So I stand in the sun...

and I breathed with my lungs

trying to spare me the weight of the truth...

Bleary aqua eyes cracked open when the sun shining down upon them became too unbareable to feign sleep any longer. Hadn't it been dark when he had fell asleep on the island? It just occurred to Riku that he should be remembering something very important right about now. He watched as a blue jay flew through the maple tree, and then it hit him.

As fast as his reflexes would allow him to move, Riku sprung from his cushioned spot on the forest floor. There were no blue jays in Destiny Islands, and for that matter there was no fucking forest! Riku backed himself against a tree in fear, and tried his hardest to get a grasp on the situation. What had happened last night? He shut his eyes and let the flashes of memory fill his head, and suddenly feeling very sick, ran over to the nearest greenery and emptied his stomach.

He had left the world, he had traveled through the darkness and left. No, but that wasn't all that happened, Destiny Islands was devoured. Everyone was gone. Were they dead, or just sucked into darkness? Now that he thought about it, was there really a difference? And if that were true then why wasn't he gone with the rest of them? What had he done different that he was spared? He wasn't special, he wasn't different, why did the darkness choose him?

Flashes of tentacles encircling and pulling him into the abyss came back to him, and he tried to shake off the cold feeling that was still running through his body. But it hadn't just been him that was staring into the abyss, Sora was there too. He had reached out to Sora, beckoned him to join him, and once again the brunette had refused. The pale haired boy shook his head to clear it. No, that wasn't right. Sora had reached out for his hand, but the darkness had held him back. It hadn't wanted Sora, no apparently only he was worthy of such misery.

Thinking that now would be a good time to look around, Riku brought himself out of his hunched position and tried to steady himself on his feet. An action that was surprisingly hard to do. Two feet in he lost his footing, and fell back to the ground. Riku sucked in a breath during impact, and deciding that his muscles definitely weren't ready for movement, he decided to study this new world from the comfort of the forest floor.

Rolling over onto his back, Riku took a look at his surroundings while being sprawled out on the moss covered ground. And you know what, surprisingly moss makes a good pillow. Looking up he couldn't believe that he had been woken up by sunlight. There were so many trees that it seemed to encase the sky. Not only that, but everywhere he looked there were animals coming up to investigate him.

Not really wanting to be anythings food, Riku sprung up from his place on the ground and pulled out his wooden sword him and Sora used to practice. It was only after he had done this that he realized how ridiculous this really was. This was stupid for two reasons. The first being that a wooden sword would do little to no damage against anything, and the second more important reason was that the things that were investigating him happened to be chipmunks and bunnies.

Feeling mildly foolish for his over reaction, Riku bent down and attempted to pet the cute little bunny. Now yes that sounded incredibly gay, but really they were very cute. One was a floppy eared white rabbit, and the other one looked like the rabbit from the book he had once read. Now besides the fact that the rabbit had turned out to be a vampire, it was still cute.

Riku had expected the would be vampire bunny to bite him, or hell at least run away, but when he reached down the rabbit bent closer and let him scratch it behind the ears. Now of course contrary to some beliefs, Riku was no idiot. He knew there was only one possible explanation for such a response. It was obvious that either the rabbit was just plain retarded, which he highly doubted, or it had had human contact previous to their encounter. Now if he was a betting man, which he liked to think he was, he would put all of his money on the latter, seeing as how all the other animals were equally as friendly, if not more so, than his cute little vampire rabbit.

So that meant that he was either on a planet consisting completely of animals that just walked around talking, laughing, and having an over all great existence, or there were people close by in this forest. Now he didn't even want to think about what he was going to do if the situation was his first option, so he opted for the second one. You know opted is a bad word, more like prayed that that was the case. He didn't even want to think about the possibility of being trapped for an eternity on a world with nothing but cute little homicidal bunnies.

