can honestly say this winter break has been a whirlwind. I had no idea what was going to happen next. But, it was finally New Year’s Eve and I could not have been any more excited that Gerard and I were on good terms and were going to able to celebrate it together. I was even more happy that the whole group was gonna be at Bob’s tonight and there wasn’t going to be any more awkward tension. I felt the cold New Jersey air try to pierce through my armor of layers of clothing as I walked to Bob’s. The snow was falling hard; I had to keep my eyes focused on the ground because if I looked straight ahead it would just fly into my eyes. As I walked I just let thoughts flow through my head. Thinking about Gerard and me at the park the other night. We went from wanting to slit each other’s throats to just hanging out like old times. We got some beer and acted like complete fools. I remember at one point Gee was rolling himself in the snow and just laughing hysterically. I couldn’t help but wonder if he had thought about not giving up on Rachel. I know we both said we were gonna let her decide, but if I knew the Gerard the way I thought I did he wouldn’t just quit cold turkey. But I was pretty sure our friendship meant more to him than a girl. If I had to be honest, maybe Rachel is right, maybe we are just better off as friends for now. Maybe in the future we could have a chance, but not now. It all depends… on what? I have no idea. It’s about to be a new year. Maybe I would meet a girl that was available to me. It all depends; I can’t pine after Rachel forever. Maybe tonight things would be different. But I highly doubted it. I had finally arrived at Bob’s, but truthfully I had forgotten that I was walking. I pushed all my thoughts aside as I turned the doorknob and entered the party.

“FRAAAANK!” Bob yelled, as he wrapped me into a death grip that he called a hug.

“What up dude!” I exclaimed. I took a good look at Bob; he was in a Metallica shirt, black jeans. But he was wearing and2013 hat and glasses. This looked ridiculous on him, by the way.

“Just ready to ring in the New Year and get fucked up!!” he roared, and the whole party responded back with a cheer.

“Same here! Bring me to the shots my brotha!” I followed Bob through the crowd of people to the kitchen. I never knew how Bob knew so many people; he didn’t look like the friendliest guy. But I never questioned it because his parties were always kickass.

I walked into the kitchen to see Mikey blowing a cardboard paper party horn in Gerard’s ear. I could see the annoyed expression on Gerard’s face as he just sat there drinking his beer not amused by his younger brother.

“Mikey come o—“the sound of the horn cut him off.

“I am sorry dear brother, what is that you said for some reason I couldn't hear you.” Mikey grinned at him.

“Serious—“the horn interjected again.

“What, I can’t seem to make out the words.” Mikey was clearly enjoying pissing his
brother off. Bob and I laughed with the youngest Way as he set up the shots.

“If you don—“the horn went off again.

Suddenly Gerard yanked the horn out of Mikey’s mouth, ripped it to shreds, and threw it back in his face.

“Gerard what the fuck!” Mikey exclaimed he had the face of a child whose favorite toy was just broken.

“I tried to warn you, but you had to be a little smart ass.” Gerard laughed and sipped his beer. “Oh shit, Frank and Bob I didn’t even see you guys there!” Gerard acknowledged our presence and Mikey waved.

“Where’s Laura at?” I looked at Mikey confused, those two were always together.

“On her way with Rachel; they had to get ready together. I don’t understand why girls always need to do so much stuff together.” He sighed.

“Well you guys its 10:00 and I am still seeing straight, let’s fix that.” Bob smirked deviously and slid each of us four shots.

“You gotta take them all right now.” I looked straight at Mikey, because I knew he was gonna try and bitch out.

“Ah, fuck, my liver is gonna kill me.” Mikey sighed.

“To the fucking New Year!” Gerard raised his first shot, and we were off.
The liquid burned the back of my throat as it ran down it. It made it worse that we did all four back to back. When I lifted my head up I felt a slight buzz.

“Let’s get shitty!” Gerard exclaimed as he shook of the bitter taste of the alcohol. But Gerard was like a machine when it came to drinking. He would down drinks left to right within a matter of seconds.

