Chapter 4
You would think that since Helga and Tim were together now that it would seem akward, but the thing was, it totally wasn't. So now, as we were heading out to Tim's car, his arm around Helga, who was crying, (tears of joy, or sadness I wasn't sure which) It was all sort of familiar, as if this had somehow been meant to be.
"It's ok Helga, we will work this all out somehow." Tim was now saying, as we were getting into the car.
"I just don't know what to do," She said shaking her head. "I mean if I were to have an abortion, I would not be able to live with myself. I just wouldn't." This I knew was true. Helga thought abortions were wrong. I mean the baby couldn't speak for it's self.
"Helga, are you saying your going to keep it?" I asked.
"Ya. I have no choice." We shut our doors, Tim in the driver's seat, Helga in the passenger's seat, and me in the back leaning in so we could all talk.
"Helga, what about your mom?" I asked.
"My mom, oh she is going to kick me out so that is why I'm going to have to get a loan from the bank, and rent something small I guess." She replied, obviously frustrated.
"No your not Helga Jane." Said Tim in an oddly father-like tone.
"Ok, Dr. Dad, what is she going to do?" I said, Helga and I both chuckling.
"Live with me." He said this so casually as if he was stating what he had for dinner.
"What?" Helga and I said at the same time.
"Helga, would you? I mean, you can't afford to get an apartment. We all know that. Your mom will kick you out, and you need somewhere to go. I love you. I can't see you struggle like this. Come live with me and we can do this. We can raise the baby. Me and You. I'll be the father." I had to say, I had no idea that Tim was this forward and affectionate. If Helga hadn't of broken things off with Andy on the way to the doctor's then he could have never said that last thing. We were in the car on the way to the doctor's office when Helga said that she could no longer speak to Andy. So she called him on her cell. She said that he made her sick, and that he was an unfit father. He had just said that he was sorry and that he hadn't wanted to be a father. What a jerk.
"Tim, do you mean this?" she asked taking his hand and smiling.
"With all my heart."
"Awwwwwwwwww!" I said. I couldn't help it. It's a non-resisting move!
Helga laughed looking at me and Tim just gave me a glare that said 'what in god's name is wrong with you?'
"Sorry." I said shrinking back.
"Ok then, It's settled. Your going to come live with me, and we will raise the baby." He said.
"Me too," I said. "I'm not going anywhere. I'll be right here with you. We can do this."
"Thanks." She said looking at me in that same way she did that day in sixth grade at that convenient store.

The next morning, after a long night of Tim dropping me off and then later calling my cell at two in the morning telling me how the move out move in thing went (which was ok), I got up and took a shower. As the hot water poured down on me, I thought about what Tim had told me. I had woken up to the ringing of my cell phone, not to surprised.
"Hey Sam, we got her stuff here and she is all settled in." Tim had said sounding tired.
"That's good, what happened?"
"Well, she went in and told her mom that she was moving out because she was pregnant, and that she was moving in with me. Her mom didn't yell or anything but just told her to watch herself and call sometime. She seemed sad that she was leaving."
"Well at least she wasn't furious." I said feeling a bit relieved.
"Ya, She is going to visit Abby like every week sometime, and still go over there."
"I'm sure that this is weird for Abby."
"Ya, well she is already asleep so I'm going to do the same."
"Me too, are you guys both coming to school tomorrow?"
"No, I think we are just going to both get all her stuff here and I need to get her on her feet for the last three days of school."
"Ok, I understand that. I'm going to come over there after school Ok?"
"Sounds good. Night."
"Night."
I had fallen asleep after hanging up. I stepped out of the shower and got dressed, choosing a pair of cargo army-green Capri pants, White flip-flops and a plain white T-shirt. After scrunching my hair, I put on eyeliner, mascara, and lip gloss.
Tessie was waiting at the table, reading some romance novel and drinking a glass of apple juice.
"I'm going to school, and after I'm going over to Tim's for a while."
"Ok, be home by seven." She said not looking up from her book.
"Bye." I said, putting on a white zip-up, hoodie, my book bag and purse, then walking out the door.
I stepped outside. I walked to the corner. I called a taxi. It was the same woman that somehow knew about my mother...and frankly, she gave me the creeps.
"Hello, Ummm, just seatle please." I said.
"Ok, and if your wondering how I knew about your mom, we were old college buddies." She said. College, she had loved college.
"How did you know I was her daughter?" I asked.
"Oh, there is no question you look just like her," she said with a smile. "I'm Jane." Jane, of course. Mom had talked about her a lot, she was her room mate in college, and her best friend.