After stopping to pick up his bunny rabbit that he had named Bunnicula, Riku started down what looked like could be a trail of some sort, though a trail by a human he couldn't be so sure. He was after all still in the mind set that this world might be run completely by vampiric animals. Pushing those thoughts to the side for the moment, he continued his trek through the forest.

It was strange how much you could miss the island life when you get thrown into a vegetative haven with no clue how you got there, or if you'll ever even get off. Though he had to admit it was mildly exhilarating, and hey it was cheaper than a movie, so at least he had that going for him.

As him and Bunnicula continued to walk through the seemingly abandoned forest, Riku once more tried to sort through which memories were his, and which ones were simply fragmented parts of a dream he didn't understand. Whenever he closed his eyes all he saw was darkness, and you know normally he wouldn't think a thing of it, because really who doesn't see darkness when their eyes are closed? But this, this was a different kind of dark. This was a kind that makes your heart feel hollow, and your skin start to pale. This is the kind that you can both see and feel, hell if you tried hard enough you could even taste it. It was the kind that, if allowed, would swallow you up, and this is what scared Riku most...not that he was on a different planet, not that his family and friends were gone, hell not even that he was surrounded by furry creatures that were out for his blood, what scared him the most was the fact that little by little he could feel the darkness start to consume him, and then, he really would be all alone.

To his pleasure, the farther he walked along the path, the thinner the trees seemed to get. Oh and then there was the other thing, now he couldn't be sure, but Riku was pretty sure he smelled the scent of burning wood. So either he was about to burn to death or there was a house near-by. Damn it is amazing how many sucky choices there are when you wake up not knowing what the hell's going on.

Riku actually gave a whoop of joy when through the clearing of trees a small cabin could be seen. As fast as his legs could carry him, Riku took off in a dead sprint towards the small house, ignoring the little squeaks of protest his newly found rabbit was giving him. The little house couldn't be more than one or two rooms, and even though there was smoke spouting up from the chimney, the house seemed oddly desolate.

Upon reaching the door, he now had to decide whether or not to knock or not. Now his parents raised him well, well they did when they were around anyways, and they always told him to knock before barging into somebody's house. But really were niceties a neccesity at this point?

Not really giving a damn anymore, Riku rammed up against the front door with probably more force than was necessary, and barged into the small cabin. He had always considered himself to be a brave specimen, but he couldn't help but gasp at the sight that met his eyes. The whole room seemed to be covered in dust and cobwebs, and the fire that he smelled earlier seemed to be about to burn out completely, but don't get him wrong, this isn't what shocked him. The thing that shocked him was the three woman that lying still at random places around the cabin.

Making sure to keep Bunnicula in one hand, Riku rushed to the first one. He placed two fingers at the pulse on her neck and thankfully felt a slight drumming under his fingers. So they weren't dead, what were they then? Aqua eyes watched the soft rise and fall of her chest. Were they just asleep, and if so why weren't they waking up? Judging by the looks of the place they had been asleep for a good couple days, if not more.

After a few long minutes of doing nothing but furiously shaking the woman, Riku concluded that they were definitely not going to wake up any time soon. With a sigh Riku slumped up against the small kitchen table, and noticed absentmindly that there seemed to be a dress hanging on the wall that looked like it had collided with the colors pink and blue. Was that what people here wore? If so than he'd rather be on Destiny Islands for the rest of his days. It just goes to show you that the world hates him. Of all the places in the universe that he could have ended up, he had to be dropped on a planet where every single person was asleep. Though, to be fair, he didn't know that for sure. Maybe he would get lucky and only half of the population would be sleeping.

"Well Bunnicula, it looks like we are fucked." He looked down at his black and white rabbit, and once again sighed. "Though I guess you're not...you've lived here all your life after all. I guess I'm the only one that's fucked." Big brown eyes just stared back up at him, and he decided that he'd already hit rock bottom so he might as well continue. "But you've lived here, so maybe not all that bad. Just think we can put these lumps of women at the table and have a tea party...they're more real looking than dolls anyways." Well that just confirmed that he's officially lost it. He was sitting alone in a cabin, talking to a bunny, and wanting to have a tea party with his incapacitated companions.

