Shadow brought Manic home from the prison, taking him to Tails’ workshop.
Sonia, Uncle Chuck, and Aleena hugged Manic.
“I missed you all too.” Manic said. “Uh… Tails? Can you make me some coffee before I explain any of this to you all?”
Tails handed Manic a cup of coffee. “Way ahead of you.”
Everyone sat down at the table.
“Okay, so Surge and I worked for this ex GUN scientist.” Manic said. “His name is Dr. Starline. He gave us cyborganics after a botched job for the Guild and we were indebted to him. The Guild had a leadership change and they were done with us since Farrell, the old leader, retired. So we were stuck there.”
“I know of Starline, but hadn’t met him.” Shadow replied. “He was fired for unethical experiments. He made these hypnotic drugs and psyops stuff.”
“That explains Surge’s methods.” Mindy said. “But why haven’t we heard of him before?”
“Because he was letting Surge appear to be acting on her own.” Manic replied. “Once we got everything under control, we were to hand it over to him. The only thing we would’ve controlled was gonna be wherever we chose to live afterward. If we tried to double cross him, he said he’d shut off the cyborganics.”
“Is he still after you, Manic?” Sonia asked.
Manic shrugged. “He didn’t have me killed and I kept my mouth shut, so no.” He replied. “As long as I stay out of his way, that is. I agreed to testify against the Guild, no one else has connected Starline to that junk.”
“We can handle it.” Shadow said. “Thanks, Manic.”
“You won’t kill her, right?” Manic asked.
“She tried to kill us.” Sonia snapped.
“Under Starline’s orders.” Manic protested. “She had a rough life growing up, so yeah, she went mad with power since she never had it before. But he’s a psycho. Like he’s worse than Eggman, sis.”
Shadow nodded. “Eggman was full of himself and made foolish mistakes because of it.” He said. “Starline doesn’t behave that way.”
“If we get her away from him, get her help, will she be fine?” Sonia asked.
“I think so.” Manic replied.
“Manic, I don’t think that’s a good idea.” Aleena said, shaking her head.
Manic sighed. “Would you have liked her if she hadn’t done this?”
“I don’t know, I hadn’t met her.” Aleena said.
“You all handle this.” Uncle Chuck said, getting up to get another cup of coffee. “I’ll talk to him.”
Everyone except, Manic and Uncle Chuck got up and left.

Surge woke up, slowly sitting up. She wiped the drool off her face and looked at the tubes.
The babies were wiggling around as much as they could in the tubes.
Surge placed her hands on each of the tubes. “It’s okay, we’re getting out of here and I’m gonna avenge your dad.” She said softly. “I promise. I’m sorry you have to be in this mess.”
Kit walked in and stood beside her. “They’re adorable, Ma’am.”
Surge groaned. “Stop calling me that.”
Kit flattened up his ears against his head. “Sorry, Surge.”
“Where’s Starline?” Surge asked.
“Sending out bots.” Kit replied. “He won’t let me watch tv or look online to see the robot battle. You’re not allowed either.”
“What’s he keeping from us?” Surge asked.
Kit shrugged. He looked at the babies. “Uhm… are you sure they’re yours and Manic’s?”
“I thought about that, but they look like us, mostly Manic.” Surge replied. “Doesn’t matter if Starline made them in the lab with our DNA or not, they’re Manic’s kids. I can’t send them away.”
“You really love him, huh?” Kit asked.
Surge nodded. “He was the only one that actually cared about me.” She replied. She hung her head. “I’d give anything to snuggle against him and listen to him sing again.”
Kit hugged Surge. “I’m sorry, big sis.”
“Uh… thanks.” Surge said. “Level jumping on our… whatever this is, aren’t you?”
Kit sat down beside her. “Sorry, I just… I didn’t have a family either.” He replied. “I was an orphan. I thought we could be a family, like brother and sister.”
“Guess us orphans should look out for each other.” Surge said. “Alright, once we’re done, we’re gonna take the kids and head for Mobodoon. Manic loved it there. You can help me with the babies since I don’t know what to do. You look like you’d be great with kids.”
Kit smiled. “I like that.”
Surge ruffled Kit’s bangs. “Great.”
Dr. Starline stepped into the room. “You two, we’re about to have company.” He said. “Surge, you go to area 2. Kit, you stay here.”
Surge shook her head. “No. I’ll stay with the kids.”
Dr. Starline pressed a button on his gauntlet.
Surge screamed as a jolt of electricity shocked her hands and arms.
“You will do what I say.” Dr. Starline said. “Next time, it won’t be a shock. Those brats’ life support will be shut off.”
“Don’t worry, ma’am.” Kit said, tugging on Surge’s sleeve.
Surge glared at Kit.
“I mean Surge.” Kit said, pinning his ears back. He slid his hydropack on his shoulders. “Anyway, I’ll guard the babies with my life. I won’t let anyone hurt them.”
“A’ight, I’ll handle this as quickly as possible.” Surge said, cracking her knuckles. “If anyone hurts those babies, you’re dead, Drippy.”
“Yes, ma- I mean Surge.” Kit replied.
Surge followed Dr. Starline out of the lab.
