We watched the guys walk down the street until they crossed the next street and then Ash turned to me and said, “Now, tell me everything!”
“Ok, but let’s go inside. It's cold out here and then I’ll tell you everything.” We went in and she dragged me up to her room. I sat on her bed and told her about last night and finding Pete on the front steps, taking him back to the bus. I told her about this morning and inviting them to lunch. “So, what do ya think?”
“That you are one lucky bitch.” Ash said with a grin. “Now what are we going to wear?”
I shrugged and said “I’m wearing what I have on.”
“What?!? No! You can’t wear that!” She said with a look of disgust on her face.
“Why not? There’s nothing wrong with what I have on.” I looked down at myself, I had on jeans, black Converse high tops, and a plain red tee shirt. My hair was pulled back in one long thick braid, and my face was bare of makeup. I didn’t have any paint on me so I didn’t see what the big deal was. I go to the 9:30 Club to see bands I like all the time and this is the kind of thing I always wear.
“We’re seeing Fall Out Boy!” She said, like that should be a good enough reason.
“And?” I asked
“And, I’m going with you so you have to look good. Besides, don’t you want to make an impression on Pete?” Ash asked me with a sly smile on her face.
“Um, yeah. He’s already seen me like this. And I don’t care if I make an impression on him or not.”
“How could you not care?!?! I mean he’s Pete Wentz!” She practically yelled at me. This only made me laugh.
“Ok, ok. What do you think I should wear?”
“I don’t know. We’ll have to look through your closet.” She grabbed my hand and started to pull me out of her room and upstairs to mine. “You’ll have to wear some makeup too.”
“I don’t wear makeup, you know that.” I protested.
“You do sometimes. And you need to let your hair down. Don’t keep it tied up. I can do your hair and makeup for you if you want”
“No thank you. I’ll do it myself.” I don’t like to wear a lot of makeup and when I do wear it I only put a little bit on. Ash is one of those girls that always has on makeup and most of the time she has on too much for my taste.
Ash went through my closet and we finally settled on a pair of low rise skinny jeans and a tight fitting long sleeve v-neck green sweater. She said it showed off my small waist and my cleavage. I also put one of my dancing scarves around my hips. It was a dark pumpkin orange and had metal coins sewn on it. They tinkled when you moved. I also wrapped a long black silk scarf around my neck. Then I went to the bathroom and put on a little bit of eye makeup and lip-gloss. I took the braid out and ran a brush through my hair. I was ready to go in like twenty minutes. Ash took a lot longer. We were finally ready to go about two hours after the guys left.
We called when we were almost there, and Dirty met us out front. The guys were backstage waiting for the show to start.
“Wow, you both look great!” Andy said when he saw Ash.
I know the complement was meant for her, but it was nice of him to include me. We hung out until it was time for the boys to go on stage. As soon as they stepped out there the crowd erupted. They were good, I mean really good! Live music is always fun to watch, and these guys put on a show. Ash and I had managed to make our way out to the floor. Then pushed our way to the front and danced around just like all the kids. I started doing some belly dancing moves, kind of a Shakira dance, and Ash joined me. I looked up at the stage and found Pete watching me. I smiled big and winked at him. He just grinned back.
Dirty found me at the bar about 45 minutes later and told me it was almost over. I waved over Ash and we went back to watch the rest of the set in the wings of the stage.
“What did you think?” Pete asked me when he stepped off the stage.
“Don’t ask me if you don’t want to hear the truth.” I said with a straight face.
“Okay, is that good or bad?” He asked me slightly taken aback.
I had to smile at the face he was making. “You guys were fantastic! I think you put on a hell of a show. And, I have to admit, I’ll be borrowing Ashes’ CD’s. You've made a fan out of me.”
He grinned at me and laughed. “Don’t worry about borrowing hers. I’ll give you a copy of them.”
Then he draped his arm over my shoulder and started walking us out to the bus. “By the way, where did you learn how to dance like that? That was really something.” He had a gleam in his eye when he asked me that.
“Ten years of belly dancing. So, you liked that did you?”
“Yes, I must say I did.”
We got to the bus and the boys went to clean up a bit. When Andy came back he sat down and pulled Ash onto his lap, he put his hand to her face and pulled her in for a kiss. It was really very sweet. Then he whispered something in her ear that made her smile and turn to kiss him again. Pete came out from the bunk area and handed me a couple of CD’s.
