Chelsea yawned awake and turned off her alarm. She reached over to her nightstand to grab her water and take her morning pills. It was still difficult to swallow pills, even though she did it several times a day for most of her life. As she did so, her mom walked in.

“Good morning, sweetie,” Eleanor said, heading for Chelsea’s dresser. “What would you like to wear today?”

“The pink shirt,” Chelsea replied, “with the flowers on it.”

Eleanor set the clothes on Chelsea’s bed and helped her daughter into the bathtub. After bathing and changing clothes, it was time for breakfast. Parley just finished making food when the two ladies arrived.

“How’s school going?” Parley asked, placing food on plates. Eleanor wheeled Chelsea to her spot at the table.

“Great!” Chelsea said. “I’ve already made friends!”

“Other than Jacob?” Eleanor asked.

“Yes, Mom, other than Jacob,” Chelsea said with a roll of her eyes.

They shared a pleasant conversation throughout breakfast, and then it was time for Chelsea to go to school. Eleanor ensured Chelsea had everything she needed, much to Chelsea’s chagrin. Chelsea was always on top of packing her bag.

Eleanor dropped Chelsea off at school, where Jacob waited for her. The two shared classes so he could take care of her. Chelsea hoped that would change next semester. She didn’t need her hand held all the time.

The only class they didn’t share was P.E. Eleanor pulled Chelsea out of school to take her to physical therapy instead. It was her first time ever trying to stand in three years. Well, other than when she first woke up with ghost powers. The effort took a lot out of her, but she could stand for a few seconds. Everyone applauded her attempt, and the physical therapist worked her legs for almost an hour.

Afterward, Chelsea returned to school thoroughly exhausted. She almost fell asleep during English class, even though it was her favorite subject. Worried, Jacob wrote her a note.

“What’s up with you?” the note read.

Chelsea wrote back, “Physical therapy.”

Jacob made a small o with his mouth when he read it and nodded to her.

Luckily, English was the last class, so Chelsea could go home after that. While waiting for their parents outside, Danny, Sam, and Tucker walked up to them.

Chelsea waved. “Hey, guys! Want to come over to my house to do homework?”

The trio looked at each other and shrugged.

“Sure, why not?” Danny said for the group.

“Anything to get away from my parents,” Sam added with a smirk.

“What’s wrong with your parents?” Jacob asked.

“Jacob!” Chelsea scolded.

“It’s okay,” Sam said. “We just don’t see eye to eye, my parents and me.”

“Ohh,” Jacob said, nodding his head. “Gotcha.”

Chelsea wasn’t sure she understood but didn’t want to pry. It was Sam’s business.

They all made their way to Chelsea’s house, where they sat at the kitchen table and pulled out their homework. They tried staying on task, but they kept getting sidetracked and having a good time overall. Eleanor made snacks, but Sam didn’t partake because of her vegan diet. Eleanor promised to have vegan snacks next time.

After a couple of hours, Chelsea needed to take a nap. She wasn’t done with her homework, but she just couldn’t keep her eyes open anymore. She apologized to everyone, and they said it was okay, of course. Eleanor drove them all home.

Chelsea’s nap wasn’t very long because it was already dinner time. After dinner, Chelsea finished up her homework with her dad’s help. It went a lot quicker without her friends to distract her. She went right to bed after that but set her alarm to meet up with Danny later in the night. He promised to teach her about being a ghost!
