Buffy's eyes fluttered open. She couldn't remember what had happened. Her surroundings were slowly coming into view. But even then, she wasn't sure where she was at the moment. All she knew was that there was pain. Severe pain throughout her entire body.
The white light was soft and oh so familiar. So were the familiar walls. She had been in this place a lot over the past couple months. And where was that? Oh yeah. The hospital. The place she had spent so much time because of Willow being hurt.
It must be her this time. After all, there was the pain. Severe pain. Pain like she had never felt before. She looked around and could see no one else in the room. She either had a private room or odds were that she was now in intensive care.
Great, just great. It seemed like her life and the lives of her friends seemed to be this one big soap opera. One that seemed to mean that something bigger and badder was just around the corner just waiting to bite them in the ass.
A thought suddenly flashed in her mind. The last thing she remembered was being with Spike. They were walking down the sidewalk towards his motorcycle. And Angel and Darla were there as well. But then, she could remember nothing. It was as if that part of her memory had been erased somehow.
If she had somehow been hurt, that could very well mean that Spike and the others had been hurt. What was going on. She desperately needed to find out. So, she pushed the nice little nurse's call button.
It took a minute for the male nurse to show up. His eyes were a little wide. She assumed it was because he hadn't expected her to be awake as of yet. Something really bad must have happened to her and the others. She just wished that she could remember what it was.
"How are you feeling Miss Summers?" The nurse quickly made his way to her bedside. "Is there pain? Do you wish for something to help with that?"
Buffy smiled weakly. Until that moment, she hadn't realized how weak she felt along with the pain. She had to clear her throat before she could speak. "There is pain. But I was wondering about my friends. I don't remember much, but I do know that I was with them before I got hurt."
"You don't remember what happened?" Buffy shook her head and got a very worried look on her face. "Well, your other three companions are still hospitalized. But they are healing nicely. You were the one that gave us the real scare."
Buffy wrinkled her brow. "What exactly did happen?"
The nurse looked a little uncomfortable. It was all over the hospital how it was her own father that had setup the shooting. "Well, there was a shooting. You and the others were caught in the crossfire. But everyone is going to be all right. Just a few minor scars."
That lead to the blond sinking back into her pillow. "I'll take those pain killers any time." She laughed as the nurses nearly tripped he left so fast to get them. So there had been a shooting. Now the only question was, who was behind it. And when she found out, it would be something that she might or might not be able to handle.
Spike limped a little as he walked the corridors of the hospital. He was supposed to be on his way home, but he wanted to see his girl before he left. After all, it was his fault yet again that she had gotten hurt. She deserved so much better then him, that was for sure.
That's when he ran into Angel. The two brothers eyed each other for a moment before embracing in a hug. It had been so long since the two had done that. Since Spike was three and Angel four. Since then, they had been at opposition. Mostly because their father saw to it that they were.
"Have you heard who's behind this?" Spike asked. He had just assumed that it was their father. But the police weren't saying anything to him. Just asking a lot of questions he didn't have the answers to.
"I overheard something." Angel pointed to a family lounge to which gratefully there was no one in. He shut the door behind them. Both brothers made their way to sit on the couch. "It seems that it wasn't exactly pop. In fact, it was someone else entirely that you aren't gonna like."
Spike sat at the edge of the couch, his bad leg extended a little. "And who would be worse then our asshole of a father."
Angel looked him directly in the eyes. "How about a one Hank Summers." The older brother leaned back. The pain was a little much for him when sitting upright. So much healing for them both to do.
"Bloody hell!" Spike tried to stand up, but his bad leg gave out and he sank back on the couch. "And let me guess, it was so that he could try and take over some of pop's territory." Angel nodded. "That's just bloody brilliant. Hasn't Buffy been through enough already. Now her pop is up to no good."
The dark haired man sighed. "I know. I came looking for you as soon as I heard. I don't think she knows yet. Mrs. Summers had said that she hadn't woke up yet. So I'm assuming that she's still in the dark."
"That's all her heart bloody needs." This time Spike managed to stand up. He slowly began to pace, limping as he did. "I should be the one to tell her. I don't want her hating her mother for telling her such news."
"Spike, it's best if it comes from her mom." Angel stood up and stood in front of his little brother. "But you should be there. She's gonna need all the support she can get."
