Useless.
That's what they called her.
Her efforts were cast aside by her parents, not sparing a second glance. The things she accomplished at the academy were scorned, anyone should be able to do that. In their eyes, she was less than average, only capable of doing basic jutsus. They tried to teach her extra techniques, only for her to fail.
"WHY CAN'T YOU LEARN THIS SIMPLE JUTSU??!!"
Sakura rubbed her stinging cheek, tears forming. "I'm sorry Daddy, I don't know."
"DON'T TALK BACK TO ME YOU USELESS BRAT!!!"
The next day, Sakura came to school with a bruise on her collarbone, saying she fell down some stairs. Every week, she came back, a new injury in new places, with a smile on her face, insisting she was just clumsy.
Her friends pretended to like her, only for them to talk behind her back.
"Did you hear? Sakura fell again."
"Really? She's such a brat. She's only doing it for attention."
They laughed, piercing Sakura's heart. She ran home, to be met with the disappointment of her parents, because she was late. That night, she fell asleep, tears staining her cheeks.

"Sasuke-kun!"
Sakura ran up to the black-haired boy, hoping to talk to him, only to be pushed by Ino, who stuck out her tongue before latching onto Sasuke. Sakura started down at the dirt, lip trembling. She couldn't even have a crush without someone stomping on her dream. She walked dejectedly into the classroom, plopping down at her seat, waiting for class to start.
"Today, we will be learning the transformation jutsu."
Iruka-sensei stood in front of the class, smiling brightly. He started to explain the basics, before demonstrating it, turning into a perfect replica of the Third Hokage. Turning back to normal, he put his hands on his hips.
"We're going to go around the room, and try to turn into me. It's okay if you can't. Kiba, let's start with you."
He pointed at the boy from the Inuzuka clan, who stood up and did the hand signs.
Rat, Ox, Rabbit, Monkey.
A small poof of smoke appeared, revealing a perfectly normal Kiba. He sat down gloomily, head down. "It's fine Kiba, not everyone gets it. Next!"
They went around the room, everyone mostly failing. The only people who got it were Shikamaru from the Nara clan, and Shino from the Aburame Clan. When it was Sakura's turn, she stood up, and did the hand signs. A small cloud of smoke appeared, and Sakura squinted her eyes open, and looked down to see her body. She had failed.
Sitting down, she watched Sasuke do it perfectly, and clapped softly for him. Ino went next, also doing perfectly. She sent a smug look towards Sakura before sitting back down. Sakura set her head down on her desk, refusing to acknowledge her rival.

"Mom! Dad! I'm home!"
The 8 year old girl walked into her house, taking off her shoes. Sakura entered the kitchen, smiling at her mother. The said woman glanced at her, before going back to cutting up peppers.
Sakura kept smiling, and greeted her father in the next room. He looked up, than looked back to his book.
"How was school?"
Sakura swallowed, thinking of what to say. "We learned a new jutsu today." That piqued his interest.
"Really? Which one?"
"Um, the transformation jutsu."
Her dad nodded. "That's an important one. Can you do it?"
"Yes." Sakura lied. She would perfect it, then show him.
"Then show me."
She froze, not sure what to say. "Well, I'm tired, so I should go to-"
"Show. Me."
Sakura nodded slowly, nervously bringing her hands to the starting sign.
Rat, Ox, Rabbit, Monkey.
A puff of smoke appeared, and Sakura looked down t see that nothing had changed. Again. She trembled and slowly lifted her eyes to meet her father's furious ones.
"You lied to me."
"N-no, I could do it before, I'm just tired! I'll sh-show you tomorrow!" Sakura desperately tried to explain, but it was too late.
"YOU CAN'T DO A SIMPLE JUTSU, AND YOU LIE TO ME?! YOU'RE A WASTE OF OUR MONEY, AND OUR EFFORTS! YOU USELESS, STUPID BRAT!!"
He slammed his book down, and grabbed Sakura's hair, yanking her upward. She whimpered, and held her dad's arm. "Dad, please stop, it hurts!" He shook her some more, and smacked her face. "Stop complaining. This is what you deserve." He dragged her to the kitchen, and was handed a knife from Sakura's mother.
A searing pain was felt in her left cheek, and warm blood dripped down her face. Her hair was let go, and Sakura collapsed on the floor, holding her face. Her sight went blurry from the tears, and crawled to her room.
Ripping an old shirt, Sakura wrapped her new wound, and fell asleep.
