We walked back still talking about ourselves and our lives. When we got there Andy, Joe, Patrick and a new guy were waiting outside for us. I started to say goodbye but was stopped by Pete. “Hey, I forgot to ask you, would you like to come to our show tonight? We’re playing here again. You can bring someone if you want. I’d like it if you came, kind of as a thank you.”
“Sure, I’d love to. I’ll bring my roommate. She actually knows who you guys are. What time?” I could feel the grin on my face. Ash was going to be so surprised when I told her.
“The show starts at 9:30, but you can come by the bus anytime.”
“Ok. So, I’ll see ya later.”
“Wait, do you know of any Vegan restaurants around here?” Andy asked me. “I’m sorry, but I’m hungry and we’ve been waiting for Pete to get back.”
“I know the best one in town. My roommate is the manager. She’s getting off soon and is bringing home lunch for the house. Why don’t you guys come over to my place and I’ll have her bring home more food?” I waited for an answer. They all seemed a little surprised but decided free food was all good.
“Ok…Um…So, where do you live?” The new guy asked. “Oh, by the way, I’m Dirty.” He held out his hand to me. I smiled and shook his hand.
“Nice to meet you Dirty. I’m Sky.”
“Is that really your name?” Dirty asked.
I laughed; I was used to this question. “Yes. Mom and Dad liked unusual names. My brother’s name is really Cloud. Let me call Ash. What do you guys want to eat?”
They told me what they liked and I called my friend.
“Ash! I need you to bring home some more food. We have guests.”
“Ok, what do I need to bring?” She asked. I gave her the order.
I was about to hang up when Ash asked me who our guests were. “You’ll see when you get home. Believe me, you’ll be very happy to see them.” She was going to love me. I was bringing her favorite band to our house.
“Um, Sky? Can I bring Hemmy with us?” Pete asked me.
“Of course you can bring him.”
I had the guys follow me back to my place. Talking to all of them was as easy as talking to Pete. I don’t really know why but I liked these guys and I hoped they liked me. Something about them made me want to be friends with them. That’s something that hasn’t happened in a long time. When we got to the house I yelled for Cloud.
“Brother, come down, we have company!” I was kind of glad he was there. I was starting to feel a little outnumbered.
“Hi, guys! What brings you here?” Cloud asked as he came down the stairs and saw Pete and the others.
“Ash is bringing home food and I invited everyone over for lunch. Oh, by the way, Cloud this is Dirty, Dirty this is my brother Cloud.” I introduced my brother to our newest friend. “And you remember everyone else from last night.”
“Nice to meet you.” Cloud said as he shook Dirty’s hand and then everyone else’s. “It’s nice to see you guys again. You’re looking better today Pete.” My brother seems to put everyone at ease. I wish I could be as cool as he was.
“Come on in, and sit down. Can I get anyone something to drink?” I asked around.
“I’ll help you.” Pete offered.
“Thanks.” I replied with a smile. I took him back to the kitchen and started to pull out glasses from the cupboard. “Would it be ok if I gave Hemmy some water and a treat? Roy always gets one when we get back from a walk.” I asked Pete.
“Sure. That would be really nice. Hemmy, come here.”
Both dogs came into the kitchen and I put down two bowls of water and pulled out a couple of my homemade dog treats for them. Yes, I’m that concerned about what my dog eats that I make the dog treats.
We got the drinks and went back into the living room. A couple of minutes later my phone rang. I looked at the caller ID, it was Ash.
“Hey.”
“Hey, I need some help with all this food! Please!”
“Be right out.” I told her. “Ash needs help with the food. I’ll be right back. Brother, could you please set the table?” I asked Cloud using my nickname for him.
“I’ll help you, if you want?” Andy volunteered.
“That would be great. Thanks!”
Andy and I went out the back door to the alley behind my house to the garage. Ash was just pulling in. She looked up and saw us, her mouth dropped. I couldn’t help but laugh at her. I stood by her window until she rolled it down and looked at me. “Hey, Ash, you want to meet my new friends?” She didn’t say anything, but nodded her head. I opened the door for her and she got out.
“Andy this is my housemate Ashley, Ash this is Andy.” I introduced them to each other.
“Hi! Nice to meet you Ashley.” Andy said, reaching out to shake her hand.
“Hi. Ash, everyone calls me Ash. And I know who you are. I love your band!” she took his hand to shake, but never let go. She flashed her pretty smile at him.
“Thanks! So, can we help you with the food?” He asked her. His smile back at her was very sweet and gentle. I’m pretty sure that was the moment they fell for each other.
“Oh, yeah, it’s in the backseat.” She said never taking her eyes off of him. By this time I had already started to get the bags from the car and handed them to Ash and Andy. They seemed to be caught up in each other's eyes, smiling like fools. Ash is a beautiful girl. I’ve always thought she looks like a pixie. She’s about 5’3”, has black hair, cut in a chin length bob. The prettiest blue eyes I’ve ever seen, and the prettiest smile.
“Come on, let’s get this inside and eat.” I said to the two of them.
We got the food inside and I made the introductions all around. The eight of us sat down at the dining room table and had a great meal. We laughed and talked and just enjoyed each other's company for about an hour and a half. Andy and Ash were flirting the whole time.
“So, Cloud, Ash, are you guys coming to the show tonight too?” Patrick asked.
“Sorry, I’d love to, but I have to work tonight.” Cloud answered.
“I wouldn’t miss it!” Ash said. Then she looked at me and mouthed what show?
I got up and started clearing the table, Patrick and Pete got up and helped me. I got the dishwasher loaded up and started it. After we finished that we headed back to the living room.
“Well, guys, I have to leave for work. It’s been fun. Have a good time tonight. Hope I see ya again. Bye.” Cloud said as he left.
“Sky, I would love to see some of your work. Do you have anything you can show me?” Pete asked me.
“Yeah, me too.” Patrick said.
“Ok. Come on up to my room.” I took everyone up to my third story attic room, half of it was my studio and the other half was my bedroom. I had the whole floor to myself because it was one big room. I have bookshelves dividing the studio from the bed area. I pulled out my portfolio and put it down on a table I have next to my easel. “This is all stuff I have sold or did on a contract.” I told them as I started to flip the pages.
“Man, Sky, these are great!” Joe said. “What about the ones you have up here? Are they for a contract?” He was going through some of the work I had around my studio. “I really like this one.” He said as he pulled out one.
“Some of them are, But most are just ones I’ve painted for myself. I’ll probably put them in my next gallery show. If I can sell them that way it'll be all good.”
“I hate to break this up, but you guys have a sound check in like 20 minutes. And then you have to get ready for the show.” Dirty said after a few minutes.
“Oh, ok. Well, I guess we should go.” Andy said, looking at Ash. “But we’ll see you in a couple of hours, right?”
“You bet. We’ll be there as soon as we can.” Ash replied with a big grin on her face. She was falling for this guy and he was leaving tonight.
“Come on, we’ll walk you out. Can you find your way back to the club?” I asked.
“Um, I think so.” Patrick said with a doubtful look on his face.
We got to the front door and Pete got Hemmy. We walked them out to the sidewalk and I gave them directions. “Ok, go down this way two blocks. Then turn right on V street. Then go three more blocks and the club will be right in front of you.”
“Thanks. Give me a call when you two are almost there. Dirty will meet you out front and bring you back to where we are.” Pete told me.
“Ok.”
“Bye.” Ash and I said together.