"Oh, ya she use to talk about you all the time. Is is Jane........Sullivan?"
"That's me." She said.
I checked my cell phone.

I got to Just seatle, and when I got out she said I didn't have to pay. That was nice. I basiclly got all my money from Tessie, thirty dollars a week. She was loaded. I would earn my own money, except I don't have a job. Last summer before Junior year, Helga, Tim and I had all set out to get jobs. I never got accepted anywhere, but Tim and Helga both got jobs. Helga worked at a supermarket where we got groceries all the time, except she got fired after four months. The Boss's boss had fired her because their was an accusation against 'bribing'. She didn't bribe her boss. Her boss had raped her in a janitor's closet, (eww) and got her fired because he said she bribed him in order to get more money. Liar! He was such a liar, but no one believed us. We don't get groceries there anymore. Just sayin'.
Tim got a job as a machaninc down at some automotive repair shop. He still works there.
I walked up to the Just Seatle window, but it said they were closed. That was weird, Polly would have e-mailed me. I just walked a few blocks to a bakery called 'corner bakery'. I had never been there before. And how ironic, the bakery was on the corner. How original.
I walked in. It smelled good inside. There were about four middle aged looking men in there eating donuts, and reading the paper. A few woman in buisness suits were drinking coffee. And there was a blonde woman in jogging cloths with a little girl who looked about five. I walked up to the counter and looked at the menu. Poppy-seed muffin. Yum.
Nobody was at the counter, so I looked for a bell. There was no bell. Finally after a few minutes, some guy walked up to the counter wearing a green apron.
This guy was hot.
like hot.
"Can I help you?" he asked.
"ummmm ya, I want a poppy-seed muffin and a carton of milk."
"Coming right up." He said with a smile. He put the muffin and milk up on the counter.
"Do you want to take up our moo policy?" he said grinning.
"Moo policy?" I said slightly smiling.
"Ya, with any purchase if you get milk with it, then you get it for free, if you moo."
"Moo? I think I'll pass." I said looking in my purse for my wallet. Just my luck. No wallet.
"Oh, crap." I said.
"What?"
"My wallet isn't in here." I said, realizing just then that I set it on my dresser the night before.
"Well, then I guess you only have one choice." He said with a chuckle.
"No, No, No, please god no." I said. This wasn't happening.
"You'll have to." He said grinning from ear to ear.
"fine. Moo." I said with no enthusiasm whatsoever.
"No way that doesn't count, you've got to get into it! MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!" he said practicly yelling and dipping his head with the moo. This caused me to laugh. One of the buisness suit ladys looked up.
"Mooooo!" I said with a bit more enthusiasm.
"NO, MOOOOOOOOO!!!!!" he yelled again dipping his head.
"MOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!" I said laughing and dipping my head as well.
"There you go." He said. We were both laughing. I looked around. Some of the men were giving us strange looks and the little girl was giggling and mooing herself.
He handed me the muffin and milk.
"I'm Samantha Hart." I said getting ready to leave.
"I'm Ryan Mills," He said. "Do you go to Freeman High?" he asked.
"Ya, do you, I havn't seen you." I said.
"Well, today is going to be my first day, even though there is only four days left, I work early morning shift and get off in about five minutes." He said.
"Oh, then I guess I'll see you at school." I said starting for the door.
"Wait, ummmm you want to go with me?" he asked taking off his apron.
"Uhh, sure." I said.
"Cool, I'll just be a sec." I waited for him to hang up his apron and tell somebody named Tyler that he was leaving. We walked to where I thought was going to be a parking garage, just talking about ourselves, intrests and stuff. However he didn't take me to a parking garage, he took my to a subway station.
We got down the stairs, and he bought two tokens.
"Ready?" he asked when the subway got there. I hadn't said a word since we started down the stairs.
"Well, see I ummm, forgot that I.....ummmmm......well......I don't do subways very well." I said my heart pumping in my chest.
"It's ok; I'm good at conquering fears." He said and he grabbed my hand and dragged me on the subway. I was about to protest, but the subway started, and I clung to a pole right next to the one he was holding on to. We started to go. I shut my eyes. Just breath.
I opened my eyes expecting to burst into tears. I had never been on a subway since that day. The day my mother died.
But I didn't burst into tears, when I opened my eyes, I saw him smiling at me. I looked out the windows, and saw the outside world rushing by me, and I smiled. I was happy, for the first time in a long time, I was happy.
