Sonia and Mindy left their grief support group and walked down the street to the gelato shop.

“Does it ever get easier?” Sonia asked.

“It gets where it doesn’t hurt as bad, but it doesn’t seem to get easier.” Mindy replied. “You think about the stuff your mom will miss. Your graduations, your wedding, your-”

“I get it.” Sonia replied. She glanced at the tv playing in the nail salon they were passing and shook her head. “Eggman has really been bringing his A-game lately. I wish Sonic would finally get him arrested.”

“Sometimes I swear your brother goes easy on him, because he’d be bored without a battle to fight.” Mindy said.

“I hate to say it, but I think you’re right.” Sonia replied.

Sonia and Mindy walked into the gelato shop.

The customers were gathered by the tv.

“What is going on?” Sonia asked.

Mindy’s eyes widened. “Girl, we better go.” She said, shoving Sonia back out the door.

Sonia followed along, too stunned to say or do anything for a few minutes.

Finally, she stopped and pulled away from Mindy.

“What is going on?” Sonia asked.

Shadow skated over. “Sonia.”

“Shadow?” Sonia asked.

“Eggman has taken over.” Shadow replied. “He’s improved Metal Sonic. It dragged Sonic and Manic into this airship and we couldn't get to it or find them.”

Sonia screamed.

Shadow smacked his hand over her mouth. “Shut up, they’ll find us.”

“Too late.” Mindy said, pointing at some drones.

Shadow fought them, then took Mindy and Sonia to Tails’ workshop, where he and Sticks had built a storm/fallout shelter.
