Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto, its characters, or any of the songs I parody in this series. I make no money; it's just for fun, and they're not meant for children!

Theme: Naruto's favorite thing

Warnings for this Parody: um... none, really, I guess...

A/N: This one's a bit different. It has a drabbley bit of ficcage to it, and Naruto sings the parody! We'll see how this goes, ne... Oh, and the song probably isn't one that everyone knows, and reading the title now might throw you off from the 'story', so I'm not saying what it is yet... I'll tell you at the end, 'k? ^__^

Song Lyrics are in Italics

So Near, Yet So Far

Naruto sighed heavily, eyes looking forlornly around; searchingly. No one was nearby. He sighed again. Then, softly, he began to sing.

When the morning has come
Or the sun's high midday
Or the day turns to evening somehow...
I am thinking of you,
though you're so far away
And I'm wanting you close to me now...

His gaze shifted quickly around again, then his voice grew a tiny bit louder as his eyes looked up longingly.

Oh miso pork ramen,
so high on the shelf!
Sitting beside all those jars
I'm not tall enough
to reach you myself
So near, and yet, so very far

He was almost /positive/ that wasn't where the ramen was usually kept! Why the hell would lightweight, Styrofoam cups and small, square, plastic packages be on a high shelf beside pickle jars?! (And for that matter, why would heavy glass jars be on a top shelf at all??!!) Yet, every time he came into this store, the ramen seemed to magically disappear from its proper spot on the lower shelves with the other instant foods, only to be found on some high, random shelf where he couldn't reach it.

He knew what people thought of him; how they treated him; the lengths they went to, to make his life more difficult; but this was ridiculous... Who would bother going to the trouble of moving all the ramen that high, just so he couldn't buy it when he really wanted it?! His voice grew softer again as he continued to sing.

I can never forget you
You're all I adore
For many long moments I've tried
I call out your name,
but I'll have to do more
To bring you back here to my side

His voice grew stronger.

Oh miso pork ramen,
so high on the shelf!
Sitting beside all those jars
I'm not tall enough
To reach you myself
So near, and yet, so very far

Stronger and louder, still.

If I had three wishes, they'd all be for you!
If I had my way, you'd be mine!
Oh, to reach what mattered!
If I had a ladder
If I weren't so short, we'd be fine!

Then softer, quieter, as if speaking a promise into a lover's ear.

I believe we will be back together someday
I cannot be happy 'til then
I have loved you before
I could love you some more
And I want to be with you again

Turning to see out the windows that lined the top of the nearby wall, he could see that the sky had darkened considerably since he'd entered the store. His stomach growled. How long had he been standing here contemplating the ramen?

Now the sunlight has gone
Mt. Hokage is dark...

Then loudly and strongly, he sang out.

Oh miso pork ramen,
so high on the shelf!
Sitting beside all those jars
I'm not tall enough
to reach you myself
So near, and yet, so very far

And I wish I could be where yoooouuuu are...

As his voice quieted for his last verse and tapered off, he stared longingly up at the ramen that continued to elude his grasp.

"Dobe, why don't you just make a Kage Bunshin ladder and get the damn ramen already?"

He jumped at the deeper voice suddenly speaking from behind him, letting out quite the unmanly squeak in surprise, and turned to face his raven haired team mate's smirk.

"Teme!" he cried, shaking a fist. "How long have you been there?!"

Sasuke's smirk twitched at the corner, eyes lighting in amusement.

"Long enough. You sure do have a high singing voice, usuratonkachi. For a minute there I thought you were a girl."

"Why you-" Naruto started growling, but Sasuke ignored him.

Casually, he reached over Naruto's head, grabbing several packages of the boy's desired food. He dumped them into Naruto's grocery basket, stuffed his hands in his pockets, and began to walk away. Before he turned the corner for the next aisle, Naruto heard Sasuke remark, "You do know, of course, the fact that that's all you ever eat is the /reason/ you can't reach it on the top shelf, ne dobe?"

Naruto's eyes widened, then narrowed into a glare as his face grew red in anger, cheeks puffing out and hands clenching into fists. "Teme!!!" he cried, running after him, but the boy was already gone.

Naruto sighed to himself, heading to the checkout counter to pay. Then he made his way home, anticipating making and eating some of his newly-acquired ramen as soon as he got there.

A/N2: Heh, so this song may be kind of obscure... unless you have young kids or babysit for/hang around young kids, you probably don't know this song. Even then you may still not know, lol!

Well, the song Naruto parodied in here is called "Faraway Cookies" and it's one of my favorite songs from the "Philadelphia Chickens" album by Sandra Boynton. (Actually... I love almost all the songs on that album lol -_-;; I'm such a kid. Or mom... whichever... Actually, I'd still like it even if I didn't have a kid... I'm just a dork. XD)

It's a really good album, and it's actually the reason I started on this series already yesterday. I was trying to work on the next chapter for "Sweetest Blood" and chibi-chan wanted to listen to the CD... inevitably I found myself singing along without even realizing and couldn't concentrate on writing SB. XD If you have kids or know someone who does, I suggest giving it a try. It's different and may take some getting used to, but it's a hell of a lot better than the usual kids' songs.

Anyway, now that that mini-plug is done, I thought I'd show you the original lyrics, in case you were wondering. I really didn't change too much, actually... Oh, and if you want to hear what it sounds like, here's a link to a site that lets you listen to the whole song for a limited number of plays (I believe it's on track 9):

Lyrics for "Faraway Cookies":

And the sunlight has gone
and the green hills turn gray
and the day turns to evening somehow
And I'm thinking of you,
though you're so far away
And I'm wanting you close to me now

Oh chocolate chip cookies,
so high on the shelf!
Hiding inside of the jar
I'm not tall enough
to reach you myself
So near, and yet, so very far

I can never forget you
You're all I adore
For many long moments I've tried
I call out your name,
but I'll have to do more
To bring you back here to my side

Oh chocolate chip cookies,
so high on the shelf!
Hiding inside of the jar
I'm not tall enough
To reach you myself
So near and yet so very far

If I had three wishes, they'd all be for you!
If I had my way, you'd be mine!
Oh, to reach what mattered!
If I had a ladder
If I weren't so short, we'd be fine!

I believe we will be back together someday
I cannot be happy til then
I have loved you before
I could love you some more
And I want to be with you again

And the sunlight has gone
And the green hills turn gray...

Oh chocolate chip cookies, so high on the shelf!
Hiding inside of the jar
I'm not tall enough
to reach you myself
So near, and yet, so very far

And I wish I could be where you are...

Y'know, after reading through the lyrics so many times, I see I could actually do a more Shounen-ai/Angsty-ish version of this... hmm... scratches chin