At what sounded remarkably like a chuckle, Riku jerked to attention. Strangely enough his first instinct was to look towards the ceilings, and sure enough waiting in the rafters happened to be the chuckler. Riku was only vaguely aware that his jaw was dangling on the ground. Anyone would be shocked if they saw someone that looked, well that looked, like you...only remarkably hotter.

The man had to be in his late twenties, but he didn't look a day over 19. His hair was the same liquid silver color as Riku's, but was grown down to his waist and nicely maintained. His eyes were also close to his color, but held more of a green tint and seemed to glow. The man, who Riku had nicknamed dopleganger, was decked out in complete leather. Tight black leather pants, leather boots, and a long leather trench coat made his pale features more deeply stand out, as did the black angel wing sprouting from his back. But the thing that caught Riku's immediate attention wasn't what he looked like, although he definitely was something to look at, the thing that caught the boy's eye was the gigantic katana in his hand. For fucks sake the thing had to be six feet long!

"I hope I'm not interrupting anything." Riku's eyes glazed over as the man's velvety smooth voice distracted him from the way he seemed to disappear from the rafters, and reappear right in front of his feet. The sad part was that, at the moment, Riku was so memorized that he didn't even wonder how he had pulled it off.

"No...not...interrupting..." Riku tilted his head to look up at the man, who had to be at least 6'2. When he saw the small smirk that was on his face, Riku's fuzziness cleared up. The strange part was that he's felt this way before, but not with this man, and yet he couldn't help but think that they seemed familiar. The harder Riku tried to concentrate on where he had felt this feeling, the more his memory seemed to once again evade him. Seeing that the only person that could possibly help him was standing not two feet in front of him, Riku decided to break the kinda silence. "Who are you?"

Obviously not sensing a threat, the pale haired man sheathed his weapon. "Funny...I was about to ask you the same thing." A gloved hand stretched out, and not knowing what else to do, Riku reached out his own and grabbed it. In one swift motion he was pulled off the floor.

"Me? Why would you want to know who I was?" Silver hair tilted to the side, and not knowing what he did wrong, Riku clutched tighter to Bunnicula.

The man walked a little closer, making Riku take an involuntary step back. He didn't know why, but he didn't trust this man at all. "Well if you didn't notice everyone else in this world is fast asleep, and yet here you are awake...seems a little strange wouldn't you say?"

Riku was about to spill his guts to the stranger on where he came from, but one thing stopped him. That was of course the fact that one piece didn't seem to fit the puzzle. "You're not asleep either!" As soon as the statement left his lips, Riku wished he didn't say it.

A creepy smile covered the man's face, and, due to instincts alone, Riku took another step back. "So I'm not...how strange." The man's glowing eyes glittered with malice, and suddenly, as things began to fit, Riku felt very much afraid.

"You did this...didn't you." It wasn't a question, Riku already knew by the way the man was looking at him what the answer was.

"No." Oh. Didn't see that one coming. "I just came to clean up her mess." Riku's eyes widened a little, before his suspicious nature kicked in, and they once again narrowed.

"What do you mean clean up her mess? Are you going to wake these people up?" Insane laughter filled the air, and Riku had a sneaky suspicion that if that was the million dollar question, then he would have gotten it wrong.

"Not quite." He sobered up from his laughter before continuing. "I'm more merciful than that." Riku swallowed the lump in his throat. He had a bad feeling about all of this, and on occasion his feelings happened to be right.

"What are you talking about?" The man seemed to scoff at his stupidity, and then with a sigh continued on with his explanation.

"Tell me little one, why would I wake them, only to have to kill them a few minutes later?" He took a step forward and gesticulated with his hand. "Do you not think it would be more merciful to have them die peacefully in their sleep? Would you rather I woke them up to witness their death? Do you want them to have to feel their skin burning off their bones as this world is blinked out?"