I was excited for tonight, excited to be with my friends again.

Rachel’s POV:

“As always we arrive fashionably late.” Laura said aloofly as she closed Bob’s front door.

“Yeah only because the hair dryer exploded and had us totally bugging.” I laughed.

“Oh, hush peasant and fetch me a drink.” She waved her handed at me.

“Okay, your majesty.” I laughed back at her, grabbing her hand and pulling her through all the people in tiny house.

We made our way to the kitchen only to find Mikey, Bob, Ray, Gerard, and Frank all standing around the counter. I was only hoping this wouldn’t be awkward. Gerard and Frank were laughing hysterically at something. Neither them had noticed me when I first walked in which I was thankful for. The last time Gerard and I were at the same party things didn’t go very well. My mind flashed back to the night at this very house where we got into a stupid fight and he had sex with another girl. I walked to the fridge and pulled out two beers. I tossed on to Laura and cracked mine open, taking a couple of huge gulps. I was going slyly leave the kitchen but I was stopped by both
Gerard and Frank.

“Hey Rach!” they said simultaneously. I can’t lie and say it wasn’t weird, because it was really fucking weird.

A few days ago these boys were fighting over me and now they are back to being best friends. I couldn’t be happier for them, but Gerard’s words lingered in the back of my mind about how he wasn’t going to give up. I pushed these thoughts to the back of my mind when I realized I had just been staring at the two them for a few minutes now.

“Oh hey you guys!” I exclaimed

“You enjoying the party.” Gerard grinned slightly at me.

“Yeah it’s awesome, in one hour it will be a new year!” I smiled, grateful for a fresh start.

“Yeah it’ll be awesome.” He smiled sheepishly.

“Well cheers to rebuilding old friendships!” I shouted and raised my beer, and Frank and Gerard clanked there’s against it.

“AND TO GETTING FUCKED UP!!!!” Bob suddenly appeared over my shoulder.

“That’s what I am talking about!” I shouted and started chugging beer after beer.

Frank’s POV:

I was feeling pretty good when I sat down on the yellow couch covered in plastic in Bob’s living room. His Mom covered all the furniture in plastic, it kinda creeped me out. But at least if I spilled anything it wouldn’t stain. I looked around at everyone all the jocks that had crept their way in to the party because they Bob threw the best parties, all the single girls hoping to meet their “prince charming”, the people like me and my friends who didn’t give a fuck. I looked over and saw a slender girl with dark brown, almost black hair make her way over to the couch.

“Oh god, this getting outta control.” She smiled as she sat down next to me. I could smell the alcohol on her breath.

“I was just thinking the same thing.” Knowing she detected the similar smell of alcohol.

“I haven’t to a party this crazy in months; you know I just saw a guy trying to make a snowman inside.” She chuckled. “He couldn’t grasp the fact that snow melts quicker in a warmer environment.” She laughed again.

“Oh god, I laughed at my own joke again.” She sighed.

“No, it was funny; I am just a tad drunk. My reaction to the things around me aren’t exactly perfect right now.” I said, she laughed again. Her laugh was cute.

“Well I can’t blame you. I’m Walker by the way.” The brown haired girl finally introduced herself. She was cute, no doubt about it. I couldn’t tell if it was because I was drunk, but I was attracted to her. Maybe it just felt weird, being interested in someone else other than Rachel.

“Frank, nice to meet you. So how’d you find out about this shindig?” Seriously Frank? Shindig. Pull it together.

“Ah you know. I just know Bob. Everyone knows Bob.” She said. She was right everyone did know Bob. “You?”

“Bob is actually one of my best friends. We bicker constantly though.” I explained as I took another sip of my beer.

“Awh, like an old married couple.” She joked, taking another sip her beer. I laughed back, and she smiled at me again.

It was quiet for a minute, as if we had just hit a speed bump in the conversation. I hated those, but I really wasn’t sure what to say.