“Here, now you have your own copies.”
“Thanks.” I reached up with my left hand to take them from him, but he took hold of my wrist. He was very gentle. He turned my hand so it was palm up, gently pushed my sleeve up and looked at my tattoo. He looked down at my other wrist and held out his other hand asking to see that one too. I put my right hand in his open one to let him see it. I have ‘Don’t Panic!’ on the inside of my right wrist and ‘42’ on the inside of my left wrist. They’re from my favorite book, not many people get them. I got them because I love the book, I don’t care if anyone else understands. He looked at them for a minute and then smiled.
“You must be a fan of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.” It was more of a statement than a question.
“It’s my favorite book. I can’t believe you know it!” I was shocked that he knew the book. I hadn’t met anyone in a long time that got my tattoos.
“Just because I play in a band doesn’t mean I don’t read. I’m a bit obsessed with words. I’ll read anything I can get my hands on. I did name my dog Hemingway after all.” He finally let go of my hands and sat down next to me. “Are those your only tattoos?”
“No, I have five more. I have one on each shoulder, one on my right foot, one on the inside of my left thigh, and one on my left side.” My sweater had pulled up a bit showing some of the one on my side. I leaned over a little and pulled the hem up so he could see. “It runs from my underarm to my hip.” I told him.
“That is the sexiest tattoo I’ve ever seen.” He said as he reached out to touch it. His fingers traced the design, making me shiver. His touch was like electricity running over my skin. He must have felt me shake because he pulled his hand away and apologized. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean anything.”
“Don’t be.” I interrupted him. “I’m just a little ticklish.”
Dirty and the bus driver came in and told us they had to be getting on the road. Everyone seemed a bit disappointed. We gathered up our coats and bags and got off the bus. “Well guys, it’s been a lot of fun.” I said.
“Yeah it has. Thank you all so much for inviting us tonight.” Ash said.
Andy stepped forward and wrapped his arms around her. “We had fun too. And thank you for lunch.”
Joe jumped on me and picked me up in a big hug then he planted a big wet kiss on my check. “We definitely have to do this again sometime.” Then he did the same to Ash.
Then Patrick came over for his good-bye hug. “Thank you for bringing Pete back to us, and for today.”
“Not a problem.” I said as I hugged him back. “You really have an amazing voice. I can’t believe I haven’t listened to you before now. Keep in touch, ok?”
“Promise.” Patrick gave me a sweet smile and a quick kiss on the check. Then he stepped aside to let Dirty say his goodbyes. Then Andy came over and gave me a hug and a kiss on the cheek. Then he made me promise to look after Ash for him.
Pete was last to say goodbye. He didn’t say anything at first, he just wrapped his arms around my waist and buried his head in my shoulder. I hugged him back and waited for him to say something. “Thank you so much for everything. You can’t know how much you helped me. I don’t think I would have made it back to the bus if you hadn’t found me last night. And thank you for today.” He lifted his head and looked at me. “Can I still call you anytime?” He had such a serious look in his eye. Almost like he was afraid I would say no.
“Please do. I want to keep in touch. And don’t worry about what time it is either. I don’t sleep very well and most nights I’m up late.” I smiled at him and then without thinking I leaned in and kissed him. Not a passionate kiss but a sweet kiss. When I pulled away he flashed me that smile, the one I was falling for. Then he kissed me again, it was sweet and tender.
“Ok, I’ll call you soon. Bye.” Then he stepped over to Ash to say goodbye to her. Then they got back on the bus with us waving to them. Ash and I headed home.
“You really like Andy don’t you?” I asked her.
“Yes, I really do.” She replied with a sigh.
When we got home we said our goodnights and made our way to our rooms. I changed into a pair of pajama bottoms and a tank top. Then I burned the CD’s Pete had given me into my Itunes, and then downloaded them into my Ipod. I pulled out a canvas and my paints and put in my ear buds. The last 24 hours had inspired me. I felt the need to paint. I was interrupted sometime later by my phone, it was Pete.
“Ok, but let’s go inside. It's cold out here and then I’ll tell you everything.” We went in and she dragged me up to her room.
