Sonic, Sonia, and Manic set their bags on the table in the lavish room.
“Nice place.” Manic said, looking around. “I hadn’t been in one like this in years.”
“It’s been a year for me.” Sonia replied. “Shadow only takes me to places like this on our anniversary, Christmas, and my birthday.”
Sonic sat on the bed. “I’m sorry, you two.” He said. “My old assistant and agent really dropped the ball. Sally’s running my social media accounts now. I know enough to be my own agent at this point.”
“It’s fine, bro.” Manic replied. He sat down on the couch.
Sonia sat down beside Manic.
“So how are things going?” Sonic asked.
“I run a salon and boutique.” Sonia replied. “It’s going well.”
Manic bit his lip. “Well, hopefully, things will get better now that Surge is famous.”
“What happened, bro?” Sonic asked.
“Well, music is still my side thing.” Manic replied. “It’s still not big enough for me to quit my day job. I do commission art occasionally. It took me forever, but I finally got a job as a locksmith several years ago. Some people thought I was actually a thief when the show was still on the air.”
Manic seethed. “People used to confuse me for Scourge too.”
Sonic shook his head. “You look nothing like him.”
“I’m a green hedgehog, close enough for them.” Manic snapped. He groaned. “I can’t stand that jerk.”
“Go take a shower and relax, Manic.” Sonia said.
Manic exhaled slowly. “Thanks, sis.” He replied. “I’m sorry, bro.”
Manic headed to the bathroom and shut the door behind him.
Sonia looked at the bathroom door and waited for Manic to turn on the shower.
As soon as the shower was on, Sonia turned to face Sonic.
“I didn’t think he had met Scourge.” Sonic said.
“We met him when we did the comic.” Sonia replied. She sat down on the bed. She rubbed her arms. “He was harassing me when you, Manic, and Knuckles weren’t around. Shadow caught him and threatened to kill him if he did it again.”
“Is that why you two started dating?” Sonic asked.
Sonia nodded. “Yeah.” She replied. “He had tried to get me and Manic parts, but it didn’t happen and I told him not to push it. I felt like he was on thin ice with everyone given how they kept doing the edgelord junk in his scripts and dubbing over his actual voice in spite of him saying he didn’t like that.”
Sonic shrugged. “They do the last bit with me all the time, but I know what you mean.”
Sonia brushed her bangs out of her eyes. “So Manic does know what happened on the set, but that’s not the only reason he’s angry.” She replied. “Surge briefly dated Scourge and it was awful. He stalked her and sent her to the hospital a few times. Manic was in the waiting room for an ear infection the last time she was there and that’s how they met.”
Sonic sighed.
Sonia shuddered. “Like… you know that whole creepy story with that freak and Bunnie?”
“He’s like that in real life, huh?” Sonic asked.
“Unfortunately, yes.” Sonia replied. “So if Surge has a panic attack or a shutdown during work, just be there and try to ask her what she needs. Manic tries to stay with her, but if he can’t, he’ll appreciate it if someone looks out for her.”
Sonic sat down on his bed. “I can’t believe all of this has happened and I didn’t know.”
“We’re just glad you didn’t cut contact with us on purpose.” Sonia said.
Sonic nodded.
Sonia got her phone out and pulled up a picture. “Here’s a picture of Maria.”
Sonic looked at it. “That’s your little girl?” He asked. “She’s definitely Shadow’s kid.”
Sonia laughed. “She sure is.”
“You got a picture of Manic’s kids?” Sonic asked.
Sonia pulled up another picture and showed it to Sonic. “The boy is Glitch and the girl is Cyber.”
“Aw, they’re almost grown and I haven’t met them yet.” Sonic said, frowning.
Manic came out of the bathroom in an old T-shirt, his spines were damp. “You told him?”
“Yeah, I did.” Sonia said.
“Good.” Manic replied. “There’s a jacuzzi tub in there, sis.”
“I’ll let you talk.” Sonia said, getting up. She pulled her bathrobe and nightgown out of her backpack and walked into the bathroom.
Manic sat on the bed. “I don’t want to talk about….”
“We don’t have to.” Sonic said. “Sis showed me your kids’ pictures. They’re adorable, Manic.”
Manic grinned. “Thanks.”
“So… if Surge has a panic attack… what should I do?” Sonic asked. “What exactly is a shutdown?”
“Okay, if she has a panic attack, stop acting and let her take a break.” Manic replied. “I’m gonna try to be there as much as I can. Y’see, if she has a panic attack, she usually calms down if I hold her. Kit or the kids will hug her, but she doesn’t like for anyone else to touch her. If she has a shut down, she’ll curl up and go pretty much mute. She can’t make herself verbally respond. She’ll nod or shake her head, but usually she’ll want you to give her a break and just sit with her.”
“This has to do with her ex?” Sonic asked. “What did he- Nevermind.”
“It did.” Manic replied. “You… you don’t want to know.”
“Did you report it?” Sonic asked.
“Took a while to get anyone to believe her.” Manic replied.
“I’m sorry.” Sonic said. He ran his hand through his spines. “Is making the comic gonna bother her?”
“We talked about it, she wants to do it.” Manic replied. “She’s made progress.”
“That’s good.” Sonic said.
Manic nodded. He picked up the menu. “Ooh, that’s expensive.”
“I’m gonna order us something from the little restaurant across the street.” Sonic said. “Not crazy about the food here, but their coffee panna cotta is amazing.”
Manic tossed the menu down. “Ah, why did ya tell me that?”
“Order three of them.” Sonic said. “But that’s all we’re gonna order from here.”
Manic picked up the menu. “Thanks, bro.”
“I brought our favorite movies.” Sonic said. “I figured we could watch a movie a night and do an activity a day while we’re here.”
“Sounds good.” Manic replied. “Not looking forward to watching Titanic again.”
“Me either, but there’s the Rifftrax version.” Sonic said. “To be fair, I got the tracks for Speed and Matrix to be fair.”
“Sweet.” Manic said, pulling his phone out.

Sonia, Sonic, and Manic gathered at the table for dinner.
“So can you try to put a good word in for us?” Sonia asked. “We don’t have to play as your siblings.”
“I really don’t want to play a thief again either.” Manic replied.
“I mention you two as much as I can.” Sonic replied. “I’ve heard rumors, but nothing so far.
All I can tell you to do is get involved with the fan stuff as long as it’s safe for work.”
Manic shook his head. “No, I’m already soured on that.”
“Some weirdo sent a creepy edit of me to Manic.” Sonia said.
“They’re already doing this with Surge.” Manic replied. “I’m having a hard time trying to shield my kids from it.”
“We pulled Maria from school.” Sonia said. “She does online school. Mindy babysits her.”
Sonic nodded. “I had to pull my kids out of school too.” He replied. “The whole shipping thing.”
“The less said, the better.” Manic said.
Sonia and Sonic agreed.