Riku's lip curled up in disgust, and he was only vaguely aware that his body was shaking. "You're insane!"

"Says the person who talks to their pet rabbit." He couldn't help it, he reddened a little in embarrassment. If he had known that this psychopath was watching, he would never have even thought of talking to Bunnicula in the first place. But really that's not the point. "So I answered your question, now tell me, how it is that you're immune to the curse."

Riku clutched Bunnicula and backed himself up against the wall. Intense green eyes seemed to be trying to read his soul, and by this point he really didn't know what the harm in telling the truth was. After all this crazy person was probably about to slit his throat anyways. "I'm not." A silver eyebrow raised in question. "I'm from another world, I was sucked in by the darkness."

The man smiled, before moving forward. "Ah." A pink tongue poked out from between his thin lips, and he seemed to be trying his hardest not to laugh. "Well then outlander, it was a pleasure."

Riku was about to ask what? but he didn't get a chance to. The hella long sword that he had seen earlier was pushed out of its sheath, and in a split second decision, Riku raised his wooden sword to block the attack. The toy sword was cut in half, but did it's job in stopping the attack from cutting him in half. The man didn't seem happy, and raised the sword up to try again.

As the sword was raised, Riku knew there was nothing he could do. He stood there waiting for death, when something very strange happened. His body started to tingle all over, and as the blade came down to cut him in half, a ball of dark energy filled his hand, and he used it to block the attack.

For the most part, the man seemed shocked, but he couldn't have been half as shocked as Riku was. The strange part was that he didn't even remember raising his hand. The energy dissapeared, but the tingling feeling remained. Riku tried to move, when of it's own accord, his mouth twisted into a sinister smile.

"So nice to see you again Sephiroth." In his head Riku was hyperventilating, but his body didn't seem to respond. In fact his body started to laugh at the suspicious look on the man's face.

"Who are you?" Sephiroth's eyes were narrowed, and his hand was still fingering his blade. Riku was desperately trying to regain control of his body, but it seemed as if now he was just a spectator watching from the inside out.

Riku walked confidently forward, and after setting Bunnicula on the table, walked in a circle around Sephiroth. Noticing how the man's eyes seemed to follow him the whole way. "My Sephiroth it seems you've grown slow as the years have passed, and I didn't think you would ever forget me."

"Stop speaking nonsense Outlander...I don't understand what you're talking about." Riku scoffed, and stopped walking when he was directly in front of the older man.

"I'm not surprised." He began to spin his hand in the empty space between them. "After all one who knows nothing, can understand nothing." Sephiroth's eyes once again narrowed, but then he seemed to be considering what Riku had said. The silver haired man's eyes widened, and then a smile fell on his face.

"Ansem?" Riku smiled in confirmation, and then leaned against the kitchen table.

"In a matter of speaking." His eyes fell to the floor for a second, but snapped up a second later. "It's been a long time cousin." On the inside Riku was screaming. He could see the outline of Ansem, and the fact that this person was his cousin made the dizzy feeling make sense. His memories came rushing back in a flash, and he suddenly knew everything that was going on. Ansem was controlling his body again, just like he had done with Sora yesterday...was it yesterday? It seemed almost a lifetime ago.

Sephiroth once again smiled. "I thought you were dead." Dead? Did that mean that Ansem was a ghost. Even though this really wasn't the appropriate time, Riku couldn't help but feel mildly disgusted that he had had sex with an apparition.

"Well you're half right." Riku pushed off the table and went to stand by the one window in the small house. The sun was just starting to go down, and Riku could see the same darkness that had swallowed Destiny Islands drifting in on the horizon. This world was going to have the same fate as his, and there wasn't a thing he could do about it. He couldn't wiggle his big toe, let alone save an entire planet. "My body did die, or rather was devoured by the darkness...and yet." Ansem twirled around so that he was once facing Sephiroth. "Here I am with a new one."

