Shadow led the team to Starline’s lab.
The doors opened as soon as the team reached Eggman’s old fortress.
“It’s a trap.” Tails and Shadow said.
“So how would Sonic handle this?” Sonia asked.
“Barge right in like he owned the place.” Shadow replied.
Tails looked down at his feet. “I used to be afraid that would get him killed.”
Aleena hugged Tails.
“We have super powers.” Knuckles said, shrugging. “You showed me a picture of that guy. Cream could take him in a fight.”
A drone swooped out and hit Knuckles in the head.
Knuckles punched the drone, shattering it into pieces.
“You should’ve kept your mouth shut.” Shadow said, marching into the lab.
The others followed Shadow into the lab and saw a few hallways.
“I’ll take this hall.” Shadow said, motioning to the left corridor.
“I’ll take the middle one.” Sonia said.
Tails motioned to the right corridor. “I’ll take that one.”
“Okay, Rouge and Aleena, go with Tails.” Shadow said. “Knux, you go with Sonia and Mindy.”
“You’re going alone?” Sonia asked.
“I’ll be fine.” Shadow replied. He hugged Sonia. “I promise.”
They all split up and headed down the corridors.

Tails, Aleena, and Rouge made it into what appeared to be a living/dining room.
Dr. Starline (wearing a maroon flight suit) stood in the center of the room behind a force field. “I can’t believe my good luck today.” He said. “I figured Shadow or Knuckles would be the ones to pick this corridor, but it’s you three. The weak little fox, the powerless bat, and the old lady hedgehog.”
Aleena narrowed her eyes. “Says the coward behind a fancy wall.”
Aleena and Tails activated their medallions.
Dr. Starline blinked in surprise. “Ah, I should’ve known.” He said. He pressed a button on his glove.
The force field shut off as Dr. Starline’s suit lit up a bright crimson.
“You’re not the only one with Chaos energy powered objects.” Dr. Starline said. He fired an energy blast at Rouge with his suit’s glove.
Rouge narrowly dodged the shot.
Aleena fired a blast at Starline that bounced off the wall.
Tails fired a blast at Starline’s head.
Dr. Starline dodged the shot. He fired at Tails’ medallion, shattering it.
Tails groaned. “Guess I’m going back to tech.” He muttered as he pulled out the laser blaster he had made. He fired a few shots at Dr. Starline, which bounced off his suit.
Dr. Starline stunned Aleena for a minute with an energy blast, the shot bouncing off Aleena and grazing Rouge.
Rouge moaned as the blast burned the top of her wing.
“Tails, cover me.” Aleena said as she flew over to check on Rouge.
Tails’ laser gun stopped firing.
Tails groaned as he tried to reset his gun. “C’mon, c’mon!”
Dr. Starline held his hand up to fire another shot at Tails’ head. “For a genius, you sure don’t think ahead to keep your equipment charged.”
Tails flew over Dr. Starline. He desperately flew around, hoping it would be harder to hit a moving target as he searched his backpack. “I’m sure I packed another laser gun.”
Aleena fired another energy blast at Starline, damaging the left boot part of his suit.
Dr. Starline seethed. He fired energy blasts from both of his gloves.
The blasts destroyed Aleena’s medallion, immediately de-powering her.
Dr. Starline immediately fired another blast at Aleena, hitting her in the chest.
Aleena collapsed.
“Mom!” Tails yelled.
Rouge fired her gun at Dr. Starline as his suit started to lose power, hitting him in the back of his head.
Tails flew over to Aleena, then knelt down beside her. “Mom?”
“I’ll check on her, get Shadow.” Rouge said.
Tails got up and ran to get Shadow.
He made it down the corridor as Shadow came out of the other corridor.
“Just robots, a couple of baby hedgehog hybrids, and the fennec in there.” Shadow said. “Wait, what’s wrong?”
Tails exhaled loudly. “Mom’s hurt; Starline’s defeated.”
Shadow followed Tails back down the corridor the latter had come from.
Rouge wept over Aleena. She looked up at Tails. “I’m… I’m sorry, kid, she’s gone.”
Tails collapsed in tears.
Rouge flew over to Tails and hugged him. “I’m sorry, kiddo.” She said softly. “I’m sorry.”
“I’ll find Sonia.” Shadow said. “Call GUN.”
Rouge pulled her phone out of her pocket as she consoled Tails.

~meanwhile~
Sonia, in her super form, continued down the hallway alone as Mindy and Knuckles fought some drones.
Something punched Sonia as soon as she entered an empty room.
Sonia skidded into the wall. She got up and spun around as someone approached her, knocking whoever it was into the wall hard enough to shake the building.
Sonia stopped spinning.
Surge got up and marched over to Sonia.
“Surge?” Sonia asked. “Listen, I don’t want to hurt you.”
Surge took a swing at Sonia.
Sonia caught her wrist and flipped Surge over her shoulder. “Okay.” She said, turning to face Surge. “Will you listen-”
Surge swept her leg into Sonia’s leg, making her fall. She quickly crawled over to Sonia.
Sonia got up and caught Surge’s spines.
Surge bit Sonia, the electric sparks from her super form shocking the tenrec. She quickly let go with a yelp.
Sonia punched Surge, then quickly pinned her to the floor. “Stay down and listen.” She ordered. “I don’t want to hurt you.”
Surge spit on Sonia. “Like you care.”
Sonia dug her nails into Surge’s arms, letting her super form shock Surge with her fingernails. “I don’t care that much about you, Manic does.”
“You killed him!” Surge yelled.
Sonia gasped. “What?” She asked. “I didn’t kill him, I saved him from falling to his death. It was all over the news. How did you miss it?”
Surge thought about it. “That’s why he won’t let us watch tv or anything.”
“What?” Sonia asked. “You mean Starline?”
Surge nodded. “He told me Manic was dead.”
“I’ll video call him and prove it.” Sonia said. She kept Surge pinned as she pulled her phone out of her cargo skirt. She video called Manic, holding her phone for Surge to see it. “Please answer, bro.”
Manic answered the call. “Sis, what- Surge?”
Surge gasped softly. “Manic? You’re alive?”
“Yeah, Babe.” Manic replied. “Oh, man, I missed you. I’m glad you’re alive.”
“Get down here, Manic.” Surge said. “The lab.”
“On my way.” Manic said. He hung up.
“Are we good?” Surge asked. “They wouldn’t hurt Kit or the babies, right?”
“What?” Sonia asked.
“Sonia?” Shadow called.
“I’m here.” Sonia called.
Sonia let Surge up.
Shadow came in. “Power down, Starline is defeated.”
Sonia deactivated her medallion.
“I gave up.” Surge said, holding her hands up. “How are the babies or Kit?”
“Kit’s the little fennec guy?” Shadow asked.
“Yeah.” Surge replied.
“He’s fine.” Shadow said. “He’s standing guard over the babies in a tank. Won’t let anyone near them.”
“Babies?” Sonia asked.
“I’ll explain when Manic gets here.” Surge said, leading the way.
Sonia looked at Shadow. “Do you know?”
Shadow took Sonia’s hand and led her to the lab. He leaned closer to Sonia. “It’s hers and Manic’s twins.” He whispered.
Sonia furrowed her brow. “He didn’t mention he has kids.”
“He doesn’t know.” Shadow said.
Sonia looked at Shadow. “What’s wrong?”
Shadow stopped walking.
Sonia stopped as well. “Shadow?”
“I’m sorry; your mother was killed.” Shadow said.
Sonia nearly collapsed on the floor.
Shadow picked up Sonia and carried her as she sobbed on his shoulders. “I’m sorry, Sonia.”