"What is it with bloody fathers?" Spike stopped pacing and glared at nothing in particular. "First Tara's dad is the asshole from hell and goes so far as to poison her. Willow's dad won't accept that she loves differently. Xander's dad has never been there for him. Faith has told me horror stories. And our own pop leaves something to be desired."
Angel shrugged. "It would be nice if they could be like Giles. I find it funny. The one good role model in the bunch and he's never had kids."
Spike smirked at this. It was true. The one really good man around was Giles. And he was yet to have any kids. It was just so damn full of ironies. But then again, so was life.
Tara was now the one in a wheelchair as she watched her everything. The doctors were going to release her in about a week. She would have to come back once a week to have her kidney checked on. So far their fear of permanent damage wasn't coming true. But they wanted to make sure.
And it didn't bother her much because Willow was to be released in another two weeks. So they could actually be home together at the same time soon. Right now, her redhead was doing the first of what was to be many physical therapy sessions.
It wasn't going the greatest. Beads of sweat were all over her forehead. Her arm strength just wasn't there to help support her body as she tried to walk the bars. Or try to make her legs how to remember how to walk again.
But that wasn't about to stop her girl. That was one of the things that she loved so much about her. The fact that she never seemed to give up. That there was that constant determination about her. She had to have it. She had been through so much already in her young life. They both had.
Finally, the session was over. It hadn't been as bad as either had thought it was going to be. It was breaking of the hospital rules for Tara to be there. But Giles had come through as usual and persuaded the physical therapist that there would be no harm in letting her stay. That in fact it would give her some motivation, not that she needed any.
The two girls wheeled themselves out onto the observation deck. It had been donated years ago by some member of high society. There was even a plaque to that effect. But they didn't care about that. They were just grateful that it gave them a place to be alone. Again, against the rules.
It was already late afternoon when the two had wheeled themselves out there. The air was a little crisp as winter was coming upon them. But they didn't mind. It was fresh air and that's what they needed after what seemed like an eternity of nothing but hospital smells.
The two were close to the edge of the observation deck. From there, you could see most of the small town of Sunnydale. It was a pretty beautiful sight. Along with the just starting of the twinkling of the early evenings stars.
Hands intertwined as they sat there in silence. It seemed that they had a lot to say and nothing at the same time. Just how they were now. They knew that a lifetime was ahead of them now. Thanks to one Uncle Giles.
Tara leaned in and gave her girl a gentle kiss. This brought an instant smile to her face. "Just think, soon we'll be back at home and back at school and I can do that whenever I want to."
The redhead squeezed her hand tightly. "You won't be the only one that will be taking full advantage of that." She sighed heavily. "You know, I can't help but think that this is turning out to be one helluva freshman year."
The blond sighed as well. "It started off not so good. Well, the meeting you was so wonderful. But everything else."
Willow nodded. "I know. I think that the only thing in this life that is keeping me sane is the fact that I know that no matter what, you will be there for me."
"That's for sure." Tara again leaned in for a kiss. This one turned a little more passionate. She leaned back, both teens a little breathless at that point. "I better stop doing that. We're gonna get into trouble if I don't."
Willow smiled. "I like that kind of trouble." She sighed as the silence fell over them yet again. That was still the best thing about the two of them. They could be together and not say anything or say everything at once.
More stars began popping out of the quickly darkening sky. The two young lovers looked at the sky. It was great to try and pick out the different shapes that were there. Giving them their own made up names instead of the real one. Suddenly, there was a shooting star.
Willow got all excited. "A shooting star! That means we each get to make a wish. I know what mine is."
Tara squeezed her hand. "I think that mine already came true. I got you. So I don't know what else that I could possibly wish for."
That made the redhead blush a little. "Hey, my wish is for us to be together also came true. But there are a couple others that I wouldn't mind seeing come true."
"Whatever your heart desires, you will get." Tara smiled really big. "I know because I plan on making all of your dreams and wishes come true."
Again, silence washed over the two. It was just fitting. The two of them finding each other. It was like the two of them had come into the other's life at the exact moment that they were supposed to. And they were meant to stay forever and for always.
And that's what made the two of them even more perfect. They knew what they wanted and they knew how to get it. Nothing could stand in the way of the two of them. No matter what obstacles were in the way, they would work together always to overcome them and be as one.
So, two young lovers held hands as the darkness of the night washed over them. A full moon lit up the two of them. It was like there was a spotlight on them. Saying that this is how two people in love should be. And that they should never be apart.