The same insane laughter that Riku heard earlier filled the air. "Well you always were a resilant bastard, but I have to admit I'm impressed." Ansem did a mock bow, before returning Sephiroth's smirk.

"I'm honored to have your praise...not many people get that if I remember correctly." Sephiroth just scoffed at that.

"Yes, well we all have our weak moments." Sephiroth placed a hand underneath his chin in contemplation. "Hmm...you know I think I remember you being taller." Ansem scowled slightly at that.

"Touche. But you know it could be worst...Riku's not actually that bad of company, and he's a great fuck." Sephiroth's eyes raised.

"You actually slept with the kid?" Ansem's head tilted to the side.

"Had to...mind body and spirit all have to be in sync for the transfer to work." Sephiroth nodded, but still didn't look convinced. "So you're living inside of him?"

Ansem's face darkened considerably. "Unfortunately...for now." His face lightened as a thought suddenly occurred to him. "Though as soon as Riku's completely broken it will be the other way around." In his mind Riku snarled. How could he? How could he do something like that to him? He wouldn't let it happen! He would be damned before he let Ansem rule his body. He didn't know how, but he would fight this!

"Riku..." Sephiroth said his name, letting the sylabols slip off his tongue. "So that's his name...he wouldn't tell me."

"You know it might have had something to do with the fact that you tried to kill him." Sephiroth at first just nodded, but then he smiled and squeezed Ansem's cheek.

"Yeah...but that was before I knew he had such interesting company inside of him." If Riku ever got out of this he was going to personally make it a matter to kill both Ansem, and his insane cousin.

"Indeed. But pleasantries aside...there is a favor I have to ask of you." Without really saying anything, Sephiroth motioned for him to continue. "It takes a lot of energy to interfere with Riku's body like this, and I can't afford to do it every time he gets himself into trouble...and trust me that's a lot." Riku had the grace to be offended at that statement, but it's not like he could say anything about it.

Sephiroth seemed to get what Ansem was implying, and he scoffed at the very notion. "I'm not a babysitter Ansem." Ansem scowled, but continued anyways.

"I'm not asking you to babysit Seph...all I'm asking is that you try to keep him out of the trouble he seems to inflict upon himself...or if you can't, find someone who can."

"What you're asking is a lot Ansem." Sephiroth bit out. "I already have the hassle of taking the princess from this world to that witch..." Sephiroth paused. "I'm assuming you know all about that." With a nod from Ansem, Sephiroth continued. "My point is I can't do it."

A growl erupted from Ansem's throat, obviously his patience had all but worn out. "Sephiroth I cannot stay in control much longer...do this for me and I assure you you'll get something in return." Sephiroth seemed to be considering this for a moment, and with a coy smile stuck his hand out. Smiling, Ansem quickly took it.

Dark energy rushed through Riku's body, and even though he couldn't control it, he could still feel what was happening. Out of his hand, the same blue bottle that Ansem had used earlier on him, appeared. "Good doing business with you Seph." The silver haired man scowled at the nickname, but said nothing. "Now he won't remember any of this, so you're going to have to take care of him without mentioning me or my plans." The scowl darkened. "Bottoms up." Ansem raised the bottle to his lips, but stopped for a second. "Oh and cousin." Sephiroth looked up from where he was burning holes in the floor. Ansem met his glare with a smile "Try not to act too insane alright?" Sephiroth glared at Ansem as he took a swig of the liquid.

Suddenly being able to control his body again, Riku screamed as loud as he could from the pain. He had felt the freezing sensation before, but this time it seemed more intense. It felt like his whole body was melting, and then freezing again from the inside out. Riku saw that Sephiroth was staring on at his pain disinterestingly. Riku collapsed onto his knees, and he could feel his head fuzzing over, and knew that at any time he would loose consciousness. Right before he passes out, he managed to get out three words. "Don't forget Bunnicula..." Then, as had happened so many times when dealing with Ansem, Riku's entire world went black.