“The music that’s been playing is really great. It’s very rare to go to a party this big and hear bands like the Misfits and The Smiths playing.” She broke the silence.

“Well the soundtrack was chosen by yours truly.” I was flattered, and I smiled and basked in my glory, and suddenly I had no desire to leave the couch.

Gerard’s POV:

It was almost midnight, almost the start of a whole new year. The whole group had scattered about the party just mingling with other people and making new friends. Usually I would be trying to find my next conquest. But I just stood in the corner and sipped on my beer. The only girl I wanted to be with didn’t want to be with me…again. I watched Rachel as she stumbled drunkenly throughout the party. She had worn a tight black dress that made her look even more beautiful. I couldn’t help but think about what a great relationship we had until I cheated on her. I looked at the time. It was five minutes til midnight exactly. I had a plan and I was going through it. I looked around at everyone swarming like a hive of bees to find their partners for the first kiss of the New Year. I moved to my hideout in the coat closet, and I kept the door cracked. There was no doubt that it was tight fit. It was backed with fur coats, leather jackets, and cleaning supplies. I felt like a freak just waiting in here. But it was the only to do what I wanted to at this moment. We were at the minute mark. This needed to be perfect. But finally we were at ten seconds and I saw Rachel walk by. I quickly opened the door wider, grabbed her by her wrist and pulled her in.

“What the fuck Ger--!” she exclaimed drunkenly.

“5, 4.” I counted out softly.

“What is goi—“

“3, 2.” I interrupted her again.

“I swear!” she said frustrated. But I quickly placed my finger on her lip silencing her.

“And 1.” I breathed out. I heard the roar of the party outside of everyone praising the New Year.

I put my hands around Rachel’s waist and pulled her into me. Without hesitation I pressed my lips on to hers. I had missed her, our lips seemed to fit perfectly together as they weaved with each other. Her lips were soft as I had remembered them. She tried to push me off of her, but I pushed her up against the wall, and placed both my hands on it. Rachel admitted defeat to her wants as he wrapped her arms around my neck and committed to the kiss. I pushed my tongue into her mouth and they danced with each other, as the slipped around. I bit Rachel’s lip slightly and she ran her hands through my hair, grasping it tightly. I never wanted it to end but finally our lips slowly parted. It was silent, except for the sound of the crowd outside the closet. I felt as if Rachel and I were in a different world, separate from all the commotion. It was silent as she stared at me, almost looking confused. She kept opening her mouth but no words were coming out. I felt her hand collide with my face suddenly. She had slapped me, I could feel my cheek stinging from where she had hit.

“Gerard, what the hell are you doing!?” she exclaimed.

“Happy New Year.” I couldn’t think of anything else to say, but I tried to play it off.

“No, what! You can’t ju—“ I grabbed her and kissed her again. It’s all I wanted to do for so long. Rachel quickly pushed me off.

“No, this isn’t cool! You can’t do this. We can’t do this!” she exclaimed, she wanted to pace, she did that when she was nervous. But there was nowhere to go so she just planted her face into one of the fur coats.

“Rachel, take your face out of the coat.” I sighed.

“No, you are ruining everything!” she yelled into the fur.

“I know you miss me.” I turned her towards me, and grinned at deviously, like I always used too. I knew it drove her crazy.

She stared at me again, and grinned slightly back before grabbing the belt loops on my jeans, pulling me into another kiss.

“We are gonna talk about this tomorrow.” She said sternly. As she opened the door of the closet.

“I’ll be wait baby.” I smirked and winked at her as she left. She just rolled her eyes and disappeared into the party. I knew this wasn’t the best thing for me to be doing right now.

I left the closet, and rejoined the party. Everyone was passed fucked up and going wild. I looked over and saw Frank talking to some brown haired girl I had never seen before. He looked interested in her. This made me feel hopeful. But I couldn’t shake the feeling of guilt. But I had no intention of keeping this from Frank. I would talk to him. I wasn’t gonna go through a fight with him again. But that was a problem for another night.
